The questionable "antics" befriending a 15 year old, hiring them when they became legal, sleeping with them and paying them a 6 figure sum of money.
How does he try save face during all of this? By coming out as gay and using it as a distraction from the "rumors".

The line I only thought about recently through these reactions, was when Malcolm talked about the "rumours on Huw Edwards"

"Hello, Phillip Schofield, I f*** lobsters for money."
Brilliant line and that joke has gone on an unexpected journey. At the time of this series 3 (2009) Philip Schofield, in the public perception, was a prime-time TV presenter/personality, and I am sure I recall at the time, his reputation was clean cut. So this joke was super funny at the time because of that.
But then life imitates art... and recently he became disgraced because of some questionable 'anticts'.
So that joke was extremely funny then and has accidentally become even funnier now.
Armando Iannucci is a genius, and who knows what he knew at the time!!

David Haig is absolutely awesome in that show, King Boomer would definitely love that character!

A quick precis of the real world political landscape between season's 3 & 4. Labour lost the general election, The tories got the most seats but didn't have a majority so formed a coalition government with the Liberal Democrats. The Labour Party was expected to elect David Miliband (Who Dan Miller is sort of based on) as their new leader as he was seen as charismatic and Tony Blair like but instead they elected his brother Ed who turned out to be pretty bad at the job.

I was going to comment similar. It is like he got to rant and use all the words his character in Thin Blue Line would have liked to use

I think in nearly every scene Julius is in, he's obsessing over food of some sort. This scene in particular is brilliant.

I own a couple of Malcolm's "Snuggly Fleece". They were part of Sainsbury's TU clothing range, which is indicative of the budget for this show.
Anyway, if you like Tom Holland, may I recommend watching "Rev"?

The Thick of It - arguably the best ever made and I'm so pleased to have found a way to enjoy these for the first time again... I'm very excited for the next season and the intensity remains high - bring it on...

Night manager is excellent but came out at start of the plague of great story and set up and full finish and wrap up in 5min. It was set up for second season that never came.,.. but seriously worth a watch. And if we are going serious then you need the original Between the lines from bbs in 90's not the woke 20's version thats blood brilliant. lots of stuff on security services and their behaviour. That and the original house of cards....

Such a good show. There are so many brilliant high points in season 4, so very much looking forward to your reactions to that. The Thick of It is brilliant at introducing strong characters throughout the run of a season - Julius Nicholson, Steve Fleming, Jamie etc.
I know this is Armando Iannucci's show, but the role of Jesse Armstrong shouldn't be underestimated - the mighty Succession was the same - it takes multiple viewings to get all the good lines and jokes.

KB have you seen The Night Manager? It features Tom Hollander, Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman. I think it would be a great option for a non-comedy reaction.

Yes 'The Thin Blue Line' is a good, silly, non-expletive-ridden show from the 90's. Rowan Atkinson plays the uniformed chief inspector and David Haig (the unhinged Steve Fleming in TTOI) plays his equivalent old-school plain clothes (CID) detective chief. KB It's a show you and the Queen would like I think due to the silliness.

Lesson learnt KB, never attempt to ingest anything whilst watching this show because a funny line is never far away LOL. Yes Tom Hollander played a different character in this from what he played in the movie. Going forward try and remember the significance of the General Election being called in this episode and how it affects which side becomes the next Government and the characters.

Prediction @ 4.30 - This new guy turns out to be such an unbearable prick that they actually start to miss Malcolm and demand to have him back. My predictions usually aren't true, but I'll still give it a go.

Glorious. CHOO-FUCKING-CHOO!
David Haig is absolutely brilliant in this as Steve Fleming. Completely unhinged!
Well, on to S4 we go - and still so much greatness to come. A total joy to watch with you as always. I tire of saying that, but it needs to be said - you're great and I've loved all these journeys with you.

It's been said on the previous episode but you should react to The Thin Blue Line. It's got Rowan Atkinson and David Haig the guy who plays Steve Fleming here. He has a rant every episode but cleaner due to it being broadcast earlier lol
