I love how the animation tech has progressed so much... there was freaking dust particles floating in the light when Omega is in the animal pens.

2024-04-17 00:18:33 +0000 UTCThere is *some* wiggle room for both, but it depends on how you define "communicate". I just happened to be rewatching the Yoda arc from Clone Wars this past weekend and Qui-Gon's presence kinda lays it out on Dagobah in a way that is compatible with how Yoda describes the Force in ESB (as well as Kenobi in ANH). He describes a cycle: living beings feed into/power the Living Force, which feeds into/powers the Cosmic Force, which then communicates with the midichlorians inside lifeforms to help create life, which in turn we continue to feed back into the Living Force, and so on and so forth. So you have "created by all living things" feeding into that which "surrounds us" and then (via the midichlorians) "penetrates us", all together binding the universe together through that cycle.. So, in theory, they can be both a testable marker for one's Force ability, and a conduit for only certain facets of the Force ("communicating" [however you define it] with the Cosmic). But not necessarily the reason you are able to use the Force- at least the Living Force, and not necessarily the reason *why* you are able to communicate with the Cosmic Force- just the *how*. Of course, it does still complicate things more than the simple mythical descriptions of the classic trilogy. But George was going down the microscopic rabbit hole for one reason or another (as his proposed sequel trilogy outline would have gone into the micro world in much more detail).

In the OG trilogy Obi Wan told Luke the Force was an energy field that's made by life itself that is in everything. Ok, cool. Easy concept, kinda like magic, great. Then in the Prequels Qui Gon says the Midichloirans are tiny little microscopic life forms inside people and THEY give certain people access to the Force. It's went from some mystic thing to a biological science thing. That's the sticking point.
