With the Emperor down, I could turn my focus to other matters. My pets had been doing fine on their own, of course, but I was the powerhouse in this scenario, due to the type advantage. I rolled over the display table separating me from the remaining warrior. Landing lightly on my feet, I slashed out with my blade, and the unconscious warrior fell to the floor.
Bloodmoon spread her wings, and flew up, over the console bank separating the innermost section from the third ring, landing next to one of the leaders. “The Bloody Moon shines upon you!” As she spoke the incantation, a burst of crimson from her scepter lashed out, lifting the leader up and throwing them back, through the air, until they hit the wall of the inner section with a thud. Not out of the fight, but away from their allies. Easy prey.
Foxtrot disappeared in a burst of blue flame, only to reappear next to one of the remaining leaders. Instead of raking them with her claws, however, she opted for another attack, one more certain to bypass their defenses. Her hands made signs representing death and decay, as she intoned, “Norowareta tamashī yo, nanji no niku o nanji no shūi de kusarase yo.” And then, she touched the leader’s chest, and he began to visibly wither. That spell was a death sentence, unless someone managed to stun her before it ran to completion. Even then, the damage to the victim’s BODY wouldn’t return that quickly.
Stolen Victory continued her assault on the leader she’d been attacking, and shook her head ruefully when the lizard finally went down. “I am going to have to look into improving my attacks, it seems. It shouldn’t take me so long to deal with these vermin.”
Serafina laughed as she copied Bloodmoon by flying to the third ring. “Don’t be like that, Victory. You are a defender, not a striker. You need only avoid defeat until your opponent falls, or your teammates join you!” Then, her eyes turned to one of the Leader Caste, and she unleashed her spell once more. “Sinners in the eyes of God, suffer His Holy Wrath!” Unfortunately, or, perhaps, as expected, the leader was still standing in the spell’s wake.
Titania growled as she brought her blade down upon the Leader Caste she’d been fighting once again, and, this time, the lizard went down. “Serafina’s right, Victory. These Leader Caste are strong. Taking them down is not something one can easily do. Though we may look into getting the ability to apply different effects to some of our weapons, to take advantage of weaknesses.”
Pyra pulled her fist back, telegraphing her blow as flames gathered around her fist. It didn’t matter, though, as she threw a haymaker with her Flaming Fist attack, catching the Warrior who’d charged her on the side of their face. The powerful attack sent the Warrior to the floor, grievously wounded and unconscious. “Less talking, more taking out the trash! We don’t want them to get any reinforcements, after all!”
The leader closest to Serafina stepped towards her, blade in hand. The angelic healer was not the best melee combatant, and it showed, as the blade caught her in the side. However, that was all it did, since it didn’t even manage to make it through her costume’s armor. The healer of a group might not be the best attacker, but they should always be one of the hardest individuals to take down.
The leader that Bloodmoon catapulted into the inner area pulled themself off the wall, and pointed his blaster at me. I wasn’t quick enough to avoid the disintegration beam, but that didn’t matter. My ice armor helped protect me from the blast.
Bloodmoon and Foxtrot also received attacks from the Leader Caste closest to them. Bloodmoon’s armor warded off her blade, while Foxtrot received only a small bruise from her attacker. Without numbers on their side, this was looking like a foregone conclusion.
FX and Web Mistress both unleashed attacks on the Leader caste attacking Serafina. However, both the Soundblast and the attack from Web Mistress’s blaster missed the Leader. Not surprising, since they were the two weakest combatants in Devastation, with talents better suited to other things.

I wasn’t going to just let some lizard shoot at me without a bit of payback, naturally. Darting forward, I slashed with my blade, and the Leader Caste fell, unconscious. That was fine, though. They wouldn’t wake before it was all over, which was all that mattered.
Bloodmoon whirled on the Leader that slashed at her. Once more, a blade of bloody crimson light emerged from the tip of her scepter as she swung it like a sword. “The Bloody Moon will punish you! Bloodmoon Blade!” And the blade cut deep. Not so deep as to fell the lizard, but certainly enough to put it on the back foot.
The downside to Foxtrot using her Wounding Touch spell on the Leader she was fighting was that she couldn’t switch to her other magic attacks while it was active. Which was not to say that she was helpless while waiting for the lizard’s death to catch up to it. Ducking down, she balanced on one hand and foot as her other foot swept out, catching the lizard on the back of their knee, and sending them tumbling to the ground. All while the withering spread.
Stolen Victory turned away from the fallen lizards around her, and flew to the aid of Serafina. As she landed, her blade swung down, and caught the lizard on the crown of their head. The blade cut deep, but not mortally. Even so, the lizard fell to the ground at the woman’s feet.
“Sinners in the eyes of God, suffer His Holy Wrath!” With the Leader Caste closest to her dealt with, Serafina turned, and blasted the one Bloodmoon had set rocking back on their heels. Unable to defend themselves properly, the lizard crumpled under the holy light of Serafina’s attack, out of the fight, for the moment.
“Free hits on bozos!” Titania laughed as her rocket boosters carried her across the room to land next to Foxtrot. Her Mechasaber cut down on the prone Leader caste, and ensured that the last of the actual threats would not be getting back up.
Pyra looked around, a ball of fire held in one hand, ready to throw at the first sign one of the Worker Caste were going to do anything other than run away. She didn’t need to do a thing, however, as the cowardly lizards knew better than to try and fight a group that could overcome their Emperor and so many Warriors and Leaders in just eight seconds.
I took a breath, and said, “Web Mistress, what are the stats on this bunker? If we place the bomb here, will it have a suitable effect on the rest of the base?”
“No, the command center will contain much of the blast wave. You’ll get a nice shaped charge, and fallout will definitely coat the area, but other than that? Limited effects. We need to get outside for the best results. Same with your ‘bonus’. Unfortunately, if we go back into the digital landscape from here, there will be attack programs on us instantly. The Warrior I digitized was not an authorized program, after all, and set off the alerts. The building’s network is on lockdown.”
“Fine, we’ll do things the fun way,” I said, as I slashed down with my blade. The Emperor was only sleeping, technically, but I figured that taking his head to mount on my wall would not only solve that, but would also make an excellent way to throw any Gel-nak we passed on the way out into disarray. I liked multifaceted solutions like that.
