What's in a name?!

I received an email last week, asking if I'm Erika from The Au Lait Way (and if that's my real name), as by the end of the story she becomes 'Rikki'.

The answer to both is no.  In fact, I deliberately spelled her name with the extra 'k' to differentiate her from myself, and also I sort of dislike stories where the author uses their own pen name, and that was really as much as I could do to make the distinction.

But anyway, I thought it would be fun to share where some of these names did come from.  I do use names of people I know (or don't know, but find attractive) as inspiration.

From In Heat:

Tiffany - this was a super, super hot girlfriend of a platonic friend, that I had a huge girl crush on

Denise - another girlfriend of a different friend, whom I thought was very sexy but very bitchy lol

From The Au Lait Way:

Erika - I used to work a job in undergrad and she was a hot girl that used to come in sometimes

Jessica - Named after a beautiful co-worker of mine from my first job out of school.  We made out one time during a happy hour that ended being several hours (hence the inspiration for that part of the story) and it was awkward forever thereafter..!

Kate - I met this person once randomly, we exchanged info and never met in person ever again.  We would chat on Kik and swap NSFW pictures and sext.  I've never really done anything like this before or since...  but it was fun!!!  lol

Marie - This character is named after someone I barely knew in high school but always found so alluring and attractive.  It was very strange -- right after graduating, she moved out of state and I assumed I would never see this person again.  But then I would run into her from time to time, in college, even though she didn't go there, and then again, in my home city on a night out.  We had a very brief, very hot fling.  She had always gone by her middle name, but when we were together, I always called her by her first name for some reason (which was Maria, not Marie).

Michelle - this name was random, but worth mentioning since the physical descriptions of this character are based on the real life Tiffany.  Yum!

From Resistance -

Meghan - Megan Fox lol!!!

Christine - a friend's sexy sister

Crystal - This just sounds like a bitchy slut to me...  If I ever have a daughter, she won't be named Crystal lol!!!

Zach - Same with this, it just automatically conveys popular jerk to me for who knows what reason...

From Dr. J. Eckels and Mrs. Whore:

Edward - Named after Mr. Edward Hyde, naturally.  I suppose, given his nature, he should have been called Henry.

Jenna - The title precluded naming the character anything other than a name that starts with 'J', but Jenna was a sexy girl I knew who had the hots for me.  I was too intimidated/scared to reciprocate at the time, and I was in the tail end of a failing relationship at that moment.  I remember one evening, all of us drunk, her sitting across the table from me, talking about me to her friend, thinking I couldn't hear what she was saying.  But I heard enough..!  Maybe I should have just hastened the demise of my relationship that night...

OK well, I hope this is as interesting to read as it was fun to write!  I was slightly tempted to do some Facebook stalking and provide some visual aids (with identities protected) but that seems too much and a little dangerous to my anonymity.  Perhaps some other time if I ever get up the nerve...
