Behind-The-Scenes: Chainsaw Man

Here's my thoughts on the Chainsaw Man video!

Like I mention in the video, I read all of Chainsaw Man and just fell in love immediately. So the second I caught up to the manga, I started writing the video, and everything went from there. I've also been rewatching Casey Neistat vlogs, which was a surprisingly huge source of motivation. I highly recommend binging them if you want to be motivated to create.

The video itself was very fun. Both to make and to watch once completed. I wanted something quicker and more energetic to drum up hype for the show, and also because I wouldn't be able to make my typical 30 minute deep-dive without spoiling something. (Though I did still end up deep-diving into the show's creators and learning a bunch about them and Fujimoto)

Editing

Editing the video was mostly similar to my previous ones. Chop up the voice over and cut out silences and bad takes. Download as much footage as I can and put it on top. Sync up some music and re-edit some bits around it. I continued using text on screen from my Horror Games video because I just really like how it looks. Tried to up my game by using Track Matte Keys to get that cool background video cutout effect.

The hardest part, by far, was just how little footage there is of Chainsaw Man. I mean the anime isn't out yet, after all. So I had to scrape the trailer, lots of fan animations (the CSM fanbase is so talented), some animated wallpapers, and even a jewelry store collab video. Then I reused as much of it as possible to cover the whole video, while trying to make sure it wasn't horribly repetitive.

Still had to cut out some bits for time though. Had a whole segment about how Fujimoto's assistants went on to make their own manga, including Spy X Family and Hell's Paradise, as well as some other extra snippets of info I couldn't work into the final cut.

Thoughts

I was a tad worried about copyright claims, but as of yet there's nothing on it, so I don't think anything I used is being policed by Content ID that hard. Hopefully it stays that way. I know some companies (*cough* Warner Bros *cough*) that will delete the whole video if you use even a second of footage from a trailer.

Overall I'm happy with how it turned out. I hope that anyone unfamiliar with Chainsaw Man is turned onto it by the video, and anyone who's already read it can get some enjoyment out of all the easter eggs I put in.
