Animals are able to because of their heightened senses that we humans don't have. Kids because their senses haven't been influenced by our current day society yet so they tend to see more compared to how we as adults were taught to believe/ perceive they're not real so our perception of them dims. However it's never really gone per say but we still have the idea/ concept of perceiving negative emotions or if an area has a bad enough vibe that triggers our fight or flight response when there seems to be nothing visible.

On a side note, I almost killed a close friend of mine when I told her David Beckham’s nickname was Golden Balls. She laughed so much she couldn’t breathe and we were both genuinely worried for her life for a few seconds. “Kintama” is apparently very funny in Japan.

In case you guys dont already know, and apologies if you already do, but a 'maneki neko', a beckoning cat is a popular japanese figurine, you find it in stores...etc. According to legends, folktales...etc, it 'beckons' good luck, prosperity...etc. So that's what she meant with the whole luck/good fortune thing
