Frieren Beyond Journey's End Ep22 REACTION (Early Uncut Access)

Episode 22 | Future Enemies

Frieren Beyond Journey's End Ep22 REACTION (Early Uncut Access)

Frieren anime has the best "non laugh" jokes around. Richter's comment on a crazy old dude dragging him to a fist fight stuck with me. also denken making three separate attempts to persuade richter to accompany him to a restaurant is legendary. denken first tries bribery, then rolls for coercion, then finally drags his dead wife into the convo.

Himmel mentioned his favorite dish was some kind of omlete in one of the earlier episodes, I don't think it was so much Stark chose it as Frieren suggested it was really good.

So "Basic Magic" requires huge amounts of mana and precision to win a fight. Regular, even talented mage would be at a mercy of someone who has more mana. In most cases. It's not that it's "popular" (in sense of "trendy") to use this kind of "manipulating environment" spells. It's because it allows for easier breaking of the defense spell and spending less mana on a fight. You might win a fight like in attrition battles that Frieren and Fern are doing against similarly strong opponent, but you will be left with little to no mana afterwards. What if there is another enemy? The best way is to know both "schools" and use what is appropriate. Remember that "ordinary offensive magic" was researched AFTER Demon King was killed. Frieren didn't use it during her quest with Hero's party. It's just that her way of using it works for her and for Fern. For 99% of other mages it would actually be worse. You have to live 60+ years to be good at it and you will likely not live that long if you try using it since the beginning. Fern is kind of an exception. At most I would say "modern" mages lack flexibility. But then again, this type of fighting would be useful against only very select group of mages.

<< holy shit.

Please, if you want the proper pronunciation of names do this: 1. Go to google translate 2. Set the first language to German and the second to English 3. Type the name in the first box (German) 4. Press the "listen" button in the first box (German) It not only gives you proper pronunciation of the name, but the second (English) box gives you the translation.

The reason basic offensive magic (Zoltraak) is effective in the hands of Frieren and Fern is a bit of a paradox with a very human root. As Richter kindly explained, the defensive spell (the hexagons) was developed specifically to counter Zoltraak. That was its purpose from the very beginning. But because it was also kind of good at defending against other spells and even physical attacks, it became the de-facto default defensive spell for all situations. But remember - it wasn't designed for that purpose - it was designed to defeat Zoltraak. So, because Zoltraak has been analysed and a defensive spell against it has been developed, it went out of favour - a text-book example of an arms race, where good countermeasures make the previously best weapon obsolete. Again, as Richter explained, the defensive spell was never meant to be a catch-all defence, it only meant to protect against Zoltraak, and it was excellent at that. But, it was never improved upon to increase its defensive capability against other spells and physical attacks. It essentially remained the same since it was conceived, because over-engineering it would have a fatal effect on mana consumption and activation time. So suddenly you have an offensive spell that is obsolete and no one uses it, and a defensive spell that is no longer used for its original purpose, and using it for other purposes is sub-optimal, but that's what everyone is doing because there's no better alternative. So when someone like Frieren (or Fern) comes around that DO use powerful Zoltraak attacks A LOT, the new mages are simply not used to it and overdo their defences, exhausting their mana. Remember one of the early episodes (before Qual fight) where Frieren trains Fern on defence and teaches her to only activate it at exactly the place and moment of impact, because it consumes too much mana and leaves too many gaps otherwise. New mages instinctively put too much mana into defending against basic offensive magic, because they are used to defending against "high-volume physical attacks" that the defensive spell was never designed to defend against in the first place. So when they are faced with a LOT of basic offensive magic which is quick to activate and cheap in terms of mana expense, they just burn out too quickly and leave too many openings in their defences. I hope my explanation made sense. The gist is that the new mages never had to face Zoltraak because it fell out of favour, so they are overdoing it in terms of defence, because they are used to "new" magic, which the defensive spell was never really engineered to defend against. And so they quickly run out of mana and get clapped. If you watch Fern and Frieren defend, you'll notice they only activate defensive spells at the moment of impact, they only cover where the impact is, and immediately deactivate the spell afterwards. The new crop of mages tends to activate the spell early, cover more area than is actually needed to defend against Zoltraak, and keep their defences up for longer than necessary, and that is why the defensive magic exhausts their mana way quicker than the basic offensive magic exhausts Fern's and Frieren's mana. And also, Fern and Frieren have a lot of mana to spare which they constantly supress fooling other mages, so there's that too.

Frieren on that caveman atkins 500% protein diet

I think their way of over powering modern mages is because they are suppressing their mana, so maybe their opponents think they can win easily and make mistakes because they are underestimating them based on their low looking mana

Denken Donuts!!! YUM!

James Bell

think there are hundreds of different spells to bind something Wirbel and Frieren both just used one of many but not the same one

I feel the launch of a new franchise must be coming soon: Denken's Donuts? If living is being remembered and Frieren is asking how can she be remembered, is she asking Himmel how she can live? How she can even have a life? Frieren recommended the meal to Stark. It's a nice natural thing, right? I might do that sometimes. I think I've made recommendations with, "My friend had this last time and said it was really good..." Frieren's friend was Himmel, of course. I think it shows she is getting to know Stark well. If she was still trying to be logical and figure it out I think she would recommend whatever Eisen had, on the basis that Stark was largely raised by Eisen and so would probably share similar tastes, as Eisen would have cooked for him many times. Recommending Himmel's dish seems like it stems from a closer knowledge. I love the weird old guy who talks to Stark while he's training. I really want to do that. I want to go and stand beside someone who is meditating in the local park and when they finish say, "I have nothing more to teach you," and just walk away enigmatically.

Don’t forget about the guys from Furin High in Windbreaker eating omurice 😀

Frieren is that kind of anime what should have at least 100 episodes per season.

gusttafa

A double Frieren upload. We are so back.

Dylan French

Frieren recommended it to stark, It was quick but he didn't know what to order. Also I always took the basic magic thing to be that frieren is making fern master the basics which people don't do anymore they just move on to the new magic and practice that.

Some fun light-hearted stuff before the exam! Yayayay, Some notes for the ep: Frieren's spell to bind a bird and Sorganeil by Wirbel and later Ubel are different spells. Frieren's only works on birds and bird-like creatures (It worked on the bird monster in a previous ep), and you have to be super close to use it. For Wirbel/Ubel, you have to look at the whole body and can seemingly bind anything. They look similar but they are different. If you notice, Sorganeil by Ubel is crooked and lop-sided while Wirbel's is clean and polished, showing that Ubel does it by feel versus Wirbel probably knows the fundamental principles behind the spell, but both still work. Frieren recommends Stark the dish Himmel got, which is why they have the same thing. Stark says 'What should I get?' then Frieren says 'I recommend..." Ubel getting new spells by empathizing is so cool. Especially since when we first meet her, she gives off stereotypical deranged psycho murderer vibes, but having to talk, understand, and empathize with people to increase her skillset is super interesting.

As much as i love the battles and action across many anime its these cozy, character driven episodes that really make me stick with shows forever. Like yeah Naruto’s fights are awesome, but what i think back on and really smile about is team 7 working together all day trying to get a peek at Kakashi’s face under the mask

DietPop

watching the ending still breaks me every single episode

Bambi

Denken’s a real one
