These couple headshots on the far left were my first design choices for Wallace, when I first came up with the idea for him over a year ago. Now, as we approached the time for him to make his debut in the comic, I decided to revisit his design and background.
Wallace grew up in small Tallbeth County alongside his friend Nathan, throughout his youth, Wallace learned to play the guitar, which urged in him the dream of being a musician, one of the main reasons he's moving to New Nycan.
In the written story I posted a while ago, Wallace has a 'pet plant' called Hachemalahefestoplin, I always thought of it as either a flytrap or a cactus, I went with the former because it was the only thing I had actual photo references for.
The rightmost poses was for his clothes design, which until then was just a shirt, pants and a cap, nothing too fancy. I decided then to make him wear flannel shirts and suspenders, I also decided to give him a fancy mustache on top of everything else.
Thinking of his musical ambition, I even tried my hand at writing a lyric for a song he composed, the story of two persons, one which gets left behind, but ends up being happier than the one who left and feeling bad for them, a little analogy of Nathan and Wallace's relationship. I never came up with a melody and I ended up switching the place for some lines, but that's the gist of the song.
I'm glad I revisited his design, because I already thought Wallace was my most visually interesting character, and now he's even more unique. I hope you all like him as much as I do within the upcoming pages!
I've also attached below some references and the older drawings of Wallace that I've done (one of which includes a more casual Nathan than everyone's used to)
