we've wanted to do this for a while! a generous stardew valley fan took it upon themselves to do the localization of the game in dutch. since stardew valley is one of our favorite games, we figured this might be a good way to add to our vocabulary.

we finally went back for attempt two…
i (alex) was sick this week with a cold or something (shoutout to the guy who definitely gave it to me on the busy train back from utrecht last week) and i thought i was feeling better, so we continued on with our plan to do the antwerp vlog on thursday… and boy, that was a bad idea.
the plan is to return and finish the vlog next week so it’ll hopefully still be out for thursday, but man, what is up with antwerp? it’s like it doesn’t...

we attempted to re-take our youtube profile photo, partly for "funsies", but also because we're posting a 3 year update to one of our first youtube videos (about how we moved to the netherlands) and we wanted it for the thumbnail. sadly, the photos didn't work out, but we did check out an american diner-style spot nearby, which was an experience... seeing a dutch interpretation of an american diner. :) the food was good tho...

y'all, i messed up.
i should have posted these throughout the month but i got totally caught up trying to post more photos to instagram and now, we have a boatload of photos all at once on patreon.
we'll be better about this in april... :)
of course, at the beginning of march, there was our first CARNAVAL in the netherlands. we went to kruikenstad (tilburg) and oeteldonk (den bosch) and it was so much fun! we were originally supposed to also go to eindhoven in the video, but...

when we made kimchi in our amazing oriental video a few months ago, michelle picked the extra spicy chili powder and the kimchi was, well... spicy. too spicy. so we went back to amazing oriental in search of regular chili powder to re-attempt kimchi.

what a great few weeks of weather we've had in the netherlands :)
we posted a poll on our instagram to see if people thought it'd be weird if we went to the beach when it was only 18° (65°F) and overwhelmingly, the answer was nope, not weird at all. so we packed up our beach towel (and our camera) and we went to the beach.

if there's one thing we were wrong about, it's hawaii.
we thought it was a tourist trap. it's one of the popular tourist destinations for americans (and the japanese, which we didn't realize until our first trip there!), but hawaii is incredible. gorgeous hikes, beaches, and amazing food (both hawaiian and japanese food).

we ate all 3 of our meals (along with some snacks) from action, a popular chain of discount stores in the netherlands, where you can buy everything from mops, to cat trees, to candles, to... unrefrigerated sweet and sour chicken.

firstly, we went back to nijmegen to film our first proper city vlog of 2025. things with pants are... okay? "normal" is probably more appropriate. so when we saw that it was going to be sunny and 17°C (63°F), we didn't hesitate... and we're so glad that we went back.

for national frikandel day, snack bar chain verhage (we hadn't heard of them before either, but apparently they have 38 stores in the netherlands) had a competition amongst their stores to fancy up a frikandel in some way, and our location in dordrecht had the winning entry.

if you visit one city in the united states, make it new orleans.
not only is it home to our favorite restaurant in the world (the WORLD), it's also just a beautiful city with a lot of character. we used to do the 8 hour drive from austin to new orleans a couple of times a year to enjoy the iced coffee, the sweltering heat, and a delicious meal at turkey and the wolf (the aforementioned favorite restaurant in the world).
