Continuing the trend of trying to bring a historical or interesting mundane to the tables, and presenting a magical variation at the same time. I mean, who really needs sleep?
I love historical weapons, and it doesn’t get much older than the Atlatl. A precursor to the bow and a key implementation of a lever, it is one of the reasons we thrived as a species in areas. So when looking for an enhancement for strength based ranged attackers in 5e, it was a natural choice.
