Buffy - The Reptile Boy S2 E5 - Full Reaction

Comments

The worm demon was definitely weird, although I do appreciate how much better the physical effects have gotten since, say, the praying mantis in Teacher's Pet. Although in that one I'll definitely credit them with knowing how sketchy it looked and doing their best to hide it with shadows and camera angles. Not unlike Teacher's Pet I think a lot of folks get hung up on the age stuff, both the college guys luring girls to the frat house and the age difference between Angel and Buffy which they bring up in this episode. And to be fair, it is off-putting. But I guess what I would say to that is that it's supposed to be. The whole idea is that it's the bad guys doing a bad thing, a bad thing that unfortunately happens in real life, although not for the purposes of casting spells or making sacrifices obviously. At no point does the show say that what the college guys were doing was ok. If we're going to get mad at that then we should get mad every time someone is killed in a tv show and that would be silly. It's a show with demons in it lol, none of it is real. As far as Angel goes, he's a vampire. Although he's 240+ he's also really just in his early 20s. And we can feel how we feel about that too but the fact is that's also something that happens in real life. More to the point it's there as a parallel to highten the idea that they can't be together despite their feelings. They love each other but the world is telling them its not allowed, whether it's age or the Slayer/vampire dynamic. It's part of the whole forbidden love trope. Also, like, it's TV lol. Ok, I've ranted enough for today😆 See you in the next one

OOOH! Yes, having daughters and seeing such an old dude with Buffy would have risen lots of red flags! I definitely get that. I think for Buffy and Angel to work, we really need to kind of forget how old he is otherwise too much thinking about it can be a bit harmful 🤣

Willow always was so adorable from the beginning, but I really feel she is evolving! I think maybe working to help Buffy has given her a lot more confidence in herself and her own abilities. She is super smart, but amazingly humble. She's a character that sort of creeps up on you and then she's buried deep inside. Like a leech. 🤣

YES! No drinks! Stop 😬

I think sometimes I am still stuck in the 90's and 00's! I watch some short comedy videos about "Girls getting ready in X year" and I wore the exact same stuff and STILL have that stuff! I haven't really.... graduated... to whatever style I should be wearing these days 🤣

Thank you!!! That is incredible to hear 🥰 It's so funny sometimes as I only learn that an episode is not well liked from the comments! I did think the worm guy was a bit cheesy but there were SO many great parts in this that I forgive them 🤣

Buffy and Giles, the best relationship on the show💕 I've said it before and I'll say it again, you're ability to take some of the fanbase's least favourite episodes and unironically enjoy and find the good stuff in them is what continues to make this one of my favourite channels. Don't stop doing what you're doing.

Well the next episode begins the transition of Buffy from a good show to a truly great show. I'm so excited for you because you will be amazed by what's in store for the rest of the season. I was bothered by the huge age gap between Angel and Buffy. In this episode it was creepy enough to have college seniors hitting on 16 year old girls but then to think of a 241 year old vampire dating one really gave me issues. Of course at the time of these episodes first airing I had 2 daughters, 1 was 14 and the other 16 so it was hitting close to home lol

That scene where Willow tells off Giles and Angel is my favourite part of this episode.

I loved seeing Willow giving Giles and Angel a good telling off! Much deserved I say. Yes, Buffy is the slayer and has some very serious responsibilities, but she's also a teenage girl who also wants to have some semblance of a normal life. I like this episode well enough overall. An evil fraternity isn't the most original of stories but it has the usual funny moments and witty dialogue that Buffy is known for so that elevates it a fair bit. It did end on a nice moment also, with Angel seeming to get over his apprehension and ask Buffy on a date (or a coffee, at least). I would love to know how on earth that snake demon was making the frat guys wealthy though! Another excellent reaction Juliette. Thanks.

Xander had some funny lines in this one. The drugging part always creeps me out. Don't accept drinks from strangers, people.

Okay this episode is still as weird as I remember it. You know the thing I remember most about the episode? Buffy's hair. It looks so perfect in this episode. I mean it's entirely 90s but it's so cute and lovely that's my main takeaway from the episode.

Oh Juliette with these episodes you are truly spoiling us! Off to watch now. Didn't expect another one so soon so I'll be back later to comment further.
