I like that it makes perfect sense that Frieren had to dip into the bag of dangerous spells. She taught Fern that ordinary offensive magic and defensive spells were enough to defeat mages of the current era, Frieren is not a mage of the current era.

I find Serie and Frieren's relationship so interesting, "my master's master" is a vibe I didn't know I needed haha Serie is what Frieren could have been (emotionally) without Himmel BUT Serie is clearly putting up a front, totally cared for and loved Flamme LOL - ALSOOO Frieren pulling out all these crazy ass spells, no wonder she's a legendary mage! Says a lot about how times have changed where she taught Fern that "basic offensive magic" is more than enough to handle mages of the current age

I can't help but imagine Serie as Killua everytime she talks lol

Serie: "I didn't care about Flamme and I don't even like you, Frieren, so go home... ...but before you go, I'd like you to walk with me so I can deliver a eulogy for Flamme and grieve after her. But it totally doesn't mean anything, I swear!"

I can't wait for the next episode ! 😊

In the past, we get the battle of ideologies between Serie and Frieren, and, in the present, we get Frieren and Fern against Frieren. Love Serie's line about either the Demon King or a human mage being the one who will kill Frieren

Zoltraak has been around a mere 80 years, that's like an afternoon nap for most elves.

i find that really interesting sometimes, im at a loss for word when i try to explain to older gen on how to navigate certain interface. simple stuff like right click, press and hold or looking for the icon for option. Or sliding right, using keyboard shortcut Or just the simple act of googling it. its not like they are too dumb to understand it, there is a missing pre concept somewhere. they didnt even think that it could be googled, or that every interface will have an option window. no matter the layout there is only so many action that can be done. the machine is the same everywhere you go only with different clothes. i think thats how frieren looks at modern mage. you can be as fancy as you want but nothing beats pure simple functionality

One of the rare moments where we see Frieren actually cast flashy and deadly spells instead of ordinary offensive magic! As for Serie, she contradicts herself everytime with what she's saying and her actions. She's indeed an interesting character. I think the comparison you made with Serie being Frieren who has never met Himmel was actually pretty clever and makes sense

I love that Frieren specifically said that zoltraak was enough to defeat mages 'of this era' to Fern. So when she starts throwing the other spells like with Denken or her copy you know they're real ones

Serie did really put off that decision to follow Flamme's will for a thousand years, and then founded this new magic association. Well in her own, elitist way. And I do love that little bit of them adding the vision of little Flamme walking around them - that was peak adorable.

I love that line about how Fern can fire off Zoltraak without thinking, whereas it's a relatively new spell for Elves. The newest generation can fire it off reflexively... It's an interesting in-world parallel to how quickly newer generations internalize new technology. Kids who grew up with iphones. A few years ago I was a teacher at an Adult Education Center, running classes on Microsoft Office software like Powerpoint, Word, Excel. One thing I noticed was that older generations, who were born before home computing was even a thing, have to remember basic Operating System paradigms like folders and file systems in order to do things like drag and drop files. They have to think first and THEN do it. But it's almost reflex for folks who grew up with that as a child. It's like the proficiency of your grandma and grandpa with an iPhone vs your little cousin. --- I'm glad you picked up on the contrast of Serie's cold, standoffish, heavily rationalized words, against the warm image of her smiling while holding little Flamme's hand and walking through the forest floor surrounded by trees and flowers. Even when I first saw this episode, I also felt that Serie's words may be harsh, but her non-verbal expressions and that little visual of her and Flamme tells a very different story.
