Doctor Who 2x10 Love And Monsters | Full Reaction

You know what? I ended up looking this episode up on IMDB after I finished and I was surprised to see it wasn't a well liked episode. I thought it was grand! It had such an interesting and unique way of telling the story. A group of people, who all were aware of the Doctor and wanted to know more about him, and forming friendships along the way. It was lovely! Sometimes my views don't really align with that of the general mass 🤣 I liked it! Elton was lovely, and his interaction with Jackie was very sweet, too.

Please tell me that IMDB is just silly and you guys liked this one as well 🥹

As we are getting close to the end of this season, is there anything I MUST DO before heading into season 3? Other than minisode and Christmas episode, if applicable? I know Torchwood is a recurring theme and there is a spin-off show, but I think I might just continue on with Doctor Who and slip back to the spin-offs when I am all done. I don't have time for another reaction per week to edit, and also I'm having such a great time with Who that I just want to keep going and not put it on pause for 3 months 🥰

That is a good idea, thank you! I don't have Sarah Janes Adventures but I have Torchwood on my streaming service. I could definitely see if I could do that, and explain that I won't be watching the series in its entirety until I am ready 😊

As another poster suggested, a good compromise would be to watch the first episode of each series. Both premieres came between Who Series 2 and Series 3: Torchwood in October 2006 and Sarah Jane Adventures January 2007, with the 2006 Christmas Special coming between them. It would give you a flavor of the shows and their "place" within the Doctor Who universe, while not having full time shows to add to the schedule.

I feel SO much better knowing others loved this one, too! I thought it was so unique and I adored Elton 🥰

I've always loved this episode, I was happy to see your love for it too in your reaction. It was lovely to me seeing all these characters in the same universe, a link between each other effectively being established over the Doctor... it was an incredibly fun & wholesome episode to me. A lot of people seem to just view this as some boring filler episode. Also, unsure if you'd remember but Elton's actor (Marc Warren) was the one who played Blythe in one of the early episodes of Band of Brothers. The one who went temporarily blind. I watched Band of Brothers after Dr Who, I was somewhat shocked to see Marc Warren in it.

I've always loved this episode, Elton is such a great character, would've loved to of seen him again. I always feel bad for Jackie in this episode. Great Reaction! 😀

My main reason for liking this episode - I, too, am an ELO fan. And 'Mr. Blue Sky' is not only a perfect feel-good song, it fits the Doctor perfectly, like a pinstripe suit. :-)

Watching ya gameplay then realising you have a watch channel with DOCTOR WHO!!!! got me quite excited tbh, so I’m here and ready to rewatch my whole childhood with ya 😂 - welsh

Sorry but i gotta side with IMDB here. Don't like this episode. When she turns into a paving slab at the end like what? Lol

I'm sure this has already been said, but the most probable reason this episode was hated was that the monster, frankly, was silly as heck. I certainly thought so. But, to be fair, the monster design was based on a fan submission. By a kid. So, yeah, I give it a mulligan.

I hadn't seen this for years and now I remember why it's another one of my favorite episodes. I'm glad you enjoyed it. That guy who played Elton was an intense actor. His screen presence pretty much carried the entire episode for us and did a wonderful job. Doctor Who can be fun with fleets of daleks, marching armies of cybermen, crazed face painted creatures but what I really love is when they combine great acting, drama, craftsmanship and scriptwriting. Pretty much all of season one did it, but lots lots of great things here in season two and into the future). Thanks again for your reactions! I was going to close this with a famous phrase from this tenth doctor but I realize he hasn't said it yet (thank you google), so I'll just close with "Fantastic!"

p.s. My vote is to keep moving forward with Dr. Who episodes. Save Torchwood and other spinoffs for later. You're only 5 "years" away from the 50th anniversary special(s). Pretty nifty!

Hi Juliette! I don't know what IMDB is talking about. Stick with your instincts. I've been looking forward to watching this unique episode with you as a full reaction. TBH I've been using your short reactions on youtube for the past several episodes. After the first few must sees full length (all the way thru Girl in the Fireplace) I had to take the short path after that because life has been so busy, but I've got some more upcoming "must sees" still in the plans. I love your reactions to all of these so thank you for sharing with us!

I think they literally reused bits of the Slitheen costume (especially the claws) to save money and threw in the twin planet line after the costume was done.

Juggling Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures alongside Doctor Who when you only have the bandwidth to take on one episode per week total is probably not really worth it. Personally I do think it would be good to at least watch the first episode of each at some point after the end of series 2 but before the end of series 4. That gives you almost 6 months to try to squeeze in 2 episodes which might be a bit more manageable? As for this episode, it did get a lot of hate at the time, but now as people watch back over it they are seeing it through different eyes. But that's why the IMDB rating is so low for it. I think most people couldn't get past the "sex life" image. Also the monster is a bit campy and silly, but that's because it was designed by a child as part of a national competition to create a Doctor Who monster, the winner of which would have their monster featured in an episode.

The body suit was definitely reminiscent of the Slitheen 🤣

Juliette Gaming

Thank you, Neil 💜 I appreciate your understanding but then I know you're awesome 🥰 There will be some that may be upset about Torchwood, but I really don't think I can handle any more shows right now. It's already at the point of being too much as it is! I could always just watch it by myself, to be honest, that way I'd be able to watch the episodes that people are most keen for me to see before Doctor Who. Why can't life be simple 🤣 Have a lovely sleep with pleasant dreams, dear Neil 💜😸

Juliette Gaming

While this isn't one of my favourite episodes it certainly wasn't bad. Peter Kay gives a wonderfully over the top performance while his body suit harks back to the OG Who's low budget effects. Elton was a great character to lead this story and I agree that it's always interesting when we see the Doctor through other eyes. As an aside, Marc Warren who played Elton was also absolutely brilliant as the villainous Mr Teatime ("It's pronounced Teh-ah-tim-eh, sir.") in the TV adaptation of Sir Terry Pratchett's wonderful Hogfather.

The Rising Ape

No minisode 😭Thankfully we have the Christmas episodes! They are almost like a movie 🥰

Juliette Gaming

And this is why I try not to look at the reviews! Damn! Stupid imdb 🤣 It was GREAT! I loved seeing regular people bonding over the Doctor and Elton was a blast! Such a sweet and quirky fellow!

Juliette Gaming

Probably the most scorned episode for a long long while. I adore it, particularly because of the unnecessary vitriol, emboldens me to love it even more. You know what, from day one, I knew you would have a blast with this one!!!

Daryl

There’s no minisode between season 2 & 3, but there is a Christmas special! There’s a Christmas episode between every season. It’s a modern Who tradition! Can’t wait to see your reaction to the finale!

Trey Moore

Hi Juliette. I watched this episode a few days back and, like yourself, thought it was really good! I loved the uniqueness of it, the story focusing not on the Doctor, but instead on people who would ordinarily be peripheral characters at best. I thought the ending was pretty sad though, and to be honest, I think I would rather have died than be nothing more than a face on a slab of concrete. Don't worry about Torchwood. You do so much for us already and no one can expect you to do anymore (well, I'm sure some people will but they are to be ignored 😂). Also, silly BBC! You're giving them free advertising! Do whatever you need with the videos, I'm sure everyone understands the difficulties copyright can bring.
