They always emphasize "facts over feelings," yet reject pretty much all actually sound scientific research, while also pushing specifically harmful (not to mention unnecessary) advancements. they say trans people are evil bc they go against the nature of what "god" created, yet also seem to literally never gaf about nature otherwise. i don't think any one of them has ever reflected and wondered why they believe the things they do it's truly mind boggling. it's definitely possible to trace back in history how all these ideas emerged but it's fascinating that somehow this large of a group of people have never seriously reflected on the foundations of their beliefs at all.

2024-07-31 23:40:55 +0000 UTCWhen i was younger one of the key radicalizing moments for me was when an older relative said to me "we can't do anything about climate change until someone figures out a way to profit from fixing it", and they didn't say it as a cynical joke or a criticism of capitalism. They said it like it's a law of physics or something, like it's simply impossible to do even if we wanted to. They weren't sad or angry about it, they just accepted that's how things are. It really stuck with me and caused me to have some sort of existential crisis basically. The idea that we can't save ourselves from the biggest threat humanity has possibly ever faced unless some fat leech can get rich off of it and that some people accept this reality was just soul crushing and still is.
