For me, it is very impressive to see that Okama characters are in the series, and some of them have great character depth. Oda is a very open-minded person considering the region he lives in, and considering it was in 2009. You always have to acknowledge that the world is wide, and there are different histories and cultures that you have to consider.

2025-04-30 22:28:26 +0000 UTCFun fact (not a spoiler): Itβs not that βSanjiβ is being punished for his actions, itβs more like Sanjiβs voice actor (Hiraoki Hirata) is being clowned on by Oda. Ya see, Oda and Hirata are actually good friends in real life (outside of One Piece stuff) and as male friends often do, they clown on each other ALL the time, and Hirata is particularly good at it. So Oda, in order to get back at him, will give Sanji particularly more embarrassing storylines with humiliating dialogue JUST BECAUSE he knows his friend (Hirata) will eventually have to βsayβ those lines out loud with his own voice xD there is no real deeper story-related meaning other than that lol.
