rewatching Flexie's reaction to this show and just realized how fitting Maomao's night-like dress fits if Maomao became Jinshi's partner, to keep from spoiling it for anyone just now watching it that's all I'll say and if you know you know about what I mean saying that with Jinshi's real identity.

It's even called out I think in a later episode with her father that touches upon him keeping her away from certain things that could lead her down a dark path given her obsessions.

Edit: this and the last episode were freaking nuts to me. After the season ended, I looked up the manga and picked up where it left off. Stuff is GREAT. I'll just leave it at that. Season 2 right now is also :D

She doesn't at all exhibit sociopathic tendencies; she's way too aware and thoughtful over morality and ethics, deliberately refrains from dangerous impulsive behavior, and shows way more concern and empathy over people she doesn't even know.

2025-02-09 16:28:40 +0000 UTCHuge huge reveals here in this episode! Yes, Fengming was executed, which is not really a surprise. It goes back to what MaoMao said to Jinshi in episode 9. Any mistake could result in grounds for execution, this is no joke. Attempting to poison a concubine is definitely up there. That’s ALSO why Maomao never mentioned anything about Lady Lishus taster trying to prank her by giving her fish (when she didn’t know about the allergy) because the taster definitely would’ve been executed. As for her theory, let’s think about what this is implying here about Jinshi status. Let’s say the babies WERE swapped. That means that Jinshi, who is acting as manager of the rear palace, grew up as the Emperors “younger brother” who no one ever sees because he’s “sick”. This may explain all of those little hints we’ve been given to his true character as a higher position than he is. If this is an act, is he even a eunuch like everyone thinks 👀 AND, digging even deeper…….it ALSO would mean, that if he is the actual son of Concubine Ah Duo and the current Emperor, he is….the oldest prince and the current heir to the throne. So what could that mean for him in the future? If this theory is true, who all knows about it? Does Jinshi even know? 👀 we dunno. More to come

2025-02-09 16:26:42 +0000 UTCAt the end, Jinshi just discovered that Maomao was "related" to Fengming family, but most probably only because she was sold either to a family member or passed off as a family member to be sold (kidnapping is illegal but a family can sell its daughter to the palace so that's how this is officially recorded, by corrupted officials). As for Maomao's theory, it fits suspiciously well to the facts but my feeling on her final decision to treat it as a delusion is that this is more a matter of survival (better not to know any state secret and avoid involvement) than her disbelieving her own conclusions.
