Before Tywin arrived there he was killing them for fun, why would he keep them alive after Tywin left again. Arias friend just killed the guards in the night. Actually I even found a wiki link that confirms it https://gameofthrones.fandom.com/wiki/Harrenhal (see in section Season 3)
