Lessgo, Rudy got his "From Zero" moment. He just didn't have a Rem to pull him out, he had to do so himself.
Honestly I'm also glad we went this way with it too as it sends a pretty clear and honest message. You can only help yourself. There will be hands there trying to reach you, but if you don't want to be saved.. its pointless. You have to want to climb out of the darkness yourself. And its hard. Very difficult at times to do it.
I think Rudeus getting the motivation from finding his mother, is a very good touch too. Everyone finds different ways that works for them, but the most common best way is finding a purpose. Finding something to do to keep you active as you process the pain. The pain will definitely still be there and won't go away so quicky.. but finding some consistency in something (big or small) can help push you to get back on your feet and realize life goes on and you'll be okay.
Mushoku Tensei and Re:Zero are currently my favorite isekai. Its the exceptional writing, intimate real emotional moments and fascinating worldbuilding that keeps bringing me back to these shows.

Another show that does this thing well of depicting the struggles of depression, trauma and changing to be better is "Bojack Horseman" on Netflix.
It captures the ugliness and raw cyclic nature of wanting to do better, screwing up badly (intentionally or subconsciously due to long term effects of trauma on one's behavior), facing consequences for your actions and coming out the other end wanting to try again to be better and the cycle continues.
Its a pretty damn funny show that can get very serious, dramatic and dark. Especially since its set in a fictional Hollywood (or Hollywoo), and alot of its humor is poking fun or showing the comically ugly parts of hollywood celebrity culture.
Would definitely recommend!

I must confess the first time I saw Kurt I thought he was a girl too. If the anime included the hand kissing scene maybe Kurt could have the recognition he deserves.

Good point. He certainly is a flawed person but at the end of the day he has a good heart and is an accomplished individual capable of providing for his family, and we didn't think twice when he ended up with two wives. It was a messy and complicated situation, but it still felt real.

To that point did Paul feel like a cliché harem protagonist? He had from his perspective two wives, even though one was from the lone monogamist religion, as that is a major tenant of the Millis Religion, and the other viewed herself as someone who betrayed her friend and was only worthy of being a mistress. It was messy and emotional and human. I would not expect anything to be simplistic in this series.

Yep and to be honest, Rudy having to choose between them could be very juicy storytelling as well. So many directions that could go

Yeah that's fair, the author has shown they're capable of expanding on the tropes so they don't feel so cliche

That being said, having an aversion to such tropes is completely understandable because so many anime and media in general fail to execute them in interesting ways. So I get it

On the topic of the harem conversation, the author has already shown that he does a lot of "tropes" and adds a lot of depth and meaning behind them to make them believable.
For instance, Rudeus starts off as a perverted creep that is way too obsessed with sex. What an awful character right? But then we see all that he's been through that made him end up that way. Lots of stunted maturity and years of wallowing in depravity. Anyone COULD end up this way and the author's point is...does that make those kind of people worthless and unredeemable? Could someone like that actually grow out of it and recognize the issues with that kind of behavior? Or are their minds warped beyond repair?
Another example is Eris. Bratty tsundere "princess" who gets whatever she wants and throws tantrums over everything. Oh boy where have we seen that before? Until we find out it makes perfect sense for HER because she had her siblings taken away from her and she's constantly had expectations placed on her shoulders that she's constantly fell short of. To many of the powers around her she's no good, only to be used as a potential political pawn. So of course she's going to be bitter and lash out and grasp tightly onto the identity of "I'm a noble and better than you" because that's ALL she has over anyone. Without it she's worthless as countless people around her have told/shown her.
Rudeus is an amazingly gifted mage and learns to read and cast intermediate level magic at like 5 years old. Oh great he's going to be ridiculously OP and have nothing standing in his way before too long isn't? Oh wait talent only gets you so far, and there are TONS of beings in this world that are still leagues away from him. First we meet Ghislaine who saves him from certain death by some regular bandits. Then Rujierd who is a 500+ year old demon who has spent most of his life fighting wars and is practically untouchable. Then we meet a literal GOD who treats Rudeus as a plaything, killing him and reviving him seemingly on a whim.
And I could go on and on, but you get the point.
So even if he does go the harem route, I'd be interested to see how he can make that feel earned and believable too. Keep in mind, polygamy has existed in our world for most of humanity's history. Monogamistic beliefs are a relatively recent thing, there were countless cultures in our past where men that could provide (nobles, kings, even rich merchants) took multiple women as their own.

Me too their reaction was awesome! I can't wait for them to watch S2. Re:Zero is good on it's own right, but it just doesn't hit the same for me. Vinland I will probably watch

Yeah that video addresses everything Graham was talking about, and that George seemed to pick up without having the explicit evidence from the LN. That really is a great video for people who have only watched the anime.

The extra scene takes place after a bit of a time jump. Sylphiette is 15 during that scene. You will learn more about who she is with and why she is dressed that way in season 2's episode 0 Guardian Fitz. Having seen them now. If you go back and watch Lord Sarous's execution scene in "Slow Life in Doldia Villiage". You might notice that they observed the events from the palace balcony. *Important: When you get to season 2 episode 5 start skipping the OP! That is when they change to a traditional opening.*

I "almost" totally agree. It could be a minor spoiler to say where she is going as Rudy has no idea and even season 2 only gives clues. I think the more important thing is what Graham struggled with. Why did Eris seduce Rudy only to leave him? The answer is she was afraid of Rudy leaving to search for his mother without her. Eris still feels like a burden. She considers Orstead to be a terrifying monster that not even Ruijurd could touch. Rudy was able to hurt Orstead though, and he was planning just in case he had to fight Orstead again. Eris never even considered marrying anyone else, but she wanted to try to use her body to tie Rudy to her, as her mother and Edna had taught her. Eris was quite enjoying herself (Rudy is apparently more than satisfactory in that department) when she noticed that Rudy couldn't keep up. She realized she was taking advantage of someone younger than her because she was dependent on him. She wants to grow strong enough to be able to stand between Rudy and whatever danger he may face. Swordswoman and Mage.

Hoo boy. Ep 22 and 23 are so beautifully done but also has one of the worst choices in terms of adaptation. They completely skip Eris’s POV segment that explains VERY in depth why she left. And it’s so expertly written in the LN. I can post that entire segment in the comments if you want. It spoils nothing and just gives the explanation. Lmk if you’re interested. Anyway, get ready for season 2. It only gets better.
