According to an oral history that came out some years back, Hughes's first pass at editing this was well over two hours. Among the things that got cut was a scene (after Neil returned to the train station and found Del waiting there) of them going to a diner or something and having a long heart-to-heart. The movie certainly works without that, but I'm sad it's not included anywhere because just seeing Martin and Candy have a deeper dialogue with each other would have been a real treat. I love them so much.

(.....on the other hand, maybe NOW "Planes, Tranes And Automobiles" is where people most commonly get that information from, not sure! lol)

I never got to see the full length, this was great! Great edit! I feel like I didn't miss a thing, I feel like I saw the whole movie. You cracking up at the Houdini line was priceless. I don't know if that comes from this movie....it's something we all used to say! There was a TV movie about Houdini in the late 70s that alot of people watched and they re-enacted that scene in it. So it became one of those things everyone suddenly knew about, and would talk about. I remember me and my friends talking about it in my front yard for instance, years before this movie. It's just one of those things: don't sucker punch someone in the stomach....that's how Houdini died! 😄
