I had a couple comments recently that mentioned how much Harver looked like Kinley and how much Keplan looked like Jaxsen. Someone asked me if I did that intentionally, and another person had asked me if Harver was their child (lol NO).
So I wanted to do a little compare and contrast, both for you guys and for myself. Being a webcomic artist... drawing the SAME characters over and over again-- literally thousands of times-- is difficult, okay. lol. And I realize that I'm not the best at creating unique characters with wildly different features, (spare me same-face-syndrome PLEASE) but there are some intentional differences. I figured, maybe seeing them side by side would help you guys see it too.
When I first drew Harver it never crossed my mind that he looked at all like Kinley-- and I actually think the only reason people say that is because of their hair color. Which is FUNNY, because I vividly remember the first time drawing Harver, and thinking to myself "My sweet strawberry blonde boy". IT NEVER EVEN CROSSED MY MIND that he was "ginger" like Kinley. And in some ways I'd still argue he's not (my heart still says strawberry blonde, but I don't think anyone else would agree lol).
As for Keplan and Jaxsen-- again I think it's just dark hair, the way it frames their face, and the blue eyes.
Anyway, my point in doing this made me realize two things about the process of drawing characters. 1) When you're the one drawing characters you're always going to notice the subtle differences in features. Because you have to! You have to remember what's unique about one character vs another. And 2) As a reader you are always going to notice what's familiar about characters you didn't create. Our brains are just wired that way when consuming content.
KAy bye~ Back to drawing TLLT panels~
