I LOVED this wild epi! WEEE!
I am so sorry but there seems to have been an OBS/My computer issue where my sound cuts out! Even with my computer back up mic it still did it! I am so sorry for that! I updated OBS before so not sure what happened as I went live a couple hrs after I watched this episode and had no issues! SO... I think I'll do another update and I am ordering a new mic! Cause now I am paranoid about my recent sound malfunctions... not impressed!
BUT I thought this was a great epi and got to learn a lot more about SPOCK! The Vulcan ritual is intense!
thanks for watching with me!!

Brilliant analysis of the Spock - McCoy dynamic!

Theodore Sturgeon, the writer for this episode, was probably the best short-fiction writer in SFF of the 1950s. His command of language was unparalleled (he sometimes write in "metric prose"), and you could read his stories a dozen times and still find new layers. He wrote one other Trek episode ("Shore Leave"), which has multiple directions and implications.
As for the trio: it is sometimes said that Spock and McCoy represent the different parts of Kirk's mind. They allow us to see the internal struggles and decision-making process without having to get a voice-over or flashback. Spock & McCoy simply argue, and this way we get to see what Kirk is thinking.

Good call Patrick ! Don't worry. "Mirror, Mirror" (s2 e4) and "Journey to Babel" (s2 e10) are the two Star Trek TOS episodes remaining on the list JM63 and I prepared for Ames to watch before she begins the films.

Btw Chekov, the last main crewmember, is introduced in this episode (next to Sulu). The producers wanted a young Beatles/Monkees-looking guy to boost the ratings. (I think they made him Russian b/c the Soviets were actually leading the space race at the time.)

Ames, that was another great reaction to a classic Star Trek episode. Thursdays with you watching Star Trek is appointment television for me. However, I am sad if this is the last before you watch the films. I don't know what other episodes are on your list, but perhaps you can watch "Journey to Babel" before you stop. It is another episode featuring Spock; of course, it is one of the best. Thank you, and live long and prosper.

Hahaha, nice operatic outro!! Super fun episode
Like Tic Toc mentioned, T'Pau is the star of this one. According to wiki she was the first wife (and lifelong friend) of Peter Lorre from Casablanca! Can you imagine having them over for coffee and discussing the neighborhood and the weather? What a surreal conversation that would be!!

This was a fun one, Ames!! Certainly a side of Spock we've never seen before!! LOL. Also a great way to get some insight into the ancient traditions and culture of Vulcan. That T'Pau was not to be messed with!! Great reaction!! Two more episodes to go before the movies!

Well of course I'll watch Star Trek with you (while I should be doing something else!) :D That's a no-brainer! (I don't know who the actress is who plays the Head Vulcan but she's so great in this episode. (just looked her up: Celia Lovsky, known chiefly for this and a Twilight Zone. She has major gravitas!)
