Ron savored his dinner, which was made from the huge eggs Sue had laid a little while ago. She was looking at him expectantly.
"Well?" She asked shyly, "What do you think?"
"Honestly? They were delicious. I never thought eggs could taste so good,” Ron said still enjoying the taste. "Haven't you thought of selling them?"
“It crossed my mind sometimes but like I told you, my body reacts to certain needs. Unfortunately making money is not one of them,” Sue smiled.
After dinner, Ron began to secure the tent. "Damn, I can't find the plastic ties," he said in an annoyed tone.
"Wait, leave it to me," said Sue who took a few strands of hair from her ponytail. Using the nail of her index finger, which suddenly looked very sharp, she made a clean cut in her hair and gave it to Ron. "Use this".
Ron had heard that human hair could be used as a tie, but this hair was unique. It looked thicker, as well as had slightly elastic properties. Thanks to those strands, Ron was able to secure the tent just before nightfall.
The moonless night made the environment almost total darkness. The couple of co-workers chatted animatedly inside the tent. Ron could feel Sue's eyes twinkling in the dark, so he guessed that her eyes had mutated to cat-like ones.
"I guess you can see me pretty clearly," said Ron.
“Well... yes, I hope my eyes don't scare you,” Sue said.
"Not at all," Ron said in wonder. "I seriously find your mutation fabulous."
“I'm glad you like it. I always considered myself a freak. It's gratifying to know that someone finds it interesting,” said Sue. “Now we should sleep so we can take advantage of tomorrow. So, good night!”
"Totally agreed, good night" said Ron
In the morning, the friends headed to the lake after a good breakfast of eggs from Sue.
"Hey Sue? You have no problem eating your own eggs.” Asked Ron.
“At the start yes, but then I thought about it and realize that they are unfertilized eggs due to the nature of my mutation… honestly, I love their taste. I know, it sounds strange for me to say that..." she said shyly "...there are even times that I avoid buying food for breakfast to generate a situation where my body generates eggs, although I always produce a few… However, I cannot abuse that. I must consume food that does not come from my body or I will lose weight.”
"I understand... I can't blame you, your eggs are amazing," said Ron.
“If you like them so much, the next time I lay some, I'll share them with you at work…. just keep the secret please,” a blushing Sue said.
Upon reaching the lake, Ron tried to assemble his fishing equipment. He was a bit ashamed to admit that he had never gone fishing, not even when he was a little kid. Hours of watching videos on YouTube had not made the situation easier, and less when he could see Sue coming in a cute bikini into the water.
“The water feels so good!” Sue exclaimed, “I really thought it would be colder.”
"I think it's really cold," Ron replied, "your mutation may have activated."
"My mutation? I don’t think so..." Sue said but as soon as she raised her hand, she saw some scales on its back and webbed membranes between her fingers. She could also feel some gills on the side of her body. "Eh... yeah, my mutation was activated without me realizing it." They both laughed and joked about it.
After a couple of hours, Ron had completely failed to catch something. Repeatedly, he kept checking the fishing equipment he had rented, but without internet coverage, he could not really check on google what he was doing wrong.
“Damn…” he said reluctantly, “I haven't gotten anything Sue, I'm sorry. My lack of experience is being obvious”.
“Don't worry Ron,” Sue said, “I know you're trying… you know, I'm hungry already. I will try to catch something myself."
At these words, Ron's frustration gave way to curiosity. Would Sue undergo another change? Ron hurried to get into the water to get a better view of the change his friend’s body would display. Excitement made him handle the cold water a little better.
"I think I see one there," said Sue, "I'll catch it."
Suddenly, Ron saw Sue's neck lengthen dramatically as her head plunged into the water, right in the direction of a good-sized Trout. Sue's hair parted and pulled into a net shape that quickly caught the fish.
The image of Sue coming out of the water with a fish caught in her hair was somewhat comical, although Ron did not comment on it.
"Ron… ouch!" Sue said as the fish flailed behind her head, "Could you take it from here please?"
"Uh... yeah right," Ron hurried to pull the fish out of the hairnet. "That was really extraordinary."
Sue smiled flushed.
"Thank you!" She said enthusiastically, "Now let's go to camp, I'm starving!"
