MCU- CH-223. Remembering the memories
Added 2024-11-18 02:36:20 +0000 UTCThe continuous energy overload from the prism accelerator had pushed it into an extremely unstable state, yet Howard Stark refused to stop.
This device represented the key to unlocking humanity's future, a vision he held onto tightly. Success seemed tantalizingly close, and his obsession as a scientist began clouding his judgment.
Finally, when the energy output exceeded its maximum limit, the reactor core lit up brilliantly. But in the next instant, disaster struck.
A blinding flash erupted, and a massive energy explosion began consuming everything in its vicinity, expanding outward like a shockwave.
In that fleeting moment, Howard's mind cleared, and he realized the magnitude of his mistake—but it was too late. Helplessly, he watched the blinding energy rush toward him, swallowing everything in its path.
Yet, just as despair set in, a hand reached out from the void. Time rewound, and all the released energy shrank back into the core.
Howard opened his eyes hesitantly, expecting oblivion, but instead found himself alive. His mind was still conscious, and he slowly lowered his trembling arm from his face.
Before him stood a strange figure, casually toying with the now-stable reactor core as if it were a mere trinket.
"I succeeded! The door to humanity's future has been opened!" Howard exclaimed, overwhelmed with relief and exhilaration.
But the figure shook his head, shattering Howard's moment of triumph.
"No, Howard. You did not succeed. If I hadn't intervened at the last moment, you, this device, and the entire Stark Building would have been obliterated."
The stranger's words snapped Howard back to reality, and his brilliant mind began to piece things together.
"Sir, are you... a mutant?" Howard asked cautiously, eyeing the stranger with a mixture of awe and suspicion.
He had encountered many remarkable phenomena during his tenure as the founding director of the SHIELD, but this individual was unlike any he'd seen before.
The figure smirked, "A mutant? Not exactly. Though their ancestors now revere me as a god. I hail from **Dispelia**."
The name made Howard flinch. As a man privy to many of Earth's deepest secrets, he was no stranger to tales of extraterrestrial intelligences and ancient beings. But the mention of Dispelia—the legendary celestial realm—struck a chord of unease within him.
"And what, may I ask, brings someone like you to Earth?" Howard probed, attempting to gauge the being's intentions.
The figure, who Howard now realized must be **Luke**, smiled enigmatically, "There's someone on Earth who has piqued my interest. So I decided to visit."
Then, as though reminiscing, Luke added, "It's been more than twenty years since I last saw you, Howard. I must say, you've aged considerably. Mortality is such a fragile thing."
Howard's brow furrowed, "You've met me before? Forgive me, but I don't seem to recall…"
"Of course you don't." Luke replied nonchalantly, "Your memories were erased by a bald sorcerer—the one you call the **Ancient One**. Convenient, isn't it?"
At this revelation, a flood of forgotten memories surged through Howard's mind. The sight of Luke's horns, the events long buried, all came rushing back.
"You're… him. The one who…" Howard's voice faltered as the weight of realization settled upon him.
Luke smiled faintly, "Yes. I saved your world several times. But don't thank me just yet. I only did so to eliminate my enemies. Your survival was merely incidental."
Howard, despite his unease, felt a compulsion to express gratitude, "Even so… thank you. On behalf of humanity."
Luke waved it off dismissively, "Spare me your thanks. It was never about humanity."
A heavy silence followed, broken only when Howard asked cautiously, "Is there anything I can do for you during your time on Earth?"
Luke's expression softened, "I've spent plenty of time with the Ancient One and her reclusive mages. This time, I'd like to stay here, with you, for a few days." He paused before adding, "I'm also curious to see your son—Tony Stark. The future superhero."
Howard was stunned, "Tony? A superhero? My son's brilliance as a scientist is undeniable, but a superhero?"
Luke chuckled, "Oh, he will be. Didn't you meet him from the future twenty years ago? Back then, he was saving half of all life in the universe."
Howard's mind reeled, "I… met him? From the future?"
Suddenly, memories of a man named Howard Potts surfaced. Could it have been Tony, his son from a different time?
"It seems you're remembering." Luke said, observing Howard's reaction, "But perhaps that future has already been destroyed."
Howard's heart sank, "Destroyed? What happened to them?"
Luke recounted the tragic tale of an alternate timeline: Tony's struggles, his triumphs, and the devastation that followed Hydra's rise. While Luke shared these events with detached indifference, Howard felt a pang of pride and sorrow for the son he'd never truly know.
