Buffy & Angel
Added 2024-06-24 04:55:11 +0000 UTCHello ๐ I hope you all had a lovely weekend! I just wanted to get some help with regards to watching Buffy season 6 and Angel season 3.
I've LOVED watching them in alternate order and it's worked out so well for me, personally. Unfortunately from what I can gather is that there were network issues beginning with Angel season 3.
I've written down all of the episodes and broadcast dates aired for both upcoming series (no spoilers were seen, don't worry) and it does seem to be all over the place, with some episodes they aired 2 x Buffy in a row, 2 x Angel... etc
Am I okay to follow the broadcast order as that is how it originally aired? Or can I still watch in alternating and it will still make sense?
I really wanted to get this sorted before watching the new seasons, so I'd love your help! I remember last time we spoke about the watch order, things got a bit heated in the comments (and I even received some angry private messages ๐) so please can we try and keep things calm.
Thank you in advance ๐

Just wanted to say that I've been thinking SO much over the last few days, and I think what you've suggested here might be the way to go! We just need to get past those initial few episodes where it's a bit muddled, and then it will be the same as we've been doing ๐๐

2024-06-26 04:17:00 +0000 UTCI almost never saw the titles of shows. If you didn't look in TV guide it was very unlikely that you'd know the title of a show.

2024-06-25 23:49:52 +0000 UTCThe reactors version of the guide breaks it up a little better but I can understand the frustration of 4 episode blocks if you're not into Angel.

2024-06-25 23:46:33 +0000 UTCThank you for the gracious reply, Juliette. While I can see how the reduction in frequency is disappointing, it is ultimately up to the creator to set their content schedule. Rest assured that, from a content angle, releasing Angel alongside Buffy is the right call because Angel the series has many moments that are reactor gold. And, from a human angle, of course don't take angry comments to heart. Your reactions have been exceedingly enjoyable in large part due to the amount of sincerity and heart you personally inject.

2024-06-25 20:21:54 +0000 UTCAlternating because I don't like Angel, lol

2024-06-25 12:21:38 +0000 UTCAbsolutely maintain the days. These are two completely different series on two completely different networks. Most of us weren't even watching Angel other than an occasional episode when nothing else was on.

2024-06-25 03:31:58 +0000 UTCyou will never please everyone. so do it the way that will be best for you. your audience comes to see you and would hopefully want you to do what feels best for you personally.

2024-06-25 01:25:16 +0000 UTCThank you, Britney!! It's always good to hear what people think and suggest. I've had a few comments about the 6x1 and 6x2 Buffy episodes, which I think I will put them into the one episode. It will take me a bit longer to edit it, but if it was aired as "one" episode, it does make more sense that way for sure! I'm thinking I'd like to stick with alternating/broadcast schedule so fingers crossed that works out!

2024-06-25 00:51:15 +0000 UTCI think that's a good idea, Jeremy!! Thank you. A few people mentioned the first Buffy episode should be watched all together so I'll try and have that in the one episode ๐

2024-06-24 22:16:17 +0000 UTCThank you, Texas! I think that's my biggest issue with the reactors guide, it's just too many in a row and I'm so used to alternating now and think I'd prefer to stick with that!

2024-06-24 22:15:34 +0000 UTCThank you!! It's so hard to know what to do, but I think maybe broadcast order might be okay!
Juliette Gaming
2024-06-24 22:14:49 +0000 UTCI did wonder if it would mess that up as I see Angel starts first for broadcast order! I was thinking of sneaking in an extra Angel episode on a Sunday and then the normal Angel episode on the Tuesday (Monday for you hehe) so we can sort of maintain the days!

2024-06-24 22:14:17 +0000 UTCAwesome to know, Jason! I might have both episodes in the one long episode. It's split up for me on Disney!

2024-06-24 22:12:46 +0000 UTCThank you!!
Juliette Gaming
2024-06-24 22:11:57 +0000 UTCOOOH that is awesome to know!! Thank you, Darrell! I might do that but I'm hoping I can get the full version to sync up properly as it's split in two on Disney for me.

2024-06-24 22:11:25 +0000 UTCThank you, Mark!! That is a huge help. I did see there's a 2-parter to begin with for Buffy if we follow the broadcast dates so I might just go along with that... maaaaybe ๐

2024-06-24 22:10:42 +0000 UTCNeil ๐ it really did make me so nervous posting this, but I was confused about what to do and I can't really go looking up other reactors as some have the most spoilery thumbnails and titles! I've not followed the Slayalive guide so far, and it's been great to watch in alternating. I do prefer that as long as it works. I've written down all the episode numbers and dates aired, so I could just follow that... I do see that it starts with Angel first and then 2 Buffy's in a row ๐ It's just hard to make a decision sometimes haha so I'm glad I have a little while left to decide. Thank you, Neil ๐ฅฐ

2024-06-24 22:08:54 +0000 UTCThat's what makes sense to me too, Ashley. The people who watched it when it aired would have seen it the same way. I am glad some people said broadcast order is fine as I miiiight lean towards that ๐ the long stretches of one show and not the other would probably upset more people if I did it that way. It's so hard to please everyone ๐
Juliette Gaming
2024-06-24 22:05:47 +0000 UTCI didn't talk about it too much, but some people were very upset that I was going to start reacting to Angel as at the time, I was uploading 2 Buffy episodes per week and adding Angel into the mix meant I had to drop back to 1 episode of Buffy per week ๐
Juliette Gaming
2024-06-24 22:03:43 +0000 UTCOoh thank you, Kevin! Honestly, I hoped this post would help me decide but I might have confused myself even more haha! As long as there's "not a lot" of crossovers, maybe sticking with alternating/broadcast order might be fine.... I guess at the end of the day, at least I'm watching them together with everyone, it's just hard to make everyone happy as we all want different things ๐ฌ
Juliette Gaming
2024-06-24 22:02:49 +0000 UTCI'm fine with whatever you decide, but I think I would prefer if you kept your current format of alternating between the two. Also, as some others have pointed out already, Buffy 6x01 and 6x02 initially aired back to back as one long episode. Some reactors split the two into separate reaction videos which always bothers me. I would prefer one reaction video for the season 6 premiere if you can. That's how it initially aired.
Britney
2024-06-24 22:00:34 +0000 UTCThe slayalive reactors guide is good, but not everyone likes it. At one point it has 6 consecutive episodes of one show, which seems to generate some complaints. Later it has 6 consecutive episodes of the other show, which for some reason doesn't generate complaints. I can think of one instance where broadcast order puts things in the wrong sequence, but not for anything major. I think it is OK for Buffy S6 & Angel S3.
Texas
2024-06-24 21:50:05 +0000 UTCAs long as you're avoiding spoilers, I'm up for whatever you like. I do think when the 2-parters come around, it's great to do those episodes together, both for you the viewer/reactor and us the reactor-viewer ๐
Jeremy J Nickurak
2024-06-24 19:09:45 +0000 UTCI suggested watching them in air date order on YouTube a long time ago and said that even if this isn't what you were doing, I would wait for more episodes so that I can watch your reactions in air date order. It makes no difference to me what order you watch them in, do what ever makes you happy, I'll just go with the flow.

2024-06-24 15:51:34 +0000 UTCI'm a new subscriber. What's the context of the angry messages, what were they mad about? I cannot fathom viewing order being something controversial at all.
Judson
2024-06-24 15:46:08 +0000 UTCAs was mentioned, there are no actual character appearance cross-overs between Buffy 6 and Angel 3 (unlike Buffy 7 and Angel 4). There are mentions of activities in one show about the other, however, they aren't spoilery unless we were to talk about them before the Buffy 5 and Angel 2 finales. That said, I would vote for broadcast order which, unfortunately, might mess up your Buffy Fridays and Angel Mondays.
David Schmidt
2024-06-24 15:28:06 +0000 UTCEither way works, but Buffy 6x01 and 6x02 were broadcast together, as one episode, I think.
jasonm
2024-06-24 14:56:04 +0000 UTCBroadcast order will always be fine. The suggested orders various people put online are about mostly about trying to group mini arcs together, but theyโre not necessary.
R. Chang
2024-06-24 13:46:00 +0000 UTCAlternating should be fine. The slayalive order takes away from giving the viewer breathers from the storylines of each show which I think is a minus--sometimes you need/want breathers but you don't get that from the storyline order. These seasons weren't made for binging so it doesn't take away anything to do one of each.

2024-06-24 12:46:55 +0000 UTCI highly recommend simply sticking to what you've been doing. As others have pointed out, the Buffy opener is a 90min episode, so I'd make that one exception. My suggestion is to ignore air dates and do: Angel 3x1 Buffy 6x1 Buffy 6x2 Angel 3x2 Angel 3x3 Buffy 6x3 ... And then just keep alternating. This preserves all continuity, with Angel now being first.

2024-06-24 09:30:09 +0000 UTC(Other than that people who like one show more than the other don't want a whole row of the other show, of course, but I'm talking storywise.)
Patrick Armbruster
2024-06-24 07:43:57 +0000 UTCor it makes sense from the story. can't talk about it, coz spoilers, obviously, but it's in no way ridiculous.
Patrick Armbruster
2024-06-24 07:32:36 +0000 UTCIt's because reacting to the title of an episode (we as viewers don't see that as a reaction) is far less interesting than to see the reactor be surprised by something that happens, someone who shows up etc. Quite simple.
Patrick Armbruster
2024-06-24 07:30:34 +0000 UTCI don't understand why people recommend the "safe" copy. When we watched it as they were coming out we saw the titles. I think it's best for reactors to experience it the same way.
Michael Short
2024-06-24 07:19:04 +0000 UTCAlternating as you've been doing makes the most sense, but the first episode of Buffy season 6 was an extra long episode that got crudely split into 2 episodes for syndication. You absolutely want to watch it as a single episode (that's how it was broadcast). Splitting it in two is awkward and frustrating for the viewer.
Darrell Palmer
2024-06-24 07:17:42 +0000 UTCI agree with this. I prefer alternating order
Michael Short
2024-06-24 07:15:32 +0000 UTCI think I can help with this one. I didn't have Satellite TV when this was airing, but I grabbed the VHS box sets as they became available (Yes, I'm old, shhh!). I know what people are getting at by the disjoint, but it's not a huge deal. The opening episode of Buffy is a 2-parter and it's worth watching both of them first, then switching with Angel 1 at a time from there. That pretty much syncs up the time line for me, then you can do an Angel double feature at the end of S3. But people are right, you can absolutely just do them the same as always and you'll be fine. You're smart enough to figure it out :)
Mark Coyne
2024-06-24 06:45:32 +0000 UTCFirst off, let's hope people are mature enough to not be sending you angry messages this time around. It's wild to me that people actually did that! (and actually kind of sad) As for the order you watch, slayalive or broadcast are both fine really. Slayalive seems to be the way the reactor community has decided is best, so if you want the least hassle I would go with that I guess. Personally though, it recommends too many episodes in a row from one show or the other for my liking so I prefer broadcast order.
Neil Hanson
2024-06-24 06:31:04 +0000 UTCthe air dates should be a fine way to do it. the slayalive order while some like it can be confusing and can have long stretches of one show. it throws off the reaction between the two shows sometimes, the way things play into each other. so the air dates seems the safest. that is how people watched them originally, so that should make the most sense as a viewer.
Ashley Thomas
2024-06-24 06:18:34 +0000 UTCOkay Jules, most importantly, you should ignore those idiots who wrote you some angry messages. Just don't even answer them. You are a wonderful, lovely person who doesn't deserve any hate from anyone, ever, and the haters should be ashamed of themselves. Now that I got this out of my system, I agree with GaveUp's comment, it's probably best to follow the slayalive reactor guide. Actually, I'd argue the watch order doesn't matter too much after Buffy season 5. Buffy changed networks after that but Angel didn't, so for that reason there won't be a lot of crossovers anymore, unfortunately. Which, on the plus side, makes the confusing watch order issue less important, in my opinion. Whatever you choose, it will be fine with me. :-)
Kevin Karst
2024-06-24 05:19:06 +0000 UTCI'm pretty sure you could just do the broadcast order, however I would start with Angel season 3 first and then begin alternating back and forth. Slayalive guide is nice and all but I believe it recommends 7 Angel episodes in a row at one point between season 2 and 3, which is a bit ridiculous.
Steveo
2024-06-24 05:11:45 +0000 UTCFor reactions the slayalive reactor guide works the best. Thereโll be some squabbling from viewers that think their opinion is the only one that matters but it creates a great viewing experience in my opinion. As far as technical air order goes thereโs just one spot where air order can be a problem depending on where you look. The Iraq was was announced during an Angel episode so it was preempted in some places. As far as the slayalive guide goes a few episodes have spoilery titles even in the reactor version. A โsafeโ copy can be provided. Thereโs also at least one episode that has what fans consider an important scene messed up or missing entirely depending on how you watch.
