I can't really say how early because I don't want to give too much away that might be revealed in TLLT-- but I will say that this is before they are officially "dating".
Kinley probably wasn't a big reader, but we all know Jaxsen is a nerd lol. And I like to think that some of their hobbies wear off on each other... or rather, Jaxsen makes sure to convince Kinley that his hobbies are fun and he should try them! In this case... reading self-care books about sex/sexuality and romance is probably something that he actually does find enjoyable, AND does help him a little bit :)
Of course, reading a book called "Self Respect + Sex" and then immediately sending the guy you may or may not be crushing on a shirtless selfie in bed... KINLEY, ARE YOU PRACTICING SELF RESPECT OR NOT?

For those of you who are new here and have probably seen all the JaxsenXKinley content-- I just want to say, sorry for the spoilers? But also.... not sorry? LOL. I made the decision a long time ago to spoil this post-TLLT information for Patreons, because I knew it would bring you a LOT of extra content. (Please don't spoil it for public readers though!) How they meet and how they get together is something that I will NOT be spoiling though-- I want you to all be excited for that part lol. ;)
