Chapter 251 – Overseas
With a swirl of smoke, I appeared in my mortal avatar next to my shrine in Silver Mercy’s dungeon. This, naturally, surprised the few people in the area. There were a few visitors who came to look at the shrine that had just appeared months back, and was now known to be a shrine to a new god. However, I was happy to see that there was one person in prayer as I manifested.
The kid was short, and a bit overweight. Of course, there weren’t really all that many people in Japan who got truly fat, by American standards, but the kid was definitely not athletic, and you could see the pudginess on him. And, if I wasn’t mistaken, he was wearing a high school uniform.

As the kid looked up at me, I could see that he was showing signs of having been in a fight recently. The bruising of a black eye was starting to show, the eye itself swollen mostly shut, and one of his arms hung limply by his side. These were injuries that should have gone away with healing magic, which meant no one had spared a healing spell for the kid. At the same time, his uniform looked clean, and pressed, so someone had cleaned up after the beating.
And it had to be a beating. While the System made judging books by their covers a dangerous prospect at times, I did not think that this kid looked like the type to actually be fighting. He did, however, look like an easy target for bullies.
“Well, my child, what can I do for you?”
The boy looked up at me, wide-eyed. It took him a couple moments to find the words, but when he spoke, I was glad for the System translating things for me. It wasn’t even a listed spell or ability, even. I just naturally understood any language used by one of my followers, and they understood my words in their own tongue. It was obvious, when you thought about it. After all, how can a god respond to prayers if they can’t understand them?
“Lord Kuronoth! I never expected you to come directly! Please, great lord, give me the strength to fight back against the bullies that did this to me!”
I nodded slowly. “You know that my domain is not strength, or force of arms, yes? If you are asking for my power, then that will be the power of domination, and of pleasure. Is that what you wish? Know that there will be a price to be paid.”
The boy nodded, and said, “I am willing to pay anything. Just give me my revenge!”
“Well, now, how can I say no to that?” I smiled, and said, “Tell me more about these bullies, and your school, so I know how best to help you in your revenge.”
I found out that he went to a public high school, and he was a freshman. Unfortunately, before the Apocalypse, he had been a nerd and an otaku. After the Apocalypse, things didn’t get any better. While his class was, technically, a spellcaster, it was one more focused on research and support than anything else, and so he wasn’t able to get many levels.
Because of this, he was picked on in school, where everyone was stronger than he was. Typical high school crap, really. Shun those who don’t fit in, so that you don’t stick out. Basically, they made his life miserable, but now with magic as well as their pre-System abilities.
That was what had driven him to me. I nodded once, and produced a contract, along with a pen. “Sign here, my child, and we can begin. I will give you all that you need to fulfill your desires, and make your enemies suffer.”
Without even bothering to read, the young man signed the contract. That wasn’t unexpected. Life had a way of driving people against the wall. Some could change their lives, and many held on to whatever scraps of happiness they found like a lifeline. But eventually, people broke inside. When that happened, they either sank into depression and despair, or they cried out in rage, looking to make others suffer, as they had suffered.
Ietsuna was the latter. I could see it in his eyes. He wanted payback, and he wanted revenge. He wanted to make others crawl in the dirt, because they had kicked him when he was down. He no longer cared what the price might be.
Of course, he wasn’t the only person in a situation like that who had made a deal with me. In fact, most of those who had made deals with me had been in similar situations. After all, it took someone downtrodden and desperate to make a deal with a demon.
When he was done signing, I smiled, and used my dungeon powers to reproduce an object that had come into my possession when a party had pushed too far, and died. I held out the black tome to him, and said, “This is Black Bible is a book of spells and magic, dark and terrible. You will have to translate it from the original Latin, but, when you do so, you will find curses that will bring misfortune upon your enemies, and charms to cause those you desire to throw themselves at your feet. As an Archivist and a Scholar, I trust that this task is not beyond you.”
Wide-eyed in wonder, the boy took the book, and clutched it to his chest. “I understand. I will begin studying it immediately, as soon as I get home!”
“That is good. Because you will need to be quick, if you are to pay the price.” He looked up at me, and I smiled. “The power to make all your darkest desires come true is not free, after all.”
“What must I do?”
“I slipped a piece of paper in that tome, detailing a ritual. You will need to use your newfound knowledge and power to set it up, but I have faith in your abilities. It should not take you too long to discern how to set things up.
“The ritual should be set up so that your entire school is encompassed in the circle. On the day that you set it off, you should convince any friends you have to stay home, as well as any ladies you have charmed, and wish to keep as your thralls. From that moment on, you will never again be bothered by any of those classmates and upperclassmen who attacked you.”
“The ritual… it will kill the entire school?”
I laughed at that. “No, my child. I am not some bloodthirsty psychotic. The ritual will kill no one. Instead, it shall transform the entire school. The school will become a dungeon, and those inside will be transformed into the dungeon’s creatures, and become sworn to my faith.”
The kid nodded. “And those I convince to stay home, they will be spared?”
“Indeed. But you are forbidden from explaining why they must stay home. You can try telling them that it is a result of your divinations, or you can capture them with magic, or with the capture balls that some have used in the past. But, if you tell anyone about the ritual, then the System will find you in breach of contract. I doubt you would like for that to happen.”
“No,” he shook his head. “I know you do not forgive those who break contracts with you. But I don’t have the money for capture balls.”
“Your learning with the Black Bible will allow you to enthrall some people. But, if you would save others, then I can offer capture balls to you. Bring to me ten of your female classmates, and I will give you ten capture balls. Those ten females will be forever lost to you, but you will be able to save ten of your friends, without raising the alarm.”
The boy frowned. “But, my school is in Tokamachi, in Niigata Prefecture. How will I get them to your shrine here in Kyoto? Our class is just here on a field trip!”
“You could also get them to the portal set up in Tokyo, since I have a shrine in that space as well.” I chuckled. “Of course, if you were looking for something closer to home, then you would need to create a shrine to me in your town.”
I opened my hand once more, and offered him a crystal. “Go to a park where there is no other shrine. Plant the crystal there, and make an offering of a human life to me. By the dawn, a shrine will be there, so that you can save those you wish. Hide the crystal and the Black Bible in your inventory, so that your enemies cannot take it from you.”
“Thank you, Lord Kuronoth! I will do all as you command!”
I smiled at him. “I know, my child. I know. You will play your part to perfection, I am sure. And, with the power you gain from dominating your classmates, friends, and family, you will never need to worry about being bullied again. You need not even worry about the consequences of your actions. When all has been done, simply take the train to Tokyo, along with your harem, and come through the portal.”
“Through the portal, my Lord?”
“Yes, from one portal to the next. You will be able to go anywhere in the world, start a new life, where no one knows you as you are now, but all respect and fear you for the man you will become. You could even become an adventurer, seeking fame and fortune in the different dungeons in the world, so that you could look through the tomes offered by the System Shop, and discover knowledge you never before thought possible. Better still, you could act as support, while your harem fights for you, seeking the reward of the pleasures you’ll provide them with.”
Ietsuna straightened up as I spoke and I could see a new resolve in his good eye. It was always incredible, to see the way the merest glimmer of hope could fan the flames in even the most downtrodden soul. And I had just shown him no mere glimmer, but a path, with concrete goals he could strive for. He would have to push himself, in order to accomplish those goals, but he had a goal, now, rather than just stumbling blind through the darkness.
With another bow, the boy quickly stored his new items in his inventory, and ran off. I chuckled as I watched him go. I didn’t know whether he would actually be able to accomplish his goals, but I knew that he would try. And he would spread my faith further through Japan, which was just fine with me.
“Do you think it was wise to do that?”
A puff of smoke revealed a silver-haired kitsune wearing the red and white of a shrine maiden, though it looked as though the back was altered, to allow her tail to poke through. The silver creature did not bear any weapons, but she did wear a golden rope coiled on one hip, and had a gourd decorated in purple, gold, and red on the other. Both gave off strong magical energy.
“About as wise as someone waltzing about with two of the five sacred treasures, in a place dedicated to one of their owners.”
The kitsune smirked. “So, you did a bit of research before you came, then. I’ll admit, I didn’t expect you to recognize the Gourd and the Rope.”
“Unlike some people, I do like to know what I’m getting into before leaping into another’s domain.”
“And yet you just decide to stir up chaos wherever you go, seemingly for your own amusement.”
“Ah, my dear Mercy. That little bit with the schoolkid was nothing more than a diversion. He will either try, and fail, or he will succeed. All I did was give him tools, and the will to use them. What he does with them is on his head.”
Silver Mercy’s avatar sighed. “Still the same as always, Pleasures. What am I going to do with you?”
“Oh, I’m sure I can think of some things.”
Comments
Just picked up into the black omnibus 8,now I can reread the whole story on my kindle in one go, excellent! Brilliant chapter, so wicked! I was getting worried for a moment there that he was going to leave his latest disciple hanging on the wind, which would be fitting, but would not help to encourage further deals, so good to see an option to get him out if he succeeds :) But what does he want with silver mercy, it seems he has an agenda... So glad this is back!
