Second Wind - End of Year 2023 Revenue Report

Very happy to share our updated revenue report for Second Wind for the end of year 2023!

We've had a really strong start and are making good on building a solid warchest for when we start paying ourselves in February.

Thank you for all your support thus far!

As we start the year, we'll be making another big push for Patreon support to make sure we have a buffer zone for staying at our target funding, and we're rethinking Kickstarter a bit towards more of a fundraising event instead.  We'll have more details soon on that!

In March we'll also be doing a big Charity event stream as well to do something to give back for all the support we've been receiving.

For Jan - February we'll be launching new shows, getting our reg stream schedule going, contracts for employees and other business items!

Thank you,

Nick Calandra

Ah thanks, I knew I was missing something

**addition to above yeah I can see in the screenshot, salaries take effect 01 Feb 2024 bottom right :)

Charlotte Savage

If I recall correct they mention this in the intro to channel post, after they first split, that they aren't taking salaries for like 6 months or something to help build up the $$$ for in case support starts to wean after a certain amount of time (cos internet & hype etc - I think they already saw a dip after the first month due to that :) )

Charlotte Savage

Same problem, semi-weekly could mean once every two weeks or twice a week. Fortnightly is unambiguous.

James Bastone

Maybe it was explained elsewhere, but uh, why are there no saleries listed as expenses? Are you simply not paying the creators at the moment until you get more of a stable money situation?

Bruce Wayne

Wouldn't that be more accurately semi-weekly?

Bruce Wayne

Big fan of seeing the warchest as full as it is just after two months. I'll be here contributing as long as I can :)

Jgallstar1

Agreed here. No matter how honest or well-intentioned, you can't write about yourself as objectively as an outside observer.

dirtside

I think this idea is good, but I hesitate for any person/group to make a documentary on themselves. Docs need enough separation to make sure the story is being told accurately and objectively. "The Second Wind Story by Second Wind", even if wholly true and accurate would just feel a bit wrong.

KingDead42

Thank the gods, I thought I was the only one, lol Also really happy to see how well they're doing ❤️

ZhoRa13

Remember stuffing the lot in to your back pocket and running of to Monty Carlo is still an option.

Steven Salm

Maybe because it's part of my job, but I enjoy seeing a breakdown of income and expenses. It's not even a transparency thing, I just like seeing actual numbers that people live by.

Dragmire

Couldn't have spent one more cent on software?

Isaac Swarts

Proud of you guys! You took what could've been disaster and heartbreak, said "no!" and pulled together. I'm proud to support you now and in the future. Breathe a little easier, Nick, you've done well. Keep it up.

WordsmithofSol

sorry for all the questions! Thanks for the replies.

Russell Schafer

Happy to see a healthy war chest. Thanks for exemplifying transparency in an industry that could use more of that.

Cynthia McGarvie

Thanks again Nick. I'm glad you guys went the transparency route and I think it will only help you in the months and years to come in building an even stronger supporter base. You all rock!

Ultraczar

thank you for the nice breakdown :)

Ronnie

Blu-ray Adventure is Nigh season collections. I’d buy that in a heartbeat

Ricaidius

Once you guys are sailing smooth you should honestly make a documentary on Second Wind's origin story. The tale is well worth telling, and the added insight you're willing to provide on the finances gives a fascinating peek to those of us curious about the inner workings of the industry (and a good, teachable example of how to run a business, to boot). I'm so glad you're on your way to the end of the tunnel, and best of luck for this new year!

Nathaniel Solyn

Ah okay, fortnightly. Thanks.

James Bastone

Even if the Merch sales go off a cliff it looks like you should be able to comfortably pay everyone. Well done!

Jon Patreon

We'll need to replace some equipment for the Adventure is Nigh shoot that we had to send back to Gamurs. But nothing crazy cause we own a lot of our own equipment already.

Nick Calandra

Keep at it Nick, remember FIGHTING!

Scottpligrimrules

Pretty sure that means the salaries are paid once every 2 weeks.

Top Floor

What equipment purchases are you planning soon?

Russell Schafer

extra points for transparency :)

Rasmus Listra

Thanks for the transparency and the excellent content. Stuff like this is why I've come to greatly prefer independent media over corporate media. Happy New Year everyone!

Klaw117

Is the swearing what kills the YouTube revenue or is it just undependable in general?

Russell Schafer

Very happy to see this. Makes me more willing to keep Patreon going. Does bi-weekly mean fortnightly or twice a week?

James Bastone

It's really nice to see this kind of transparency. It's also great to see how much the former company missed out when they kept deferring to approve on merch.

GayBearDaddy2

Nice! Keep up the great work :D

Matthew Shaffer

Great start and this year's going to be even better. Well done!

Jordy

Good luck guys!

Earl Elmore

Happy to see you doing so well so quickly gang! Here's to Second Wind!

Rev Zsaz

That's amazing! Fantastic job moving so fast and mobilizing so fast.

Robert Louis Stoll

That's our net! We have no overhead on merch outside of paying for designs as Shark Robot handles everything else and we just get a payout. So basically pure profit for us aside from taxes! And yes, YouTube revenue is just extra essentially. Not a source of funding we can rely on.

Nick Calandra

New designs, new items, etc! We'll be doing new merch runs quite often!

Nick Calandra

Love it. I'm so glad you're doing well and I definitely appreciate the transparency. I wish more of the world did things like this. As I'm able I'll certainly throw more money at you all. Thanks for the many hours of work and entertainment you all provide. Many happy returns in the new year!

Dan Smeiska

I like the strong merch sales TBH as I feel that is sustainable. Is that net or gross though? What is your goal for YouTube revenue in the long term? Is it just extra or are you hoping to grow that over time as shows and viewership grows?

Russell Schafer

Ooooh secondary merch drop? Well after seeing that report I can understand why you would want to, and I don't think anyone in here will be complaining either.

Kempolar

The Dirty Dozen doing good.

Niall Collins

Love all your content, glad to be donating even though I can’t afford too much. Keep making your amazing stuff!

Transparency is awesome!
