SHT Chapter 43

Hearing the system's voice in his head, Edward was stunned.

This is possible?

He understood what the system meant.

It seemed that his accidental idea of forming a gaming interest group had increased Keith's favorability towards him significantly.

But he hadn't expected that his action would actually earn him an extra reward from the system. What a pleasant surprise.

He wondered what good things he could get from the random box. Edward was filled with anticipation.

"Edward sir, I'm doing it. I'm willing to be the head of this gaming interest group."

Keith put away his playful demeanor and spoke seriously. Edward nodded his head.

"Thank you, Edward sir. Thank you for your trust and respect."

Edward's series of actions had a positive impact on Keith. He had always loved playing games and disliked attending classes and studying.

His grades weren't always the worst but they weren't particularly good either, hovering around the middle to lower range.

Based on his own scores, he wouldn't have been able to enter a prestigious high school like Horizon High School during the high school entrance exam.

However, his parents were successful in business and their family was well-off, so they paid to get him into Horizon High School.

From childhood to adulthood, he couldn't remember how many times he had been punished by his parents and criticized by his teachers for playing games.

But encouragement, respect? Very, very few. So few that his memory is blurry.

He usually seems carefree and outgoing, but he's still just a child. He has self-esteem too. It's just that his optimism hides his self-esteem.

Never before had an elder respected his thoughts and preferences like Edward sir. When Edward heard that he liked playing games, it wasn't reprimand or criticism, but praise and encouragement.

He even made him the leader of the game interest group. These were experiences and feelings that Keith had never had before. He secretly vowed to himself that he would not let Edward sir down.

Edward had no idea how much his actions would catalyze Keith's growth. Edward didn't know but years later Keith the king of esports was born at this moment, completing his psychological transformation.

"Good. I believe you can be a good leader of this game interest group."

Edward smiled and patted Keith on the shoulder. As for Mike, Edward didn't have any thoughts about establishing a novel interest group.

Writing novels is different from playing games. Edward might not understand the thoughts of top students.

But he knows the thoughts of students who don't do well in their studies. What do they dread the most in all subjects?

Mathematics and language.

Therefore, Edward didn't assign any other work to Mike.

Just finish writing "Fighting Heaven And Earth" well, don't make it trash or have a bad ending. Edward believes that Mike will definitely become a sensation online this year.

He and Keith are on different paths, and Edward naturally wouldn't use the same methods to teach him.

"Let's go, I'll take you guys to eat. After dinner, go back to the classroom and rest."

Edward stood up and smiled at them.

......

The evening study session at Horizon High School starts at 7 o'clock. Before the evening study session, Edward went to Katherine's office. He knocked on the door before entering.

"Katherine Ma'am." Edward said politely.

"Edward sir, what do you need?"

"I want to ask Katherine Ma'am, is there a prize for winning the math Olympiad?" Edward explained with a smile.

As a physical education teacher, he naturally wouldn't know about the details of the math Olympiad. Katherine was surprised, her beautiful eyes fixed on Edward for a long time.

"Edward sir, why are you asking this?"

She couldn't understand why Edward was asking this question.

In her opinion, Edward, whether as a physical education teacher or as the homeroom teacher of Class 9 of grade 11, shouldn't be concerned about the math Olympiad.

She knew the math scores of the students in Class 9 much better than Edward, the new homeroom teacher. In her impression, there was absolutely no student in Class 9 who could participate in the math Olympiad.

"Katherine Ma'am, don't ask me why I'm asking this, just tell me." Edward chuckled.

He wasn't sure if this would work or not. But you have to try everything. If it works, a stone in his heart will be lifted. If it doesn't work, he'll have to think of other ways.

Seeing that Edward was being coy, Katherine rolled her eyes at him and said in a bad mood, "Fine, I'll tell you. The math Olympiad competition is divided into four levels: the city level, the state level, the national level, and the International Mathematical Olympiad."

"There are no cash prizes for the city level and state level competitions. The first, second, and third prizes in the national levels, in principle, do not have any cash prizes. But as long as you win a national competition award, the city, district will have cash rewards."

"Our Horizon High School will also have cash rewards for winning students. The first, second, and third prizes will receive 30,000, 20,000, and 10,000 dollars in cash incentives, respectively. If you can enter the national team and eventually win gold, silver, or bronze medals in the International Mathematical Olympiad, then the prize money will only be more."

Katherine finished in one breath, paused, and then continued, "Actually, Edward sir, you should understand that for students, the prize money for various competitions is actually secondary. Getting a good ranking in the national competition or even the International Mathematical Olympiad is more about significantly enhancing their personal resumes. With the gold, silver, or bronze medals from the Olympiad, extra points in the college entrance exam and special admissions to prestigious universities are the biggest rewards for them."

Edward nodded his head after hearing her words. He understood what Katherine was saying, of course. However, everything she said only applied to a normal top student.

Edward needed to help wake up a "problem top student".

After leaving Sakura village in the afternoon, he had been thinking about one question, 'What is the most important thing to Jamie now?'

After much thought, he came to only one conclusion, 'Money.'

In Edward's bank account, he had 100k dollars gifted by the system. If Jamie asked, he would not hesitate to help him.

But Edward knew that Jamie would not ask him for help.

Taro Yamada was from the same village as Jamie, and Jamie would have to call him "Uncle Taro". Even such a close neighbor, he wouldn't want to take advantage of him.

Let alone others?

Edward could easily deduce that this child, Jamie, had a very strong sense of self-esteem. Charity would only backfire.

Because of this, Edward thought of using the math Olympiad competition to test him, to see if he could unravel Jamie's knot.

"Katherine Ma'am, thank you. Also, could you give me a copy of the Olympiad exam paper you used to select the top students?"

Edward asked with a smile. He didn't explain much to Katherine, it wasn't the right time yet and even if he tried he won't be able to explain it to Katherine how he knew about Jamie.

"I want to see what you're up to."

Edward didn't explain, which made Katherine even more annoyed, but she still took out a test paper from her drawer and gave it to Edward.

She wanted to see which student in Class 9 could solve this Olympiad selection exam paper made by their math teaching group.
