Flexie!? How did you figure that out? LOL. When I watched this the first time, I was like huh? What did they find out? Is it a woman thing? I was like damn How did Flexie figure that out so quickly lol.

Not you calling Jinshi "Shinji" at 11:08 LMAO

Oh, you're going to love the entire... I think it was like 28 episodes?? Anyway, it's like Sherlock Holms meets House MD in ancient China and it had me gripped and hooked throughout. It's also amazingly consistent for the entire series, the story, characters, animation and style. Just, it's so good. This and Frieren were my favorites, even over JJK, when everything and their mother were airing hahahaha :3

So something to put your mind at ease is in Asian culture there's the idea of seeing someone too thin or skinny as someone who's malnourished or sickly so whenever they ask her has she been eating well and making sure she eats is similar to the care and love that a grandma would have in making sure their grandchildren well fed, and saddling them with tons of leftovers, to make sure they stay healthy.

SemiSeriousNerd

I loved this lol YES!!

ok, sorry this is about to be a wall of text cause i'm about to geek out. i just really loved this episode and there was so much that culminated here. this is my read on everything leading up to that final scene between maomao and jinshi. maomao and jinshi are basically always the smartest people in the room, but maomao has constantly gone out of her way to seem like she knows/understands less than she does. jinshi on the other hand has basically made it his whole brandโ€”he notices everything, makes it a point to let people know "he knows" whatever they think he doesn't (which isn't to say he doesn't have his secrets, i think he's more than he's letting on). jinshi is constantly poking maomao because he's fascinated by herโ€”the fact that he can't charm her like everyone else, the way she avoids showing her competence instead of climbing the social ladder like he has. there's some wall he can't see past. but now they can't stop thinking about each other because neither has ever really met someone that could match their insight. we then get some foreshadowing with the lavish accessories given to the ladies in waiting to ward of "bad bugs". items to signal to would be assailants that these women, well frankly, "belong" to someone wealthy and powerful as a way to protect them. *and then* this incredible externalization of their characters' intellectual conflicts in the reveal that maomao has also been hiding her physical beauty as wellโ€”something we've already seen jinshi does not seem to have a category for. he flouts his obvious good looks *constantly* to get ahead. but when she gives him her reasoning he suddenly understands that part of her he never could quite figure out before and stops seeing her as a puzzle to be solved (we still don't know how he became a eunuch, he may understand very well). he immediately gives her his hairpin, like the necklace she received for this event, a signal to everyone that she is protected. only, this hairpin is hers now. jinshi tells her she never has to fear for her safety while she is there. i could also just be wrong about everything. ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ either way, they're just fucking adorable. ๐Ÿ˜‚

The "pin" is sort of "safety pin". Just as the jewelry that Lady Gyokuyou gave her ladies in waiting. In the inner palace it means that attacker would know that if something happened to person wearing it - some really powerful people would start looking for said person. So "bug repellent".

Jan Negrey

After episode 4 when Maomao was taking care of Lihua-sama, it was very draining and she lost a bit of weight. So other ladies-in waiting kind of wanted to help her and those 3 as usual are a bit too much ;)

With this pace, you might actually catch up. Which I'm very glad about!

Your questions about Jinshi....yes, this show is like an onion with many layers. You'll learn more about the behind the scenes of his character as we go on. Let's see if you can connect the dots and fill in the spaces...I feel like they're pretty good at giving hints without blankly just stating things, but not everyone picks up on it if they don't watch closely. Also about the hairpin, I know you've seen Demon Slayer. So remember the Entertainment District where Ume was gifted a hairpin by a samurai? Here's a brief description from Google about hairpins: "In Asian cultures, particularly in China, gifting a hairpin is often considered a symbol of love and commitment" Loose definition here but similar sentiment, as women can also gift hairpins to others. So, keep that in mind

omfg the DINGS at the beginning (2:10 ish) of this episode from your stream or phone, boosted to x600% volume (so i can hear u and the show's low audio...) SCARED THE LOVING CHEWBACCA out of me and my dogs... they're now running around the house trying to hunt ghosts or something. And i dont blame them lol

Regarding how Jinshi feels about Maomao, I think this scene here, when he finds out about her freckles and why she puts them on, he finally realizes that she's a real person with her own real feelings and problems. I think this is when he stopped viewing her as a "toy" and more as someone he has genuine feelings for (whether he realizes it or not, lol)

Kelven

It is fascinating watching jinshi a high ranking member of the palace come face to face with the realities outside the palace. You get the feeling that's the first time he's had to confront that

Ah my dose of Apothecary Diaries very much needed

Maomao was looking after Lady Lihua for a few months. During that time she often stayed up for most of the night and was generally stressed out and sleep deprived. When she returned to the Jade Pavilion the other ladies-in-waiting noted how much weight sheโ€™d lost since they last saw her. There was concern for Maomaoโ€™s health. Thatโ€™s the reason for everyoneโ€™s interest in Maomao regaining the weight she had lost. They are judging her weight to be a measure of her state of health. Theyโ€™re not fattening her up for market or anything ๐Ÿ˜œ

I can't get enough of this shit!
