I've read the manga a little further than the exam arc, but I absolutely can't think of what you're refereng to, as it's been a while :D I'll surely comment on the episode - if you see my comment then, feel free to reply to it, I'm quite curious :)

2025-01-10 23:12:36 +0000 UTCDemons in general can see mana in more detail than mages. Aura, one of the Seven Sages of Destruction herself, was unable to see any fluctuations in Frieren's mana. So I seriously doubt Lawine's was seeing anything that gave her the impression that Frieren was hiding her mana. It was likely just intuitive that Lawine felt Frieren was a very strong mage and it was not based on any type of mana perception.

2025-01-07 14:27:24 +0000 UTCI love that recollection from Frieren about how mana isn't the only determining factor in victory during a mage battle. 11 mages with less mana but nevertheless talented, resourceful, and very likely possessing a lot of luck, have defeated Frieren herself. Basically she's telling us that if you have the right skill set, you're not necessarily doomed if you go up against a mage with higher mana. In big trouble, yes, but doomed? Maybe not 🤔
