Modern game Devlog: Story Timelines

Hey everyone, development on the next game is still coming along at a decent pace. I've been working on getting the lighting and materials looking better the past two months which is finally starting to get to a point I'm happy with. There will still be improvements I can make to it but it's close enough that I can work on other aspects of the game and not have to worry about things completely changing and needing to be redone. While I get that finished I thought I would instead give a preview for a different part of the game, the story timelines

Unlike Last Hope this game is broken up into smaller stories which each have their own timelines. Initially only the first segment will be unlocked and by playing through the story you will unlock each segment as you go though it. The path you take through the story will depend on your actions and choices made but you can go back to the timeline at any point and try out the other options if you went down a path you didn't want to. This means that some options may not take you to the end of the story but they may still lead to some interesting outcomes

This isn't how the final version of the UI will look but It should give you a good Idea of where it's heading. Each segment will have a picture of what happens during that part of the story so you can easily return to any point that you want to. This means that It works as both the save system for the game but at the same time a gallery mode for all the more exciting moments

I know that some of you will be sad to see that this isn't as open of a system as Last Hope had but with this more structured format It'll mean that the story can be more complex as you won't just be doing any event in any order. It will also mean that the relationships between the characters can develop more naturally

Any chance of a little Christmas present for the supporters?

There will be free roam events at certain parts of the story when you are able to do any events you want as they wont change story progress. I am also thinking of having a replay mode that lets you quickly switch between all the sex scenes you have unlocked in that story without dialogue. I'm not sure how the development time will go as I haven't fully gone through a whole story yet. My current plan is to have every story be about the same amount of segments but arranged in different ways. So one could have on long main path and another could be split into 6 but they would still be the same number of segments. This should mean that once a couple are done I will know roughly how long it takes to make each story regardless of choices

I normally hate choose-your-own-adventure style gameplay, because "choices" are often just opportunities to miss out on good content, but I really like the way you seem to be implementing it. Being able to see how the story branches, and to go back and make different choices at any time sounds like an elegant solution to that problem. And it takes care of the saves and gallery as well! That's a great idea. I have two main worries/questions though: 1. Will there still be free roam events as you progress further with the different LIs? If you wanted to, say, have sex with someone in the shower would you have to go back to replay the "shower" event, or will you be able to meet them in the bathroom any time after a certain milestone is reached? 2. How will the different routes affect your development time? I've seen other games get really bogged down with multiple routes for each character. I hope you can avoid that. Otherwise I'm really looking forward to it!
