Second Wind - End of Year 2023 Revenue Report
Added 2024-01-02 19:12:46 +0000 UTC
Very happy to share our updated revenue report for Second Wind for the end of year 2023!
We've had a really strong start and are making good on building a solid warchest for when we start paying ourselves in February.
Thank you for all your support thus far!
As we start the year, we'll be making another big push for Patreon support to make sure we have a buffer zone for staying at our target funding, and we're rethinking Kickstarter a bit towards more of a fundraising event instead. We'll have more details soon on that!
In March we'll also be doing a big Charity event stream as well to do something to give back for all the support we've been receiving.
For Jan - February we'll be launching new shows, getting our reg stream schedule going, contracts for employees and other business items!
Thank you,
Nick Calandra

2024-01-03 22:10:41 +0000 UTC**addition to above yeah I can see in the screenshot, salaries take effect 01 Feb 2024 bottom right :)

2024-01-03 19:59:27 +0000 UTCIf I recall correct they mention this in the intro to channel post, after they first split, that they aren't taking salaries for like 6 months or something to help build up the $$$ for in case support starts to wean after a certain amount of time (cos internet & hype etc - I think they already saw a dip after the first month due to that :) )

2024-01-03 19:58:22 +0000 UTCSame problem, semi-weekly could mean once every two weeks or twice a week. Fortnightly is unambiguous.

2024-01-03 18:12:37 +0000 UTCMaybe it was explained elsewhere, but uh, why are there no saleries listed as expenses? Are you simply not paying the creators at the moment until you get more of a stable money situation?
Bruce Wayne
2024-01-03 18:06:09 +0000 UTCWouldn't that be more accurately semi-weekly?
Bruce Wayne
2024-01-03 18:04:46 +0000 UTCBig fan of seeing the warchest as full as it is just after two months. I'll be here contributing as long as I can :)

2024-01-03 17:09:00 +0000 UTCAgreed here. No matter how honest or well-intentioned, you can't write about yourself as objectively as an outside observer.

2024-01-03 16:54:15 +0000 UTCI think this idea is good, but I hesitate for any person/group to make a documentary on themselves. Docs need enough separation to make sure the story is being told accurately and objectively. "The Second Wind Story by Second Wind", even if wholly true and accurate would just feel a bit wrong.

2024-01-03 14:39:37 +0000 UTCThank the gods, I thought I was the only one, lol Also really happy to see how well they're doing ❤️

2024-01-03 08:06:17 +0000 UTCRemember stuffing the lot in to your back pocket and running of to Monty Carlo is still an option.

2024-01-03 03:49:51 +0000 UTCMaybe because it's part of my job, but I enjoy seeing a breakdown of income and expenses. It's not even a transparency thing, I just like seeing actual numbers that people live by.

2024-01-03 01:12:06 +0000 UTCCouldn't have spent one more cent on software?

2024-01-03 01:00:40 +0000 UTCProud of you guys! You took what could've been disaster and heartbreak, said "no!" and pulled together. I'm proud to support you now and in the future. Breathe a little easier, Nick, you've done well. Keep it up.

2024-01-02 22:51:09 +0000 UTCHappy to see a healthy war chest. Thanks for exemplifying transparency in an industry that could use more of that.

2024-01-02 21:40:06 +0000 UTCThanks again Nick. I'm glad you guys went the transparency route and I think it will only help you in the months and years to come in building an even stronger supporter base. You all rock!

2024-01-02 20:06:07 +0000 UTCOnce you guys are sailing smooth you should honestly make a documentary on Second Wind's origin story. The tale is well worth telling, and the added insight you're willing to provide on the finances gives a fascinating peek to those of us curious about the inner workings of the industry (and a good, teachable example of how to run a business, to boot). I'm so glad you're on your way to the end of the tunnel, and best of luck for this new year!

2024-01-02 19:57:27 +0000 UTCAh okay, fortnightly. Thanks.

2024-01-02 19:57:25 +0000 UTCEven if the Merch sales go off a cliff it looks like you should be able to comfortably pay everyone. Well done!

2024-01-02 19:48:49 +0000 UTCWe'll need to replace some equipment for the Adventure is Nigh shoot that we had to send back to Gamurs. But nothing crazy cause we own a lot of our own equipment already.

2024-01-02 19:48:22 +0000 UTCKeep at it Nick, remember FIGHTING!

2024-01-02 19:47:40 +0000 UTCPretty sure that means the salaries are paid once every 2 weeks.

2024-01-02 19:41:41 +0000 UTCextra points for transparency :)

2024-01-02 19:40:59 +0000 UTCThanks for the transparency and the excellent content. Stuff like this is why I've come to greatly prefer independent media over corporate media. Happy New Year everyone!

2024-01-02 19:40:47 +0000 UTCIs the swearing what kills the YouTube revenue or is it just undependable in general?
Russell Schafer
2024-01-02 19:39:52 +0000 UTCVery happy to see this. Makes me more willing to keep Patreon going. Does bi-weekly mean fortnightly or twice a week?
James Bastone
2024-01-02 19:37:17 +0000 UTCIt's really nice to see this kind of transparency. It's also great to see how much the former company missed out when they kept deferring to approve on merch.

2024-01-02 19:22:03 +0000 UTCThat's amazing! Fantastic job moving so fast and mobilizing so fast.

2024-01-02 19:21:54 +0000 UTCThat's our net! We have no overhead on merch outside of paying for designs as Shark Robot handles everything else and we just get a payout. So basically pure profit for us aside from taxes! And yes, YouTube revenue is just extra essentially. Not a source of funding we can rely on.
Nick Calandra
2024-01-02 19:21:43 +0000 UTCNew designs, new items, etc! We'll be doing new merch runs quite often!
Nick Calandra
2024-01-02 19:21:04 +0000 UTCLove it. I'm so glad you're doing well and I definitely appreciate the transparency. I wish more of the world did things like this. As I'm able I'll certainly throw more money at you all. Thanks for the many hours of work and entertainment you all provide. Many happy returns in the new year!

2024-01-02 19:20:28 +0000 UTCI like the strong merch sales TBH as I feel that is sustainable. Is that net or gross though? What is your goal for YouTube revenue in the long term? Is it just extra or are you hoping to grow that over time as shows and viewership grows?
Russell Schafer
2024-01-02 19:20:18 +0000 UTCOoooh secondary merch drop? Well after seeing that report I can understand why you would want to, and I don't think anyone in here will be complaining either.
