House of the Dragon S1E01 Watch Along

Hey Peaches! A new beginning is here. Time to go back a few hundred years to see the House Targaryen tear itself apart. It's also time to attempt to recapture that old school GoT magic. You know, from the five good seasons of the show.  We had forgotten how real and brutal this universe is, but so far, this show is off to a great start.

House of the Dragon S1E01 Watch Along

Comments

I think the new Jon Snow show will fix the ending from GoT. At least I hope so

Trish Murphy

The edited version is posted on their YouTube.

Kristine Lindo Montes

I heard another reactor comment that same thing and I can definitely hear it!

Kristine Lindo Montes

You can have 6 streaming services for the price of cable. Take the rose tinted glasses off, that crap wasnt cheap.

Nimo-the-Red

Choux D Bruxelles

Well, this is the one that got me to signup for all the burps and farts, I better get burps and farts.

Keevee Venegas

Me too! Happy I’m not the only newbie!

“RED ALERT!” Poor Jay - I was worried about you making through those C-section scenes. Honestly though I’m glad they were in there and I’m glad they were graphic - this truly shows how birthing children is just as if not more horrific as a battlefield. Finally was able to make joining Patreon happen so I can see my favourite Internet Best Friends reactions to this show (and so much more). I’m loving this show so far & hope that it stays true to the hype it’s generated. Much Love From Canada (CdnPeach/CanadianPeach)

It's going to be rough watching these watch alongs using a pirated streaming service (HBO side not patreon side) but now way in hell Im paying 15 a month to add HBO when I only want 1 show. This whole unpacking cable didnt go as our parents planned and now instead of having multiple cable providers we have multiple streaming services and its only gotten more expensive. Yikes.

Jonathan Frederick

I noticed the "childbed is our battlefield" comment on my second watch. You're definitely right about the foreshadowing, and it was definitely a purposeful switch between the birthing and the tourney scenes.

Garrett Mazzuca

Solid first episode. It's just sad that all of these events will lead to a disappointing conclusion. The original GoT ending is so corrosive to this prequel. If I were to "fix it," I would make a Jon Snow focused sequel. Goes beyond the Wall to discover the Night King's forces still remain and the Night King's spirit still lives. He has to return to Westeros to prepare them for the true Long Night. They could make the Long Night as terrifying as it should have been originally, and at the same time make good on the prophecies they teased in the original series.

Garrett Mazzuca

Man does it feel good to be back in Westeros! I know the bigger story of what's going to happen, because I read Fire & Blood. But since that book covers hundreds of years of Targaryen history told by very subjective sources, it's great to watch the show and to experience it in that much detail. And yes the birth scenes were brutal af, but the way they cut back and forth between that and the tournament was great. The celebretory fight for the new son and the very real fight for the life of the son (was that a bit of forshadowing when Aemma said "the childbed is our battlefield"?!). Amazing first episode, I can't wait to see more!

Martinbumms

When is season 1 of "Discovery Brothers"

remain_maax

What a great first episode. Great casting and god damn if I didn't know any better I'd say Warner Bros has actual Dragons. Outstanding CGI

Carlton

Agreed. Daemon isn't a nice guy by any stretch of the imagination, but his love for his family is sincere. The brothers really do love each other, and it's sad.

Bethlee Swanson

i've not read the book, but i truly believe that hightower is the real villain. daemon has his own (very violent) methods, but you can tell he really loves his brother and niece... the scene when hightower is reporting what daemon said in the brothel ("heir for a day"), the show is very meticulous in how/ when they show what daemon says vs. what hightower relays. you see in that whole time daemon is actually said. it's only when his men and mistress tell him to make a speech that he puts on this act. i think everything that daemon says his brother in the throne room is his truth and said in his most sincere way, but as a violent, impatient person (and targaryen!), he can't help but only say it in his way. ah! so excited for the rest of this season!

Connie Tsang

Lol I can assure you the Lannisters were rank amateurs when it comes to incest when compared to the Targaryens. They were nigh on virgins in it relative to this family. The dragons didn't even bother to hide it.

Chris

It’s honestly great to use all of this Westeros knowledge for something. I completely forgot I knew anything. It made it that much more enjoyable.

HQB

Does anyone else think Matt Smith's voice sounds too similar to Ramsey Bolton's?? I cant not hear it lol

Jenna Antonelli

Couple things: 1. Criston Cole is from the Stormlands, but is Half-Dornish in the show. His father is a steward for House Dondarrion. 2. We did have a Targaryen unite the Realm against the White Walkers — Jon Snow

LuxLoser

I will see you at a different show ... choosing not to watch this one ... not my kind of show

Choux D Bruxelles

I agree about how violent the birth was and wondering if it wasn't meant to be seen as a comment on lack of women's autonomy. Based on a Hollywood Reporter article about the show with the creatives and stars I think they were intentional to a degree about showing what birth was like prior to modern medicine. I'm not sure if what they did actually opens any eyes or just ends up existing as torture porn.

Loved this reaction, it totally validated all of the feels I was feeling throughout this ep! One thing that I just wanted to add was that the birthing bed scene very much was shot and came across like an SA scene. The horror of that scene was not that she died in childbirth. It was that she had no agency in the decisions being made about her body, which were life and death kinds of decisions. As a woman, it was almost impossible to watch that scene because of the horror of it, but as I've sat with it for a bit, I find it an interesting visual representation of some of the arguments in today's climate about women's bodily autonomy. Not sure if that was meant textually by the writer/director, but that's what has stuck with me about that scene. I'm cautiously optimistic about this show (listen, we were burned before by GoT, I'm prepared to be burnt again), but am UNCAUTIOUSLY excited about your guys' ep of Fix It dropping tomorrow!! Can't wait to listen!!

Gretchen Badger

Seriously, I was aggressively not okay and it was even harder to watch Jay’s reaction. That stuff was way too much for me.

Jason Marbach

The birth scene damn near lost me permanently on this show in the first ep. Been thinking about Jay all day waiting to see if he’s okay

Jason Marbach

I also had to avert my eyes several times during the episode🫣. I’ve been calling this show House of Incest, you know, because of all the incest. 😆 Just look at the Targaryen family tree.

Suzanne Ani

New patron here, will there be a cutdown reaction on Patreon or just the full watch along?

Archit Chopra

I think a dragon will die first and it will be horrific

quirkygeekgirl

My first watch along, loved it! Good first episode!
