It's probably my least favourite Halloween episode so far, but to be fair, the others were REALLY good and hard to beat. Giles with a chainsaw? Anya's bunny costume? Willow as a ghost and the library card moment? Come on.... Not easy to improve on that 🤣
I hope you all have a lovely weekend! Pretty much no plans here, definitely need some downtime so I'll probably play more Cult of the Lamb and relax some 💜

Whoa, "over the years" would be... even more messed up. I chose to believe that Willow's overuse of magic is a recent development. Maybe connected to the shock of Buffy's death and her not accepting it. But I think there's a hint that she might have used the forget-spell before, because Tara's so much on her side when it came to resurrect Buffy, but Willow kept the doe-killing a secret even before her. Maybe she had several re-runs of a discussion with Tara until she figured out how to convince her to back her.

I'm now imagining a montage of forget flower usages over the years, going back to very old episodes. Like they'd had this planned all along. That would be INSANELY good!

I mean it's very well-written, the dialogues are snappy - the writers obviously know these characters very well. But Halloween and Fear Itself were just great. Tara is always the voice of reason - she may have a stutter when she's nervous but she still always has a balanced view and good arguments. Buffy relying on Giles to talk to Dawn is not good, but it is overshadowed by what Willow does next. I have to go clothes shopping this weekend. Ugh.

When I watch a Halloween episode, I want it to get me in the Halloween spirit and this episode didn't achieve that. Teens being mischievous and Halloween go together sure, but unlike the first two Halloween episodes, the story didn't have to unfold during Halloween. The old man twist was well done, but I would have preferred if he was an evil wizard that brought jack o' lanterns to life or something to make the episode more Halloween-y.

Not only is it my least favorite Halloween episode, it's also my least favorite episode of season 6, and probably one of my least favorite Buffy episodes overall. Still has some good moments though, which really just goes to show how excellent the show is on the whole.

'It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown' is a Halloween special first aired in 1966 that is still played each year on US TV. There are several 'Peanuts' (I.e. Charlie Brown comics) specials for various holidays including 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' (remember Willow and Xander and the Snoopy dance) and 'It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown'. Dawn's friend Janice was played by Amber Tamblyn, a rather prolific actress. My favorite role of hers was in 'Joan of Arcadia' as a high school student who speaks with God and is given missions to help people. The show only lasted for 2 seasons but was very poignant and often very funny. In the Bronze, Willow says to Tara, "Don't they know they are brother and sister?" This was in response to two dancers dressed as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia making out.

You think the old man is going to be the villain of the episode, and then he turns out to be innocent and it's actually vampires. We also get Spike's awesome line, "I'm a rebel, you're an idiot." 😂
