The Wheel of Time S1E08 Watch Along

Hey Peaches!!!  We've reached the....well it's not the end as season 2 is already being filmed.....rest stop....save point, the end of the beginning....of The Wheel of Time. This last episode was....interesting. The story went in a few new directions from the book where it needed to, and a few that we'll have to wait and see if they pay off next season. After, what we thought, was a strong first season, this episode was kind of an anomaly. It felt like the ending of Dune Part 1, it just kinda stopped. Either way we can't wait for next season, cause Jay has to learn about who those people were on those ships.....

I personally wasn't too disappointed by this finale but I was expecting more of an "end of Act 1" instead of a big final battle. I'd call this a "mid-season cliffhanger" finale. I'm definitely into the universe they built so I'll be back for Season 2.

I agree I’m pretty positive she will get her power back near end of season 2

Finishing first book now as I really enjoyed the show. Man there’s many places and characters I wish we could of seen. I agree with Adam this ending felt weak but hopefully season 2 is longer and stronger. In the scene where moraine is cut off from the source by the dark one. You can see she is shielded like how logaine was earlier. She will get the power back in season 2 I’m sure.

So i haven't read the books either and i have to say i kinda like the tv show but it hasn't hooked me enough to want to watch it without you guys. I even waited to watch the last episode until your reaction was out. Also i'm so confused sometimes and i understand like half the things so thank you Adam for explaining some things. But i look forward to watch more if you guys keep reacting to it! 😄 On another note. What is it with TV shows and Movies these days beings so dark you can't see anything. I rewatched LotR again during christmas and like... you can do it without being super dark 😅

Yep though the way it’s described you have to visualize it properly to realize that because it doesn’t use words like “skyscrapers” it describes them. The wheel of time is actually a post-apocalyptic setting!

Messed up below comment was ment as a response to you. I think you will find it illuminating ;)

If you recall that’s what was supposed to happen at the last battle but then as moraine said at the end of the episode it turns out that this was not the last battle it was the first! If they are able to finish the story I think you will be satisfied🤗

so i havent read the books, but im positive about the show. i feel like they kinda had to rush a bit too much with only 8 episodes. the one thing im a little sad about is that the fight in the final episode of the season wasnt what i was expecting. i was kinda expecting a showdown between 2 forces of nature and anyone else close to that fight would be crushed by their sheer power, or at least thats how it was sold earlier in the season.

Yeah notably the last episode apparently had to be changed drastically. Apparently among the issues with the pandemic is that they could not return to certain locations and that a lot of the stunt people who knew how to operate the trolloc costumes were unavailable, which is why most of the trollocs here were cgi. For example the scene with the five channeling woman was obviously on a green screen. It was obvious we were supposed to have a more complex battle at the gap and then at the city instead. Also very obviously mat was supposed to confront padan fain not Perrin. If you listen to fains speach and also the fact that mat interacted with fain in the first episode and fain had the dagger it makes so much more sense if it was mat. Perrin was probably supposed to join the fight on the walls and maybe have the wolves show up as the cavelry at the last minute which would have been much more epic. Also I know for the blight they were supposed to go to an actual creepy forest I think in Costa Rica but couldn’t because of Covid. So if the team is given like 10 episodes for season 2 and can deal with any Covid stuff I think it can be great. I just hope the finale didn’t kill it for too many people.

I feel this show suffered a ton from the pandemic, between Matt's actor vanishing, having to rewrite entire arcs around social distancing and travel restrictions, and Amazon clearly not wanting to give them any more time in post. They desperately needed another 3-6 months for polish (and 1 or 2 more episodes as well).

The books are very explicit that the Age of Legends were High-tech with skyscrapers, flying cars (they are called jocars in the books) and everything.
