Fred and Wilma, funny :) I'll have to watch Police Squad

Okay, this is going to be long, too. Sorry, everyone! I love this movie. “Police Squad” was a television series which aired for six episodes on ABC in 1982. It got cancelled way too soon which still blows my mind. How did a funny show like that get the axe while “Joanie Loves Chachi” get two seasons? TWO. SEASONS. SMH Anyways, this movie came out a few years later and it was a very popular one we used to play a lot when I worked at Hollywood Video. We would also play “Police Squad”, too. In hindsight, I’m amazed that we never got fired. LOL There are some scenes in this movie which probably should have garnered an R-rating, but thankfully it did not. Had that been the case, we would not have been able to play it in-store at Hollywood (R-rated movies and pornos were prohibited from being played). Oh, and anything NC-17 or unrated like “Henry and June” or “The Lover”. I must confess that seeing OJ Simpson getting hurt in this movie gives me such satisfaction. Upon hearing of his passing, my comment was, “All I can say is this: he’s in a much better place.” And as a kid I loved OJ Simpson as a football player. He was one of the best who ever played the game. When I heard the news almost thirty years ago about the murders I was shocked and stunned. I’ll just say this: he was funny in these movies. Fun fact: Jimmie Walker auditioned for the role of Nordberg, but was turned down. Also, did anyone notice Fred’s wife’s name was Wilma? I’m sure that was intentional. The television show “Police Squad” had an informant named Johnny who would shine people’s shoes and the joke was he knew everything. Not just what was going down with crime, but one episode had a priest ask him what he knew about life and death. “I wouldn’t know a thing about it”, Johnny said. Then the priest would give him $20 and he’d say, “What are you talking, existential being or anthropomorphic deity?” LOL So glad you enjoyed this, Ames! Hope you enjoy the sequels. There’s a very cool homage to “The Untouchables” in the third movie.
