dev log #17, october 2nd, 2023

Auryn before the Stila's collapse, or, me trying to work on anatomy.

It's been a pretty decent week, in retrospect, but it was a tough one to get through in real time! I had a lot of work-related stuff to get through (but now it's done and dusted. The grief of leaving that field of work is there, but there has been such a weight off my chest to get to leave it behind, probably forever this time). My therapist gave me a bombastic side-eye when I said 'oh I'm so glad I got out before I burnt out again', so, this past week has also been me just reconciling with the fact that I'm. Going through burn out. It's very frustrating to not really know the difference between 'I just have to push a bit harder because I know I have ADHD and the dopamine is a bit delayed' and 'wow I actually have to rest because my body&mind is screaming for it'. The signals are exactly the same and I cannot tell them apart. (This is just me commiserating, I promise, because there is no way in hell I'm giving up on the dream of writing full time, even if the road there is chock full of trial and tribulation.)

Either way! With Ouro, I have been working on it every day, but it's mainly brainstorming and a itty bitty tiny bit of writing. Apart from other writing(over 3k for the week), I think I just about passed 400 words written on Ouro for the week. I am not going to rush it though, because that is what I did with every chapter since the flashback, and now I'm staring at the very real possibility of having to scrap a lot of that writing because it isn't how I want the story to pan out.  I rushed it when I shouldn't have. 

Otherwise, I'm still working on art and code for the twine version. I am learning how to paint forest landscapes and dense foliage. Something I found super fun is negative painting with watercolor. It's been so calming and lovely to just listen to a podcast and paint for a few hours. I'm looking forward to doing it again today ☺️

Today is also the start of preptober for me! I am doing nanowrimo this year, hoping I can get the revisions done in October and new writing down in November. I will be talking about it in the discord, and hopefully joined by a few of you lovely people there! If you're a creative, feel free to join us!
