Perfect Situation is the most overrated Weezer single, especially for a song that's supposed to be one of the "good ones" off Make Believe. It's just as soulless and generic as Beverly Hills, while not even being at the very least catchy, or even good in a live setting. The chorus is completely nothing. Make Believe has it's moments, but none of those moments are on Perfect Situation.

2024-10-27 00:08:48 +0000 UTCI remember you speaking on music that has no personality or identity would you say Billy Joel falls into that problem because going back into his catalog he did branch out into other genres but I feel he didn't really add anything to it in meaning stand out vocals ,interesting production ect

2024-10-17 02:06:17 +0000 UTCMudvayne's album L.D. 50 REALLY deserves to be In the conversation of Nu Metal that still holds up today. I rarely see this band or album mentioned, despite them being this perfect blend between the elements that appeal to people about bands like Korn or Slipknot. Seemingly they've been largely forgotten, and I think that's really unfortunate. There's some fantastic music across their catalogue, but L.D. 50 specifically I believe deserves more recognition.

2024-10-15 12:50:44 +0000 UTCWhy is it that Radiohead, being potentially the single most well-loved and celebrated bands in the music snob circle, doesn't get nearly as much traction for their non-studio album b-sides, off-hand singles and EPs? Everybody recognizes that the deep cuts on OK Computer and In Rainbows are incredible, but are we really just going to forget that songs like I Promise, The Amazing Sounds of Orgy, Harry Patch and MANY more even exist, let alone hold up on that same level? Seriously, how can a band be so overhyped and underrated at the same time?

2024-10-11 19:36:59 +0000 UTCDanny L Harle is one of the most underrated producers working today. he was PC Music's secret weapon from the jump, he's Caroline Polachek's go-to producer, and he's just made incredible electronic pop music across a wide array of sub-genres with an amazing ear for melody and texture.

2024-10-11 11:31:51 +0000 UTCRecency bias is prevalent in all reviewing cites. Letterboxd, Rotten Tomatoes are good examples outside of the music realm. Happens all the time. In a year from now most of those ratings will stagnate, and distance will ultimately clear the air

2024-10-10 22:38:56 +0000 UTCBlack Midi isn’t really broken up, they’re just focusing on solo material. “Indefinite hiatus” is fairly unofficial in my eyes, and leaves the window open for future releases, just not likely in the foreseeable future.

2024-10-10 06:26:05 +0000 UTCPeople need to learn about more bassists than just the same three guys. Every time there’s discourse over “who’s the best bassist of all time” it’s always just people saying Flea, Les Clayool, Geddy Lee etc. Like how is Joe Lally not a household name? Or Shavo? Ament? Commerford? I could go on. There are more than three good bassists in rock!

2024-10-10 04:59:36 +0000 UTCWhat, for you, is the weirdest or most annoying fandom and/or pattern of behavior on RYM? For me, it's a three-way battle between the weirdly feral Mach-Hommy, Billy Woods, and Black Mid (and now Geordie Greep) fans. EDIT: I love all three, but all their stuff shoots to the top of the ranking charts immediately upon release, and sometimes even before that and I don't get what it is about specifically these three that make people go wild like that.

2024-10-10 00:09:59 +0000 UTCC,XOXO isn’t nearly as bad and unlistenable as people make it out to be. For whatever reason it’s just cool and trendy to make fun of Camilla Cabello for breathing. And it just so happens that when she puts out a mediocre-at-worst album that only slightly takes inspiration from one of the most on-fire acts this year, people completely over-exaggerate and pretend that she’s the worst thing to ever happen to music. Not even in the bottom 5 worst pop releases this year

2024-10-09 23:23:24 +0000 UTCThere is not an artist right now that is currently finding that balance between mainstream appeal and yet also pushing boundaries for what music can be. In past decades, there has always been an artist like this (Beatles in the 60s, Bowie in the 70s, Prince in the 80s, Kanye, Radiohead, etc.). It seems like this decade, artists are making music more for their own fan bases rather than finding that balance of breaking ground musically while still being mainstream and popular. It makes me wonder if or when we will get an artist again that is at the center of pushing music forward while also being very popular in the mainstream.

2024-10-09 22:48:34 +0000 UTCWeen is one of the 10 or 15 greatest American rock groups of all time. They’re the real spiritual successors to artists like Frank Zappa - quirky music with real heart, undeniable hooks, and GREAT vocals and instrumentation. They’re one of the greatest bands of all time.

2024-10-09 20:40:10 +0000 UTCMerch at shows needs to be cheaper. I realize it's the best stream of revenue for touring musicians, but 60 dollars for a shirt and 100 dollars for a poster is fuckin nuts. It really makes it hard to be a loyal fan when you feel like you're getting screwed over. There's got to be a better way for bands to make a profit without jacking up merch prices to astronomical levels.

2024-10-09 18:49:53 +0000 UTCChino Moreno’s up-close moany voice has aged atrociously. The edgy-lustful vocal style reeks of the era it was born out of in worst way. Whenever I hear it, it just makes me think of angry mall goth kids putting matches out on their tongue in the skate park and I hate it. If you fuck with that vibe though, all power to ya ig.

They’re physical exclusive for a reason and I don’t wanna have to sit through 7-8 minutes of silence for a 1 minute section of a song that isn’t as good as the rest of the album. 2024-10-09 18:28:26 +0000 UTC[Forgive the 'topical' take but it's been on my mind for a while] Chester was easily the best thing about Linkin Park and replacing him was an awful idea. Even if they didn't choose Emily, it would've been poorly received. I'm not saying they should NEVER EVER tour again; that'd be impossible to prevent and we have no way of knowing what Chester would've wanted. But there were better ways they could've gone about it. I feel like it would've been smarter to either continue with just Mike on vocals, or (if they absolutely HAD TO replace Chester), they should've done a New Order style band name change.

2024-10-09 18:23:58 +0000 UTCA lot more UK artists are gonna become more prominent/popular in the US as in 2024 a lot more US artists have collabed with people from across the pond. Central Cee, Giggs, Dsavv from OFB and Nemzzz linking with 41 out of New York etc. That bridge just needs to be crossed a bit more both ways.

2024-10-09 18:15:19 +0000 UTCI'll just copy paste mine from last month. "Yes' albums with the guitarist Trevor Rabin, from 1983's 90125 to 1994's Talk, deserve much more recognition as managing to perfect the prog sensibilities of Yes in a commercial context. And of course, 90125 and Talk also deserving recognition production wise with the former defining the sound of the '80s and the latter for being one of the first albums to be completely recorded to and edited on a computer. " A more elaborate response is on the previous thread.
