Question Regarding Polls
Added 2024-08-12 01:03:30 +0000 UTCHi everyone, I've had a thought regarding polls lately that I wanted to run by you and get your opinions on.
I've noticed there are some characters that are consitently popular but unfortunately not popular enough to ever win (cough mordred cough), and I've been thinking about how to introduce some more variety to the polls without necessarily having to exclude characters that are more likely to win.
I've looked at the way some other creators handle polls, and after some thought, I've come up with an idea that will give people who really want specific characters to win the ability to influence the polls a bit more while keeping the experince basically the same for those who have no strong feelings.
The idea is as follows:
Tier 1 patrons will get a voting power of 2 points per vote
Tier 2 patrons will get a voting power of 5 points per vote
Tier 3 patrons will get a voting power of 10 points per vote
I'm thinking of running three seperate versions of the poll, each locked to a specific tier. Once the poll is concluded, I'll tally all the points and make a post announcing the winner and showing the results of all three polls.
The suggestions system will stay the same, it won't be influenced by tier, and you'll still be able to vote for multiple characters. The only difference will be that higher tier patrons will have stronger influence.
Please let me know what you think, I am open to suggestions!
tldr: make polls p2w, yes or no?

I'm planning on posting the suggestions thread next week, then the poll itself another 1-2 weeks after that.

2024-08-27 10:26:53 +0000 UTCI also love this idea. Making the polls pay2win might not solve the problem anyway. Just sounds like an opportunity to pressure people into paying more for the same amount of rewards.

2024-08-12 20:37:03 +0000 UTCI don't like the idea of people who can afford to pay more getting more influence. I'd like to suggest perhaps a semi-regular "best of the rest" vote, or maybe a system where the top three get done, in order of most to least popular?

2024-08-12 15:41:50 +0000 UTCCan you make people have separate votes on every character but can't repeat the same answer? Let's say you have '' I want it to win '', '' I don't mind it winning '', '' don't know the character '', '' shouldn't win'' etc for how many characters there are, that'll make it clearer for the second spot

2024-08-12 14:26:16 +0000 UTCHonestly, I'm not sure how this would solve the problem you've posed. Usually, I see it solved by having the next several not quite winners go into a separate pool and every once in a while, have the poll be for the secondary bracket composed of only the highly voted losing characters. The first couple of runner ups are then carried over to the next pool and the rest are dismissed.

2024-08-12 03:12:16 +0000 UTCI dislike the idea of weighted votes, it makes it feel like my vote as a Tier 1 patron is wasted on characters I like when a Tier 2 or Tier 3 can eliminate the effects of my vote and still put their character ahead by 3 or 8 points. I think a better solution would be to limit the number of characters that appear on each poll. The previous poll (#60) had 12 characters and 1,560 votes. Only 7 of the 12 got enough votes to put them over the 'even split' mark of 130 votes and the winner had almost quadruple the votes of last place. Another solution I've seen a different artist do is make it so second place reappears on the poll next month and then after so many second-place finishes that character automatically becomes the winner.

2024-08-12 01:58:59 +0000 UTCCould also run a chaotic poll where like the 2-3rd lowest on the poll gets put against first in a separate poll

2024-08-12 01:50:17 +0000 UTCI like this idea, gives hope to less popular characters who only get a few votes each round but can eventually accumulate enough votes over time to outpace the more popular characters. Also means that if patrons stay subbed long enough and consistently cast their vote for that character then eventually that character will win.

2024-08-12 01:41:25 +0000 UTCI agree, I was thinking 1,2,3 but at the very least 2,5,10 seems way to much.

2024-08-12 01:39:36 +0000 UTCAnother poll method I have seen is a Running Tally. Where characters keep their votes from previous polls, and you produce whichever character has the highest current total. Characters come off only once they have been done, or have remained in last place X months in a row.

2024-08-12 01:25:00 +0000 UTCI’m just not sure how this helps the less popular characters win. I’m pretty indifferent otherwise.

2024-08-12 01:08:14 +0000 UTCAs a tier 3, I can't say I don't like the arrangement, but having 5x the voting power of a tier 1 feels a bit much. Maybe 2-4-8?
