Poking Around Pt 90

Thank you very much to everyone who participated in the Patrons’ Den poll late last month, determining where the story goes next. Here’s the result!
I wonder if I’m getting too self-indulgent with these pages…? Let me know what you think. And please look forward to the continuation, including why Bo is so adamant that Kuroki doesn’t get involved. TL notes below as always and thank you again, I do like to work on these pages, even if they take me an age (even with the cardinal sin of repeat panels).
TL Notes:
- 不合格者 reads as fugōkakusha, or “unsuccessful applicant”. Rejected sounds snappier though.
- ボカッ! reads as bokan. It’s a reference to one of my favourite gags in Shin Chan.
- `Ike aku,`ike mai, kôkua aku, kôkua mai; pela iho la ka nohana `ohana is a Hawaiian proverb that say “Recognise others, be recognised; help others, be helped; such is a familial relationship.” Familial in this context not strictly meaning blood relations but anyone close to you.
- お願いします reads as onegaishimasu.
- Vahna Drive: a reference to how you pronounce wana, (sea-urchin). I’iwi Hahani was mentioned way back in Part 21. But now I correctly understand it as a corruption of hānai (feeder) and the ʻIʻiwi (the Hawaiian scarlet honeycreeper).
- Orbeni Bulletin: A reference to the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, which was the longest running newspaper in Hawaii until 2010. After its Canadian media conglomerate buyout, it spiritually continues as the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Orbeni is Hawaiian for space, a reference to this (apparently, you battle those two in the games).
- Eiji Tensaihadano: A completely fictitious person meant to represent crowd-funding campaigns that failed to deliver their promises. Tensaihada 天才肌 means “person who appears to be a genius”. Eiji is just a name but can mean “great” depending on the kanji used.
- “He left behind a legacy…”: It wasn’t a coincidence I used a cutesy version of this puppy. It’s a reference to this guy.
