SHADOWS OF MADNESS - 5e mini adventure for 4-5 characters of levels 6-7

Many years ago, Tibor, a wizard with an overwhelming desire for knowledge about the Plane of Shadow, locked himself away in a tower to pursue his studies. Shortly thereafter, his tower was consumed in a dark explosion, the mage assumed dead. Where the tower once stood, the characters discover a hidden stairway leading below.

Tibor was driven to madness by an unbridled desire for questionable knowledge, and a yearning for the imagined accompanying power that only delving into the Plane of Shadow conjures. Like many before him found, the psychological warping produced by such study manifested as incoherent gibbering mouthers. Tibor generally ignores the aberrations, believing them to be his failed experiments and inaccurate ideas made whole. But on occasions he talks frankly with them, believing they give him insight into matters he could never have guessed on his own.

As for the explosion; it was not real, but a superb shadow image of one. It was debatably Tibor’s greatest work. However unreal, it was enough to cause some damage to the tower and have people believe the worst. Since then, Tibor has lived with creatures whose stupidity is legendary: ogres.

For this map, I did stone tiles because it gives a really good feeling, but I also did a gridless version, to be able to add your custom grid, like in the last map pack. And I think it turned out pretty good. What do you think?

I very much like this little adventure, so I encourage you to play it or embed it in your current campaign!

This is awesome, can you please make enchanted forest maps that have fluorescent details, I’m running a campaign that has a lot of enchanted forest type terrain

OFM

Thank you Martin! Zorzula’s Rest, Indigo sanctum and some other locations are coming this month!

Very nice! I'm hoping to play this as a short adventure for my players. I'm currently DM-ing Lost Mine of Phandelver and your maps have been fantastic. Now that WotC has expanded LMoP with Phandelver and Below - The Shattered Obelisk, is there any chance of you making maps for the expanded adventure? It includes ancient duergar mining outposts, temples and crypts, Mind Flayer strongholds in the Underdark, and disturbingly organic tunnels and chambers in the Far Realm. Lots of different scenes to tackle!

Martin Grimstad Sivertsen

I’m glad you like it. Do you mean for personal use or do you have some other plan?

Dynamic Dungeons

Awesome!, can i have permission to translate it to spanish?

Thank you, I'm glad you like it Stephanie!

According to the adventure, this is the "Portent Room" "The secret door to this hidden room is discovered with a successful DC 20 Wisdom (Perception) check or found with a successful DC 15 Intelligence (Investigation) check if actively searching the hallway. Just inside the hidden door, the floor is trapped to trigger a collapsing roof trap that activates once the the door is shut, affecting all creatures within the room. The room is empty except for a painting that hangs on the wall depicting what looks to be the characters themselves in an epic battle with a shadowy figure."

I'm glad you like it. I did not make an unlit version, but now that you mention it, maybe I should make it. I was thinking about whether to keep the torches in the unfurnished version and decided to keep them, because the map would be reduced to a almost still image without the lights. Do you think it would be more usable without the torches?

Dynamic Dungeons

Amazing as usual!

Stephanie McAlea

I also do not understand the secret door to room 3. Can you explain your thoughts behind it?

Swo

Awesome. I plan to use it in my campaign. Can you tell me where the unlit version is?
