Band of Brothers - Episode 1 - Currahee - Full Reaction

Ooooh I'm SO excited to be starting a NEW series!

I'm going to be taking a small break from The X Files over the next few weeks as it's coming up to Easter and I'd like to take some days off to spend with my family. I'm planning to go and play at the driving range, go to a local theatre for a dinner and show and generally not sit down in my chair here for 12 hours a day for a bit ๐Ÿคญ So X Files will be coming back, but just after a small break! In the meantime, I'm going to be watching Band Of Brothers for the first time and I really hope you guys enjoy it ๐Ÿ’œ

My first impressions are that it's a pretty solid start! I don't know a lot about the soldiers just yet, but it's already making an impact. Easy Company seem to be a strong unit, perhaps due to the strict training from Lt Sobel. Looking forward to where this journey takes us!

Band of Brothers - Episode 1 - Currahee - Full Reaction

Comments

Oh thank you so much!! I am so glad to hear that. Sometimes I wonder if I'm even doing the right thing, so hearing this makes me feel I'm on the right track ๐Ÿ’œ

I subscribed for Buffy but Band of Brothers is an amazing surprise. I can't tell you how many times I've watched both shows and it's always great when others get to experience them for the first time. Just wanted to say that your reactions so far to both Buffy and this first episode of BoB have been excellent. Really looking forward to the rest of the journey with both shows.

Negative

This is truly a amazing series thanks so much Juliette<3 As always the first episode is a get to know the characters type thing but once the action starts you're going to love it even more!

You'll learn some over time. I do recommend watching the documentary "We Stand Alone Together" after the show (it's a bit over an hour, only these interviews). I think you'll appreciate finding out who they were, and hearing more details in context, after finishing the show. And of course, not everyone makes it through, so it could be seen as spoilery.

Asmo0

Absolutely no spoilers. I've got lots of things I'm holding back until you get there. In addition to the book there's a documentary "We Stand Alone Together" which is where the interviews came from. Also, after you're done with this show there's a guy on YouTube, can't remember his name, that breaks down all of the events Easy company was involved with. I mean if you want to be as much a nerd with this stuff as I am.

Aaron Chandler

Oooh being that guy is perfectly fine as long as there are no spoilers โ˜บ๏ธ sorry for no paragraphs, but I'm on my phone and it doesn't allow me to for some reason! I've heard there is a book available too which I'd love to read. Sobel is an interesting person. I believe he created an incredible group of soldiers, trained in all sorts of dire situations. He might have been hated, but he prepared them in the best way. Like I said, I'd rather train under him than someone who didn't prepare me enough. I thought he was a great trainer but not great at leading and he wasn't really given much of a chance to.... but... I guess when you're on the battlefield, you want someone who is already a great leader and not one that simply might become one. A great start, I love it a lot!

Something I've noticed with the interviews with the real soldiers is that they don't show their names. Is this intentional? I wondered if the reasoning behind that was for those who are unfamiliar, not know who each soldier is that's talking. If you do know, I'd love to be enlightened! I'm genuinely curious. It's been wonderful so far and I hope to watch some more today ๐Ÿ’œ

I apologize in advance. When it comes to this show I am "that guy". I religiously watch this show once a year because I think it's that important. If you don't like "that guy" feel free to scroll right past me. I won't be offended. A note on Sobel. He was Jewish and in those days anti-Jewish sentiment was a real problem. Not just in Germany, but all over the world, including the US. That is one reason it is believed that he felt the need to work extra hard to prove himself and why he drove the men so hard. He needed to be the best and command the best. Later, the surviving members of Easy Company all agreed, to a man, that they hated his guts. And they all agreed, to a man, that he was the reason they were so good at what they did. He may have been a bad leader, but you can't argue with his results as an instructor. Couple of fun facts, while I'm here. - Most of the actors in this show are British, not American. - All the actors took portraying the real men accurately very seriously. Some were able to meet with the real men they were portraying. So serious that if the script had them in a scene that the real man said they weren't there for they would go to the director and have themselves removed from the scene. - The Winters court-martial was only one of a few things Sobel did in an attempt to undermine him. Couldn't show them all in an hour.

Ha, you'll be 50 but still only look like you're in your mid thirties! I watched the first episode (alongside your reaction) earlier this evening and thought it was really good. Although for the first few minutes seeing Ross from Friends as a super strict commander threw me off a bit!

Neil Hanson

I love this show and enjoyed your reaction. Yes, it is based on real events and real people. All the named main characters were real, and the short interview snippets are all with real Easy Company veterans, most or all of which are in the show. A lot of the story and details come from these interviews, drawn from a separate documentary filmed a few years earlier. Some of the actors also got to sit down and talk to the person they were portraying, find out who they were and hear first-hand account stories. I think that's part of the reason why the acting is so amazing and feels so authentic throughout this show - they all wanted to honor the real heroes they were portraying. Looking forward to the next one.

NEIL, thank you! Silly me! I've fixed that now. It is a great series so far. I've watched 3 episodes and it's very gripping and exciting, though I feel guilty for saying it's exciting as it's also awful what the soldiers had to go through. I don't know how many seasons of the X Files I'll get through as I can only really watch 2 per year. I figure I'll be 50 by the time it's done ๐Ÿคฃ

Juliette Gaming

I haven't for a loooong time ๐Ÿคฃ I am sure my driving range outing will be hilariously bad haha

Juliette Gaming

Eric, THANK YOU! It's so lovely to hear from you! I have to honestly say that I love that you are there, just chilling and being awesome, and having fun with the videos. Your comment really made me feel SO good and makes me feel like I'm fulfilling some sort of good purpose in my life. I don't know if that makes sense, but you really did make me feel very happy. Thank you and I hope that there are many great days ahead for you ๐Ÿ’œ

Juliette Gaming

Andy, I'm sorry ๐Ÿ˜“ these are in watch a long style because of legal reasons. I have asked here a few times and experimented with audio/no audio back at the beginning when I was trying out full length versions, and most people said that no audio was better. I truly just wish I could put the whole thing there but a lot of patreon pages got shut down recently because of that. It's SO hard to know what to do, but I would prefer not to get into a legal battle as my cats can't afford that ๐Ÿคญ

Juliette Gaming

I can't hear anything other than your beautiful voice

Andy

Usually, I am a very silent patreon subscriber and I very rarely comment. However, I feel it is incumbent upon me to let me know how grateful I am for your reactions. Buffy is my favorite show of all time and I would say Band of Brothers is close to my favorite mini series of all time. I just wanted to put forth the effort to let you know how grateful I am that you took time to do these reactions. I look forward to them! It makes bad days better and it makes good days great. Thank you Miss Juliette and I canโ€™t wait to revisit these journeys alongside you ๐Ÿ’œ

Eric Hoover

I've not seen Band of Brothers before so I'll grab the series and watch along with you. Giving yourself a little break from the X Files is a good idea. There's so many episodes and you wouldn't want to get burnt out on the show. Sounds like you've got some fun activities planned with the family, hope you all have a great time! (BTW, the YouTube edit is set to private)

Neil Hanson

Awesome series!!!!! I didn't know you golfed

Andy

my plan is to start with Arcane, since i've been wanting to watch that for a while now. Although I might do BoB as my 2nd show instead of Mandalorian which is what I had planned :)

Michael Short

This would be a GREAT one to start with! It's so good. Give it a try and see how you go ๐Ÿค—

Juliette Gaming

I haven't seen this one. I was just about to start watching it with you when I realised I should probably be reacting to it on my channel lol
