Buffy - Lie To Me S2 E7 - Full Reaction

Ah, Buffy. Where else can I go to feel sorry for the "bad guy"? They sure like to torment me with that recurring theme!

This was a good one and had our new friend Spike in it again, too. Another bad dude. I don't feel sorry for him though, but I do like him. I'm conflicted. I like Spike but I also want Buffy to kill him?

Is it normal to have so many conflicting emotions 😆

The way that it makes us feel sad for the "bad guys" is just out of this world! It conflicts me so but I adore it! It is definitely testament to just how incredible the show is. I do not ever want to doubt our Giles 😭 my heart would be torn if he was bad! I adore him so!

I absolutely love how this fantastic writing can make me feel so sorry for the bad guys! They do it again and again and I think it's testament to how good the writing and cast are. I love it! How Vampires Dress gag was EPIC!!! I am dying to know if that was actually from his wardrobe on set or did they make a new shirt for the other actor 😆

One of my favorite episodes. The scenes with Buffy and Angel, Buffy and Ford, and Buffy and Giles are all excellent. The themes of trust honesty were wonderfully done.

That speech at the end just makes me tear up every time I'm watching. And then Buffy's "Liar!" puts another smile on my face.

I think sometimes the overall thread of Buffy is that there's no black and white when it comes to good and evil. Much like Giles alludes to in his "lie" to Buffy at the end. The bad guys don't always have a black hat and a twirled moustache, and the good guys don't always wear white hats and aren't always stalwart and true. I think the reason this show has endeared itself to people for 25 years is because you can feel bad for the "bad" guy as you did for Ford. And you can still feel shifty about the "good" guy like you are about Giles. Nothing is set and defined. I loved your reaction to this Juliette. :)

I really like the bits of backstory on Drusilla we get in this episode.

Another great episode. It's so wonderful seeing your reactions as you learn more about the characters, peeling away the layers and learning their pasts. :)

Couple of things here that often slip by folks in this one. One, that was Ford that rose as a vampire at the end there to give you the good jump scare😬😆 It seems Spike did end up keeping his word and turned him, maybe either because he knew Buffy would get him anyway or maybe because turning him is as good as killing him since that person is "dead" afterwards as Buffy described it, a demon setting up ship in their old body. Also there's a very quick shot of Ford taking some pills at one point, hinting at the big reveal at end with his health. This is a real favourite of mine. Very dramatic, some important backstory on Dru and Angel, and what feels like an important point in Buffy's character growth as well, and as you pointed out another sympathetic villain which it looks like it's something this show does very well. It's also very well written and directed, the plot has lots of twists and turns to keep us guessing and there's a lot of neat stuff going on with the camera and lighting to make it all very dramatic and keeps us feeling like we're a little off balance. The slow camera circle around Buffy and Ford in the courtyard, Dracula's last line on the tv being whispered after we've already cut to black, the way we're slowly introduced to Buffy fighting the vamp from Ford's point of view with first the girl running away then the fight audio being brought in before we can see what's happening, just really fun stuff. And not to mention the How Vampires Dress gag😆 Probably one of my favourite jokes in the entire series. If someone asked me to pick some episodes that I considered quintessential Early Buff this one would probably be on the short list.
