Buffy - The Freshman S4 E1 - Full Reaction

Our very first episode of Season 4 is here! I sometimes cannot believe we're so far into it already!

I've left in a talk about the watch order, but that's mostly for YouTube purposes as you guys already know what I'm doing with that! I am feeling much less stress about that since I made a decision. The most important thing, I think, is to be able to watch these shows with excitement and not feel stressed when I'm sitting down to record 😸

This episode was a bit awkward and sad for Buffy as nothing really went right, but I think that really hit home as to how different things would be in University and not High School. I thought that was a good way to showcase the feeling of change and feeling out of your depth. Lots of surprises in this one, as usual 😅

Angel 1x01 will be uploaded on Tuesday (Aussie time), so Buffy episodes will be on this day per week, with an Angel episode every Tuesday!

Buffy - The Freshman S4 E1 - Full Reaction

Comments

I usually have to skip the part where Buffy is kicked out of class because I get second-hand embarrassment 🤣 I think I read somewhere that the writers had considered making Sunday a Slaypire (Slayer turned into a vampire) which I think would have been cool. But I also like the way it turned out as well. Idk, might have just been a rumour spread around the Buffy chats lol. Amazing reaction as always! 😊

Melanie

I loved Sunday as a villain. I’m still disappointed that she was killed off so soon. I don’t know if it’s legit or just rumors, but there’s always been talk amongst the Buffy fandom that Sunday was originally supposed to be the big bad of the season as a former slayer turned vampire. I really wish they had went that route because it would have been interesting. Maybe they didn’t since they already had the Faith storyline last season, with a slayer turning to the dark side. I still think Sunday was too interesting for just a one off episode though.

Britney

I feel like its more clear in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie that predates the series. They're *almost* the same continuity because they reference things that happened in the movie in the series but, the timeline and ages don't exactly line up.

Nebraska

Ah yeah, that makes sense! I thought the Council could take matters into their own hands and just pick one of the other slayers who are getting trained behind the scenes that we don't see. I just get a bit confused at times as Kendra was taken from her family at a young age to begin slayer training. I guess I assumed there's others out there getting trained and the council would just appoint one of those to take over if Buffy quits and she's still alive!

Juliette Gaming

AHHH! I wondered if it could be!! That's VERY cool!

It's so funny that Buffy talks about taking a pop culture class, and there have been (maybe still are) courses studying Buffy. I really liked Sunday, I'm sad she died already. She's very sassy. You said that there might be a new "official" slayer, but remember that Kendra was only called because Buffy died, and Faith because Kendra died. The Watcher's Council doesn't choose a slayer, it happens automatically through some mystical means. So unless something big happens, there's only Buffy, and maybe Faith, for now.

Reddit is a hive of insane Leftist scum and villainy, I'd stay away from Reddit if I were you.

Irrelevant, but interesting, tidbit, the guy at the bar who Buffy (and Jules) mistook for Angel was Mike Massa, David Boreanaz/Angel's stunt double.

David Schmidt

Angel reactions, big thumbs up. Alternating weekly episodes is the way to go. There are a couple of two-parters within both seasons but the alternating order just means that you will have to be patient waiting for the resolution that is how they were aired originally.

David Schmidt

Wow!! Never realized that was Pedro Pascal till this rewatch... 🤯

AtomicAcorn

Reddit do be like that!

Juliette Gaming

I will be brave and watch the intros soon 🤣

I like Xander! Most people don't like him but I don't think it's his fault... he can't help the way he was written to be 😅 honestly, this episode has shown that he DOES have a good side to him and I'm hopeful that he will continue to grow and mature. It's a great start for him! I loved his talk with Buffy 💜

Juliette Gaming

I get flayed in reddit if I say anything positive about Xander, it's ridiculous.

Stephen Knueppel

I love that you have patience with Xander. He has his downsides but he's also got his upsides like all the rest of the characters. I really don't get why it's so popular to dislike him. Though I admit the popular dislike of him makes me like him more.

Jonathan Hall

It's just Angel you need to avert your eyes for the intro and just for the first episode :)

Jonathan Hall

Very fun reaction! And for what it’s worth, I think you’ll really enjoy Angel! Can’t wait for your reactions to it!

Trey Moore

I'm so excited for this season and the coming ones, both Buffy and Angel. :D

Michael Short

“She seems nice. When will she die?” So much for Juliette’s rep as the sweet and kind reactor.
