ALright Boomer.... Alright is just the same as hello.

Funny you should say it's a british thing to greet people with "Alright" when you started the video by greeting the audience with "Alright peeps"

That's interesting. I don't hear it often up in the North. In fact , I can't really remember hearing it. Though I probably have from time to time.

I love the fact Deano was the only one that laughed at the Owain Hughes joke because he's the only one that learnt how to speak Welsh

I'd say "alright mate" as a greeting to someone I don't know, the mate in lieu of their actual name. Once name is established say "craig" it would be "alright craig" etc

I get the complaint about it being sad but I think it’s meant to be a more realistic view of relationship than some other programs. I do understand it tho

I say alright all the time. One example of when u probably shouldn't use it would be in a job interview. It's probably abit unprofessional or too "slangy" in some settings.

Alright is basically like "how's it going?" for you guys.
I don't think it's so common in Scotland.
It's much more common to say "Ah right pal?” or "Howye’dae’n?" (how you doing?), here, at least in the north.

Honestly Boomer, if you're a dumbass for not realizing what happened at the end of the last episode, then so am I. Their reactions are INDEED so sombre and dramatic, it really made me think that something like a death happened too.

By the way boomer just cause people are going to bring it up, Dianne Morgan (phil cunk) did say in an interview with Steven Colbert (though rather hesitantly and not very convincingly) that the participants knew it was a comedy show but to me it was just her appropriately not giving up the magic ingredient of how it was done ie what misdirection was used. Also she was just politely allowing the participants in the show to look less stupid after the fact (less likely to get sued then as well).

I have no idea why you think they would just go along with that and just let themselves be made fools of. I know Diane Morgan said something similar in an interview but that's because you don't give up your secret ingredient. And she was just saying that so that the participants felt less stupid after the fact. Let's likely to get sued as well. Though some of the participants would've ultimately been good sports.

I think you’ve got some crossed wires - they know it’s a comedy show but are told to treat her as if she’s a child, not that it’s for a children’s show

"Alright" as a greeting makes me think of Karl Pilkington! I don't know anyone who really says "hello" as a greeting in real life, it's always "hi", "hey", "alright?", "you ok?" etc. There isn't much of a formal vs informal way of talking anymore, except in the upper classes maybe. Most people address complete strangers in a casual manner.

I guess you didn't recognise Louise as the girl Fingers has sex with during Gavin & Stacey's wedding in season 1 - they're the couple that high five afterwards! Saying that, one thing I do like about the show is how not everything is spelt out for you, like why it was "Gary, not Simon, obviously" or why Stacey's friend always carries a pregnancy test after "you know". Normally a TV show would feel the need to give context for everything being said, but this just feels more realistic.

Props to the music compiler for this episode, that selection of electropop songs in the nightclub scenes (Gossip, La Roux, Little Boots, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Girls Aloud, Freemasons feat. Sophie Ellis-Bextor) really convey a zeitgeist, as well as still being top notch tunes more than 15 years on!

I'm English but my Grandparents used to live in North Wales (in a lovely part of Snowdonia National Park). As a kid, I always remember being confused the moment I flicked on the S4C channel. 😂
Edit: Just to add. Balls to any English taking the piss, especially the ones living in your country. I hope you tell them to f*ck off!

Nope, not a stupid criticism. I really like Gavin and Stacey, but watching back to back episodes in a short period of time can be fatiguing. Similar to Bottom (which I love), if you watch them in proximity, you tend to see how formulaic they can be.

LOL like I said last time, just because I don't laugh at every single joke does not mean that I didn't like them or found them unfunny. Lol I swear I have to get some cue cards and hold them up for every joke or else some people think I'm brain dead. Nessa is my favorite character by far mate.

"Alright?" is just a contracted form of "are you alright?" or "How are you doing?". Most working class people and certainly people on benefits just say "Alright?" but with the latter it's more like "awite mate you sell loto tickets mate"? (Though I'm on benefits at the moment so I can't talk really).

I've always liked the show but I agree some episodes do follow the trend of having the sombre cliffhanger, worked better when it was on TV every week rather than streaming

Barry is in South Wales, only pockets of the South have a lot of Welsh speakers. I live in the North of Wales were certain areas have a huge amount of Welsh speakers, 85% in Caernarfon and 65% in the county of Gwynedd. About 29% can speak some Welsh in Cardiff. We have our own TV channel (S4C), all of its output is in the Welsh language, and most children learn Welsh at school. There is a bi-lingual policy in many parts of Wales, for example to get a teaching job in the area I'm in you have to be bi-lingual or show evidence of learning the language. People have fought for the language, some have gone to prison and although the majority of the English take the piss (especially, sadly, those that live here), it's very important to us. I've barely heard my parents speak English, they are modern well adjusted intelligent people, but converse with family and friends in their native tongue.

Hey boomer this is unrelated but I'm never sure if you read the youtube comments but Philomena Cunk's guests DON'T KNOW its a comedy show, I think they're told it's an educational show for kids and even, though I'm not totally sure of this, it might just be implied, that she has some sort of condition (like autism or something) and that's why the guests are trying to be so patient etc. I'm sure some of them have said afterwards "I knew it was a joke" cause they're embarrassed how they looked but there's no way people would just let themselves look that stupid knowingly. You should watch whole episodes though. Clips are rubbish.
