Time to discuss what I’ve been doing. This time is the playable Blazing Soul and how she’ll work.
I know I’ve been making... complex characters as of late. Especially when you consider the older characters that can be simplified with “Press funny button to deal big damage”, but I like making things different! Can’t have all characters working the same way!
I’m trying something different with Blazing Soul! Gauge Management! Yaay(?)

So, now that you've seen where Blazing Soul is sitting in the list, let’s talk about her!
(She stole the Fire Protagonist spot as the ultimate glass cannon. He'll have to make do with a few fire attacks she'll teach him during story)
She is the ultimate glass cannon. Planned to be the highest damage potential in the game, but also the lowest defenses! That means she’ll be in the same niche as Viz, but somehow even easier to die, and needs to ramp up in combat.
She has no MP, and her TP is renamed to Heat! In combat, Blazing Soul, the stupid hothead she is, will constantly heat up! The more Heat(TP) she has, the higher her damage is, but the lower her defenses are! All of her skills are made to manage her TP.
At 0~50 Heat(TP) she is considered “Igniting”. When she is in this state she loses damage and gets a lot of defenses. Thematically, this is her being calm.
At 50~99 Heat(TP) she is “Flaming”. She receives a damage and crit buff and begins losing defenses. Thematically this is her combat mode.
At 100 Heat(TP) she is “Blazing”. She receives a MASSIVE damage and crit boost, but loses more than 50% of her defenses. Thematically this is her losing control.
(She always start combat at 30 Heat(TP), so she’s not useless in random battles)
It sounds complex, but it isn’t. Trust me.
For Weapons she’ll share the Gloves with Nihil, AND Souls with Kiria.
For Armor she’ll be able to use everything that isn’t Shields and Heavy armor.
As of right now I have her working... kinda perfectly! She just needs some number tuning. Some things are... too extreme. Her damage is currently too high and her defenses are ass, making her too feast or famine. She either kills in one hit or is one shot.
I do want to make her a character that needs to be babysat in combat. As in “She is a moron that is running ahead being reckless, and the rest of the party is rushing behind her with heals, taunts and shields to keep her alive”
I'm planning three gameplay routes for her:
Igniting with gloves(She can be a bit of a tanky damage dealer if not heated up.)
Keep Flaming up for constant high-damage while avoiding getting too Hot or cold.
Go for Blazing and blow the big pp damage load! Cool down do it again!
