IIRC, there's some other remark from Oda somewhere (outside of an SBS) where he adds to the -san/-chan thing that Robin has an unspoken desire to be seen as younger (because of her traumatic childhood, perhaps?) while Nami prefers to be seen as mature beyond her years, so the honorifics match their own preferences.

@5:50 I'm surprised noone mentioned the fantastic Panda-Purse!?!? How could you? :( @6:30 If you ever see statues in Japanese media where it looks like a little, furry creature with massive testicles (don't shoot the messenger, I'm just telling the truth), it's a Tanuki (Japanese Raccoon Dog). Normally they represent good luck.

Starting to think we need a crew name...

Where does this term, raccoon dog come from? Is it an actual animal? I've always wondered at the American translation of tanuki. It's a mythological/folkloric creature so why would you even translate it at all? Why not just call it a tanuki? You don't translate, minotaur. So what is it about a "raccoon dog" that makes it a worthwhile translation? Please teach me something.

Interesting. There's another reason for Sanji to call Nami and Robin by the "wrong" honourifics which makes perfect sense and is witnessed in most Japanese workplaces every day. Nami was on the crew already when Sanji joined so she's his senior; Robin joined after Sanji so she's his junior. When it comes to workplace situations age isn't the primary deciding factor in heirarchy. I don't know why Oda didn't just go with that as it makes perfect sense. Perhaps he's not thinking of them as crewmates but more as a family? Impossible to know but interesting nonetheless.

Zoro is actually left handed, which is why he wears his swords on the right-hand side. At least, that's what I figured. Whenever Zoro uses one sword, he seems to favor his left hand as the dominant one.

Zoro wears his swords on the left because he has no sense of direction

"Tanuki" is the Japanese raccoon dog! It's what randos are always calling Chopper instead of a reindeer 😭
