Doctor Who 7x5 The Angels Take Manhattan

Ah, good. Here's another episode where I'm all cheerful to begin with. Ooh, what a fun premise! The Angels! It's so fun and exciting! The visuals are lovely! There's some funny moments, too! Wow, I'm having a great time watching this one!!

😀

☹️

😭

Simply devastated. And yes, I went through tissues when editing, too.

Youtube edit: https://youtu.be/ZqZZcsk7GBM

(p.s. there is a chance that I might not be around for a bit, due to possible extreme weather conditions. If any uploads are missed, I will make it up as soon as I am able. I have been working to get next week's Buffy and Angel edited, but at this stage have not edited Doctor Who 7x6. Thank you for your understanding!)

That makes two of us!

ColonelPants

subbed to the patreon purely for this episode since i saw you were on the beginning of s7 on youtube! amy and rory were my first companions i saw, and they really have remained quite up there on my ranking. the four of them had such wonderful chemistry.

Prepare for some tears 😭

ClaryTehSage

In the UK by this point it was functionally impossible for major events like cast changes to occur unspoiled, so they decided to lean into it and instead let people luxuriate in the inevitable dread of knowing what was coming.

Danel4d

It was such an exciting, fun, unique, clever episode..... Why did they have to ruin it 😭😭 I have read other comments that say a lot of things get spoiled before it goes to air! That would really make me upset ☹️

Juliette Gaming

I haven't seen it! I'm excited now! Depending on weather conditions, I'll hopefully be able to watch it next week. I don't share all of the minisode reactions, but this one really seems like I'd love it and want to share it here 💜

In the 11th Hour, after Amelia falls asleep outside and the camera pans across the dark interior of the house to the clock, a shadowy figure darts across frame. At the time everyone just assumed this was meant to be Prisoner Zero, but its humanoid. Moffat hinted there was something extra in that episode everyone had missed, and there was, it was the Doctor all the time going back for Amelia at the end of Amy's time on the TARDIS. And its right there, in 11 and Amy's very first episode.

Jason

seconding this. P.S. is phenomenal

Dingus Ex Machina

At the beginning of the episode you were so happy I wanted to reach into the screen and be like 'No don't watch the episode it'll destroy you!' lol I'm jealous of reactors who don't see this coming, when the episode aired in the UK they told us it was end of Amy and Rory...yeah great, thanks! Still doesn't mean rewatching this doesn't bring back all the trauma lol

Martin

Juliette, if you haven't already seen this, you need to watch this minisode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWU6XL9xI4k It provides a little more closure for Amy and Rory. It is mostly narrated script since they never filmed it, but it is narrated by Rory. I've watched this a few times over the years. At first I really wished they had filmed it. But now, my mind has changed, and I actually think this is better, i.e. it has even more impact. Then, there is this final sort of minisode done by Arthur Darvill (written by Neil Gaiman) that was done during the COVID lockdown enttitled "Rory's Story": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVqW4XjZwC8

Stay safe, hope the weather doesn't last long but take your time and do whatever you need to do.

So... here we are then. Having seen these seasons of Doctor Who more than a few times, I knew going in that there were certain moments that were going to break you, because they broke the rest of us too. Great stuff as always Jules. <3

The Rising Ape

Thank you for understanding! It's so hard as I don't want to let anyone down. It's not too bad yet so my priority today is to edit the next Doctor Who episode (working on it now!) just in case I have no electricity for some time ☹️

Juliette Gaming

You're the second one to mention that today, I'll see if I can watch/react to it next week 💜

Juliette Gaming

Thank you, fingers crossed all will be fine!

Juliette Gaming

This is too scary for me 🤣🤣 my goodness!!! Maybe it is true 👀

Juliette Gaming

RIGHT!! Right!! Thank you, James!

Juliette Gaming

So the reason the Doctor can go back and put little Amelia to bed again is because the previous time he did it was in the universe before it was reset by the second big bang

James

You know why people don't think the Statue of Liberty moves? No one has ever seen it moved because there is always someone looking at it.

James Hawkins

Stay safe.

Keef Baker

Great reaction! Just watching the clips still makes me tear up! Highly recommend checking out a short video called “PS”. It’s very sweet and gives a little more info about what happened afterwards.

Trey Moore

Extreme weather conditions? I hope you are safe. Take all the time you need

Spikle

Yes, they did live together happily, they weren't send back into the Winter Quay "farm", because Rory destroyed it with his paradox. Btw, have you already watched the short minisodes "P.S."? If not, you should, here's a YouTube link to it: watch this short minisode: https://youtu.be/XWU6XL9xI4k

Oliver

Yeah, I have been DREADING this episode coming around. I was broken for like...3 weeks after this aired. Excellent reaction. This is to date, the second time I have watched this episode. Whenever I re-watch Doctor Who, I always skip this episode because I can't bear it lmao

DarkStar 57

Amy waited 12 years so he had ALOT of opportunities

Doctorwhoinfinity (Dor Cohen)

I wish we could have had 11, Amy, and Rory forever. Both the characters, and the actors that portrayed them, were absolutely amazing. Thanks for another excellent reaction Juliette, and hopefully you'll be nice & safe and the weather conditions won't hit you too hard (or ideally at all).

Neil Hanson

Hopefully you'll be safe with the weather! Loved the reaction can't wait for whats next ❤️

Sadbnnuy

😭😭😭 This was so tough, so so tough. I adore Amy and Rory. They have come to mean so much to me and I hate goodbyes, too. Especially saying goodbye to those two... The episode was EXCITING and fun and I felt giddy with wonder about the angels and then River and her wrist (brilliant) and the reading of the book. And then the ending just comes out of nowhere?!?! After I thought everything was FINE?! 😭😭😭 I will say that putting in that caveat that the Doctor can't return to that timeline, AND the epilogue that Amy wrote... it really does make it so final. I can't help but still hope we will see them again (because I am silly) but I know it's not likely. Amazing episode. So painful ☹️

Juliette Gaming

Oh good. A nice happy episode of Doctor Who. I wonder what adventure they'll go on this time................. 😔 End of an ERA!!!!!! (Loved the reaction).

Jonathan Giles

People generally call the first half, season 7A and from the Snowmen onwards its called season 7B

Tobly

I'll be watching this with a tub of Mint Choc Chip Ice Cream that I bought today, as per my tradition of watching your DW reactions lol. I had a feeling you'd be in tears with this one lol. PS. Don't worry if you need to take a break or miss some time. All that matters is you stay safe!

TDA Entertainment

I've been bracing myself for this one for a while knowing the effect it would have on you, actually it still hits me hard to watch just as it did when I first watched it in 2012 (when it originally aired). I think what's particularly hard hitting about it is that it seems like everything is OK before it suddenly hits you with the angel grabbing Rory and everything that follows. I'm sure sales of tissues in Australia have shot up since you started watching the show thanks to episodes like this ;) It's not surprising that the Doctor hates endings (and I can definitely relate) given how many he's endured with friends and companions over the centuries (in fact you touched upon the issue of having to deal with his human friends aging), and this one is bound to hit hard. Actually even though Amy and Rory's actors left by choice it was still hard for everyone and from what I've read things got very emotional when the were filming the final scene as the had gotten pretty close during their time on the show.

Alice Summers

Just think how powerful these angels are. Not only do they send people back constantly but they send you back the perfect amount of time so that you die just after your past self sees you. They can calculate exactly how long you'll live and send you back the appropriate amount of time. As for your question at the end. The only time he went to see her when she was waiting in the garden was during The Big Bang when he was going back on his own timeline. But that now never happened. So Amelia would've been waiting all night for the Doctor who ended up being 12 years late. That smile from Amelia with the TARDIS sounds was originally when it transitioned to Amy in bed and it was meant to be her dreaming of that night (and dreaming wrongly that the Doctor did turn up). But I'm guessing that now, it isn't a dream anymore.

OverWims

HAHA yes!! I can't remember everything 🤣

Juliette Gaming

Yeah, I mean the Snowman by 7x6! Sorry! I think it's listed on IMDB as 7x6 as well. This season seems confusing with a Christmas special and then the season continuing!

Juliette Gaming

I love how you completely forgot that the angels send people back in time 🤣

OverWims

Don't worry, I know for a fact Juliette watched it. 😃

Daryl

When you say you haven't edited Doctor Who 7x6, do you mean the Christmas Special (as there is one before 7x6)? The Snowmen is before The Bells of Saint John.
