Interdictor Cover 01 Progress + PSD file

Time for one of these again! This one was much more laborious than I thought it'd be to begin with.

During the concept, I had this idea of the imperial family sitting down, as if for a family portrait, with one of the sons sitting in a chair, the head of the family standing up and with his hand on his shoulder, but behind them, a human with his hand on the father's shoulder. I really liked the meaning behind that and what it meant for the story, so I went with it, except that I expanded upon it;

I looked around for family portrait references and found many, all of which showed the entire family, not just a handful of members, so I decided to go and draw the entire family as well. After finding some reference poses and clothes, I proceeded to draw everyone and the humans at the back (I went with two humans to make them more ominous than only one would've been). Then I started sketching as coloring as always.

I wanted to distance the humans from the hunds and make them look gloomy and threatening in a way, but by making them lighter in the back, they popped out of the picture, which wasn't what I wanted to go with, so after consulting with some artist friends, I ended on the darker take on the background and the humans, which worked much better in the end! I could've gone with some stronger eye-glare, lights and whatnot, but decided to keep it simple.

Then, at the end, I noticed I had forgotten to draw chairs, so I got some 3D models online, posed them in place, painted over them and hid away part of the characters to give the chairs and the characters more depth.

Lastly, the logo is one I've brought back from my previous concepts for Interdictor, but I updated the font and polished a little more the flower background.

And after almost a week of work, I was done with the cover, probably the biggest and most ambitious I've ever done!

On top of that, I added a PSD file for you to explore layer by layer and get a sense of how I work (if you're into that).
Problem is; the original PSD file was around 850MB in size, so I had to reduce the resolution in half and delete a lot of redundant layers to get the size down to something lower than 200MB.
You'll still get to see a lot of my work, just not in it's original quality, but I hope you all enjoy it nonetheless. :)
