PSA: Subscribing through the Apple App Store

Hi guys,

So Patreon has started rolling out their App Store fees now. They initially said that anyone who was already subscribed would not be subject to the increased fees, that only new subscribers would have to pay them. Regardless, I encourage you all to check and be sure you're not paying extra. Apple charges 30% on top of the normal price, and they keep every penny of that.

Even though Patreon promised that they wouldn't take revenue from creators from this change, I've started seeing fees being charged to me as well over this, enough that I know there are at least 30 people already subscribed who are paying Apple extra for the privilege. Hopefully this is some kind of error, but Patreon has what's probably the worst customer service I've ever seen (and I use Comcast as my ISP), and so far I've gotten nowhere with getting them to deal with this issue.

So, please, check to see if you're paying extra, and if you're considering subscribing and are using the Patreon app on iOS, subscribe directly through Patreon instead.
