Also considering how evolution works, i dont think blk ppl’s OG home is Europe…Africans are dark due to the development of melanin to protect from sooo much solar exposure. Conversely, Europeans dont need as much melanin, so their bodies dropped that and developed a body more capable and handling harsh cold environments.

Reginald

In short i kind of disagree with you…respectfully of course

Reginald

The show is set in Madagascar (which is near the bottom right side of africa i think) Also Ashkenazi Jewish ppl are also but not commonly referred to as “Germanic Jew” so I fully believe that they are parallel to Jewish ppl, not german ppl receiving Jewish treatment.

Reginald

there are two ways this could work, either Ymir obeys the ones with the highest percentage of her blood and that's how the royal bloodline kept itself "pure" if we do the math we can see how a royal bloodline could have been created to hold dominance over the others. Ymir had 3 daughters each carried 50% of her DNA, since they were females they couldn't have children with each other so they would have gotten Eldian partners bringing the percentage of Ymir's DNA in her grandchildren to 25% each, lets assume Sina's descendants are the royal family, they could have had one of Sina and one of Rose's kids marry and have children while all the others would have taken Eldian partners, that would mean that every great-grandchild of Ymir would have held 12.5% of her DNA except one who would have held 25%. everyone is a descendant of Ymir but some hold more DNA. the other way it could work is simply how Ymir perceive the royal family, we know that all the limitations on titan powers are due to Ymir and how she chooses to interact with the wielders she could have simply been following the title of royal bloodline without really caring about the amount of DNA

boba feat

a more accurate comparison would be that the premise of this world according to this episode is a "what if one of the German tribes got their hands on absolute power, defeated the roman empire and became the new dominant force of the continent" the fact the descendants of those "Germans" ended up getting the Jewish treatment of our world is just irony. as for Paradis and Marley being in south Africa that has more to do with the fact that AOT's world is a mirrored and reversed version of ours, they live in south Africa(actually north) not because of colonization but because that's where white people emerged. Now there was obviously colonization from both Eldia and Marley, but what they colonized was "Europe" and that's where black people lived. Its more obvious in the manga where we can see that not-London is a majority "black" country presumably being where Onyakopon's from.

Popping off, 2000 Years From Now 🫰🏻

Davide_Wernstrung

I think Paradis and Marley are a alternate version of history. Its based in south Africa and Madagascar, and judging by the existence of Onyankopon in the series, I am assuming this is some element of colonization of Africa. IM SPECULATING. Eldia is obviously Ashkenazi Jewish tho

Reginald

generally authoritarian conquerors. His model is roughly similar to Charlemagne making Eldia the Holy Roman Empire. So I have a question for you now. Is Paradis Isreal, England, America or somewhere else? Obviously its Madagascar in shape but I mean following the metaphor.

The ending theme to season 2 was released in the US on April 23, 2017. This episode was released on March 13 2022 in the US. This is god-tier foreshadowing and everything fit its place perfectly, 5 years in the making. Isayama is truly a storytelling genius.

Ceejay

Yall i have a question, who is king fritz supposed to resemble in real life?

Yeah my brother was actually theorizing that Eren is a slave to freedom (essentially his goals) after Kenny’s speech

Beautiful, I forgot about Beauty & the beast. Precisely like that except, like you said Fritz is a heinous deluded monster.

SPOILER WARNING SPOILER WARNING ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ it was about Ymir being a victim of Stockholm syndrome. Which I thought was fairly obvious but someone else told me how its a spoiler so i removed it(the comment)

Reginald

No not that.

Reginald

History being written by the victors in a way to destroy the ego of the oppressed with sentiment like “they are man eating monsters” that is so strong that the common people echo that sentiment daily to the oppressed. It can drive oppressed individuals crazy to a point where they retaliate with brutality and worse.

Reginald

They are so good bro, they catch everything

David Suarez

He waded through Ymir's memories with her looking for something to grasp onto to convince her to take his side. During the last parts of Ymir’s memories when King Fritz talks about how the power must rule "until the end of the world" and Eren wastes zero time with that abrupt "I’LL END IT”

Andrew Stuart

this is a spoiler free summary of this plot twist trifecta btw: https://youtu.be/R319_g4KAJ8 it has all the info up until 4x21, but i couldnt think of anything spoiled after 4x21. Let me know otherwise.

Cyber

I understand your explanation, I just think it's wrong. At the edge, you'll find countless cases where a person is 'of royal blood'... but their kids aren't. How does "this person is a descendant from Fritz but their child isn't" make sense? It's not comparable to a real life situation where social rules are created to make an arbitrary line of succession; it's strictly about blood. you either have royal blood or you don't, Ymir would either obey you or she wouldn't.

draeonic 🪼

you wanna know what's worse? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbfHY8mkhT8&ab_channel=CrunchyrollDubs if you watch at 1:00 in the end credits of season 2, you'll see the people walking around, like ants, like nomads... but pay attention: the way they are, look like a spine, the spine creature that gave the power to eldians to begin with. and 1:25. people worshiping ymir, she's actually curved aroudn like a tree trunk, the same tree that we see in this episode, the same tree that looks like the Paths/coordinate tree, and my bet? the same tree that eren loved to sleep under lol (ok this last one might be a stretch, but that would be hilarious by isayama, hilarious and sadistic)

Cyber

oh that opening slaps HARD

Cyber

you mean stockholm syndrome? Like beauty and the beast :P but this beast was an actual monster lol

Cyber

The Cart titan can be the motherly side of Ymir, the cart carries around people for months... like a mother who gestates her 3 daughters and carries them on her back to lead them to adulthood, which also shows up in pieck's carefree mommy vibe and watching over gaby etc and carying for her and trusting the people that she's along with, but also assertive to know when to call out gaby that "no baby girl, i dont trust marley or eldia, you have to know not to follow blindly other people just because of peer pressure."

Cyber

game of thrones theme music playing in the background

Cyber

i love that the sisters caught that in their discussion

Cyber

you mean why she checked out from the hotel Eldia reservations ? :D

Cyber

"history is written by the victors, and the oppressed/losers carry on their version of history so they never forget it " 2 sides to every coin and all that.

Cyber

agreeing with sean here. Ymir wanted to "give up" to "be free, finally"... and yet fritz cursed her for all eternity... she's been basically building bodies after bodies for titans with nothing but a pail and a bucket... every single hange and marley experiment, every single war for 2000 years, all the rumbling colossal titans, non stop, for all eternity, always a slave, never free, until eren promised her freedom.

Cyber

Can you imagine if eren's head didn't get cut off, how huge his titan would would have been while STANDING?

Cyber

What's also interesting is that he got those same flashes under the tree that he would always rest under, the tree he'd beat mikasa/armin to get there first, and he woke up crying after seeing those flashes... but now we are thinking : maybe this is the moment ymir "groomed him", where he woke up crying from seeing everything... and what we are watching right now, this very show, is what eren's seen in that dream that he woke up from at the LITERAL start of episode 1x1.

Cyber

i have actually said that same line before: Eren's a slave to himself, he's a slave to freedom.. and like kenny said: everyone's a slave to something, or else they wouldnt be where they are, trying to do what they need to do.

Cyber

Can we just appreciate that these girls are so amazing that they picked up on the titles of 4x21 and 1x1? I can say a lot of things here, but by the time they check thius it's going to be too late . All I can say is: how sad is it that the strongest person in the world, ymir, is a slave, and the one person who frees her, wants to free his friends, and seeks freedom the most in this world: is a slave to freedom, is a slave to his own future because he is following the memories he gave himself...Eren...he is a slave to himself, and is probably the ONE person that can never be free. He can only try to be "free"... like ymir was "free", in quotations.

Cyber

Something a lot of people miss from season one is when Erin is fighting Annie in the city and he is about to eat her, he starts screaming that he will destroy the whole world. At that point most people have no idea that this is where the story takes us lol.

Zachary Johnson

Its also a reference to Nidhogg from norse myth. the serpent/dragon at the base of yggdrasil that chews on its roots. it represents the loss of honor and villainy and devours corpses. Works well with Ymir(Ancestor of all Giants in Norse Myth)

D

The curse was brought into effect because Ymir died 13 years after she received the titan powers. The curse wasn’t automatically there since she received the powers. It only began after she died.

Sean Carroll

Hallucigenia is not the ancestor of all living creatures nor the catalyst for the cambrian explosion. It was a lobopod, I don't know if it's possible to say exactly what its living descendants are, but the only things alive today that descended from lobopods are arthropods (insect, arachnids, and crustaceans) and tardigrades. Tbf, arthropods account for a significant portion of animal life, but it would be remiss to say they definitively stem from hallucigenia.

Flubbedsquid

My reaction when Zeke looks up at Eren in the Paths after Grisha tells Zeke to stop him: “Eren’s…the villain?!”

Jake the Movie Geek

Hey that’s not bad ideas. I always took it as the Colossal Titan physically represents Ymir’s size. The Cart Titan’s special trait is that it can stay in Titan form for months at a time. Something the Founder Ymir could probably do. And the Female Titan is because Ymir is a girl.

Jake the Movie Geek

Let me try to explain better @draeonic.. lets say that our father the king had 10 kids, each of them had a family, 1 of them will inherit the throne, and that new King will make sure his child inherits the throne as well, and it will be like that for generations, out of the 10 initial brothers and sisters 1 single family will be considered the royal family... Eldia was known to conquer nations and Eldians/Subjects of Ymir were breeding their slaves to multiply the eldian population, u think all these people could inherit the throne as well just because they are partly subject of ymir? Even the bastards of the royal family would only get access to the throne if there are no other options. Dina was a descendant of the 1st family who inherited the throne thats all it was, it is more about if u are part of that family lineage or not. Our explanations is not enough for u, its simple just go search lineage three of the Spain royal family and u will see who can inherit the throne and who can't

Randy Flash

Fun fact, the thing that attaches itself to Ymir is based off of a real-world creature called Hallucigenia , which was a creature that lived MILLIONS of years ago. All creatures that exist today stem from this one creature. It was the catalyst for the Cambrian Explosion which was the largest growth period of Life ever in earth's history, hence why the creature is referred to by scientists as "The Orgin of Life"

Spinning Red Chair

Eren has aura

Francisco Yang

You guys were right on the money with the "Slave to Freedom" thing for Eren. We know that Eren manipulated the past, to entice Grisha to kill the royal bloodline, when Marley attacks to gauge the Kings Strength, there was no founder with which to defend Paradis with, which causes Eren's mom to be Eaten. Eren was fighting so hard to be free, but was a slave to HIMSELF the entire time.

Spinning Red Chair

If you go back and watch the first episode, the "flashes" that eren sees right before he wakes up, were events leading to this episode. We see the blood on the flowers after Hannes dies, we see the. We see petras death, we see Titan entering wall Rose, we see Tybur's kids toys, we see Historias Queen clothing. We see the Scouts that annie killed. The story was already told from Episode 1

Spinning Red Chair

I love how "The Rumbling" has almost childish connotations, like a rumbling stomach, but in reality the word "Rumbling" is a perfect description. Imagine the literal Earth shaking beneath your feet because something so massive is simply WALKING.

Spinning Red Chair

We don't have much information on Ymir's Titan, but using some perspective measurment's, determined that Ymir's founding titan was HUGE. Much taller than the colossal titan. Ymir's founding titan was as tall as the rod riess titan was long, probably more. She would have been about halfway up Eren's founding titan, and thats WITHOUT the imperfect elongated spine transformation.

Spinning Red Chair

The king who raised the wall on Paradis basically told the world, "Stay humbled or get rumbled." Marley sent one Colossal Titan to Paradis, and Eren is so generous he sends them millions.

The king's blood is what makes the most distinction. Their can only be so much heir to the throne. Eventhough he had many wife. Only a few branch in that family will have legitimate claim to the throne Also, there were 9 families supposedly with royal blood with their titans. That is a lot. Most of them killed each other before marley took over. Its not far off to still have royal blood line after 4 gen Dina and zeke looks more closely to the royalbloodline than reiss. Reiss'family was the only with mostly brunnette. Every other royals we saw were blonde.

baja

That's why SNK is so wonderful. It's all about humanity and why ther are doing this or that and you have always argument with that.

Friboulet Hermine

I think the 9 are her kids and grand daughter 3 daughters were all they could have by the time they died since they were little when she died

baja

About time passing. Years there =/= seconds here. There, in Coordinate, time doesn't exist in linear form. So everything happens at once. It's like living in a dream. In dreams time doesn't exist. You can be anywhere and anyone. If someone didn't use titan powers for 1 year, then for Ymir it wouldn't be 1 year, but 1 second. Also this worm had ability to do that too. It was him, who made Ymir's titan, so Ymir didn't have to make all these titans by herself.

Can you plz watch the intro now!?!?!?!!!

Btw in the beginning of the episode eren is peeking into grisha’s memories through the paths. He is connected to grisha in that moment, so future eren makes a connection with present (past) grisha where he sends grisha memories in those moments where you see grisha believe to see grown zeke and eren. The cool thing is eren is sending memories but, they are through his pov, so grisha is seeing himself through eren’s memories(eyes)

manne_36

Not many people know the terminology for what’s happening psychologically with her. She could’ve aquired the power, pulverized King Fritz and his heinous army. So why does she still obey his orders in the paths. Obviously we know at the end but you can still infer from this episode when they both learned her backstory and yet she was still a salve with her powers.

Gin-liberio

Dina was hardly a close family member of the royal family, but she retained the ability...

draeonic 🪼

I don't think you understood my question. How do you define who is or isn't part of the royal family?

draeonic 🪼

The founder ymir died when he chopped her up. Seems like she no longer wanted to feel used by king fritz,so she lay there in disobedience, and he said “bet”.

manne_36

Is that The Explanation or your opinion? And where's the cutoff? Zeke is at least four or five generations removed from Karl Fritz and his royal blood seems to be going strong.

draeonic 🪼

What?

Gabriel Mendez

To keep a significantly higher proportion of royal blood they would have had to rely on constant inbreeding and ended up like the Habsburgs

draeonic 🪼

*spoiler* It's basically revealed at the end of the series.

My favorite thing about this episode: you learn that, before the episode was out, before the manga reveal happened, SEASON 2'S ENDING CREDITS happened. If you watch it now, it's clear what is in that ending, but at the time? No one had a clue what it was. Sure, there were tons of theories, but I don't think anyone really got it right. Such a mad flex by Isayama to put such huge spoilers like that, out in the open, to see what would happen. Hard recommend to go back and rewatch that ending real quick. There are a lot of other things that you hear about as well (stuff from Marley and Grisha's flashback) so it's a good thing to check out now that you'd seen this episode.

Franky H

In my humble opinion, everyone in AoT is morally gray. There are a few who are extremists on either side, but they are extremists due to circumstance, I feel, or even to their own twisted viewpoint on this horrible reality. There is only one villain in my eyes, and it's the first King Fritz. And, in this entire story, the absolute worst victim is Ymir. One thing people never consider, is how long it takes her to build the titans. Remember: time BARELY passes in the outside world. If Eren and Zeke were there for years, and not even a second has passed outside, imagine how long it must feel for Ymir if 2000 whole years have passed OUTSIDE. And every time a titan transforms, she has to use a BUCKET OF WATER to HANDCRAFT it out of SAND. The most heartbreaking scene for me was when you see her walking all the way to one of the larger titans she was building, and then she trips and drops her bucket, spilling all her water, and has to go all the way back to (I assume the Coordinate) to get more! Yikes! And the idea that Ymir is a slave through and through, but still had hope of one day being free, which I feel manifested itself as the Attack Titan makes so much sense. Remember what Grisha said: "The Attack Titan has never bowed to anyone. And now I know why: to fight the King's self-righteousness!" It's crazy because they were referring to the peaceful King Fritz that lived a century ago, but it parallels to why the Attack Titan actually exists: to gain freedom from the original king. Anywho, yeah, this episode won Eren the best antagonist award in the Crunchyroll Awards when this season came out, and what's funny is he was also nominated for the best protagonist award too! Goes to show the craziness of his character, that he can just be the best at both in one fell swoop.

CrowsVA

AAAHHHHHHH!!!!! Isnt the rumbling CRAZY?!?!?! and the twist with eren betraying zeke, Ymir's backstory, so much happens so fast! and i agree! i totally expected that when we finally got to see Ymir's story that she was this badass titan warrior that freed her people but it turns out... she was used by the king as a titan slave. her story is insanely sad but it does perfectly set up WHY shes so eager to help eren and give him what he wants. hes the first person to ask her what SHE wanted. like Karissa said, she popped off XD i seriously cannot WAIT to see your reactions to the rest of the season! :D you guys are great.

Kaden Koennecke

I recommend reacting to the opening to this arch now!

Roy Saw

good point

Regie Khemvisay

u guys are phenomenal! i totally agree..we understand but we dont agree..but at the end of the day i have nothing to put in the table for what we should do to get our freedom or stop others from destroying us. ughh, u guys are amazing and so intellectual! love u guys!

Regie Khemvisay

It was something about ymir

Reginald

@draeonic Lol the explanation is simple it is just difficult to envision... the royal bloodline when we think of the first or 2nd generation might be everybody... but after a certain point one single family stays on the throne, all the cousins nephews nieces thru decades, centuries, milenials get far away from the throne as time past... so the gran gran gran granchild of the king's Brother will not be considered royal blood because they can't inherit the throne even if they wanted to... so it became a mix of bloodline and status, not just bloodline... thats why every subject of Ymir is not royal blood

Randy Flash

One of the three families could have remained "pure blood" or had a stronger percentage of the royal bloodline and kept it that way throughout time. The other two would have been a strong royal bloodline in the beginning, but overtime that royal percentage lessened to the point of being subservient to the other

Gear 5 Replicant

YEEEEES!

Meia-noite

You remember when eren fought against annie and said " I will destroy the whole world"? Crazy foreshadowing already in season 1

HailKingRagnar1

Along the line, all eldians are blood related that's why they can turn into titans but the royal family is the only one who can control the founding titan because of the dominance over Ymir.

Cody

I believe it's just the family line who held the founding titan, as in after a while the family gets a certain affinity with it. Or at some point someone with the founding titan locked up the abilities for only close family members.

chris

And now the question I've never seen a satisfying answer to: if the Subjects of Ymir, as seen in the Paths, are all descended from Ymir and Fritz... aren't they all, technically, from the royal bloodline???

draeonic 🪼

Well... your people can't get genocided, if there are no other people around to genocide them because they have been genocided. Makes total sense - and is entirely fucked up.

Why do you guys think Yimir, after she got the power of the Titans, still proceeded to obey King fritz? From my knowledge and understanding of why certain hostages get enamored with their captors, I think it’s a result of stockholm syndrome. It’s a psychological response wherein hostages sometimes develop a bond with their captors. I think it’s the brains way to protect itself, a way to compartmentalize and deal with the immediate situation in order to maintain equilibrium.

Gin-liberio

You guys should watch s2 ending/credits

Nil

For your discussion about the other Titans being parts of Ymir’s soul, I have a few ideas about a couple of the other ones besides the Attack Titan. The Jaw is Ymir’s self-sacrificing side, Marcel sacrificing himself for Reiner, Ymir giving herself up for Reiner and Berthold, Porco sacrificing himself for Reiner. The Armored Titan is Ymir’s protective side, for obvious metaphorical reasons but Reiner is a very protective person too. I’m not sure what the Colassal represents, but both Berthold and Armin are sort of more timid and conflict averse at their nature. Maybe the idea behind it is that much power needs to be handled by someone who doesn’t necessarily want to use it. Ymir’s responsible side maybe? The Beast Titan is Ymir’s inquisitive side. Ksaver and Zeke are both curious people and it’s represented by an animal because being something besides human represents the exploration of the unknown. The Founding is obviously Ymir’s will. The War Hammer…hmm Ymir’s creative side? Haha that’s all I got.

Rory Borcherding

Lol now I lowkey want to know what it was about 🤣🤣

Randy Flash

I love how Erens solution to genocide is a different genocide

Its ame mario

What Armin was talking about was the original plan to do a small scale rumbling (the walls around Shiganshina) to destroy the Allied Forces fleet assembling in Marley.

Jake the Movie Geek

I loved getting Ymir’s backstory because I always questioned who was right: Marley or the Eldian Restorationists?

Jake the Movie Geek

All Nine Titans represent part of the Founder Ymir. The Attack Titan’s trait is striving for freedom. Part of Ymir that she never used. Eren himself represents her freedom.

Jake the Movie Geek

Why did they say Ymir's spirit split into 9 titans? Btw I think it is a clever move by Isayama to not just explain everything like this part. When Ymir died, the King tried everything to keep her power alive, I am not sure why that was his 1st move but he forced his 3 daughters to eat their mother, (it worked because Ymir, now in the path, understands the king's wishes and made it happen). So at this point we had 3 titans (a founding titan and 2 others)... the passing of titans were relatively new, so we can assume that to keep it pushing 3 other people of Ymir's descent ate each of the daughters after they died... thats 9 total... they kept the founding titan one in the family that inherits the throne... what we can assume is that, during that 2nd generation whoever had that founding titan was recommended by their people to stop the act of blatant cannibalism and find another way to pass the titans, which was fairly easy since whoever had the founding titan could ask Ymir anything... But hear me out, at this point 9 titans was a lot, they could have still split them into more if they wanted to, but for a kingdom, too many of these titans would not be a good thing u know, jealousy and envy can turn the family against the throne and everything, so whoever had the founding titan at that time also made sure to keep it at 9, so people could pass each of them one at a time... and here we are Don't ask me how I know all that, u dnt know if I ain't a titan myself u dnt know about my life ok.😥😥

Randy Flash

this 3-episode run completely changed my perception of writing in fictional media. i always knew that attack on titan was incredible but this made me realise that it really is just on a whole other level. my mind cant even comprehend how a person is able to come up with a story like this. isayama is an actual genius

ningsplushie

1. That thing is called Hellucigenia, and it is a real creature. Don't do web search for now. If you must know, then this wiki page is clean https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallucigenia 2. Also, no person in that much old times lived separately and ate food from trees or online lol. Everyone was either part of a tribe or were under some ruler/king (so called Royals). People till this time follow monarchs that too in developed parts of the world. 3. Ymir's Titan was more than 200 metres tall. In Comparison, Colossals are just 60 metres. 200 metre when Ymir was small heighted.

PKS

Just two brothers fighting over which one their great great great great…. Great grandmother loves more

Erwin Smith

First episode of the show: "to you, 2000 years in the future", and this is "from you, 2000 years ago"

David Suarez

So, the worm thing is most likely based off a prehistoric creature called "hallucigenia sparsa". It lived during the Cambrian era hundreds of millions of years ago. That period is known in evolutionary biology for the "Cambrian explosion", which is the period where biological lifeforms first started evolving from single-celled organisms to more complex ones. It is considered a huge turning point in evolutionary history. I think that idea of life bursting out from that bottleneck combined with the cool/creepy look of hallucigenia is what inspired the creature you see in the show.

Alex Nelson

Not sure if you noticed so this show playes a lot about being free. There’s 3 pigs who get set free, if you look at the yeagers titans (Grisha, Eren, and Zeke) they are the only titans to have pointy ears like pigs ears.

Nathan Thomas

Calm down Harvey Dent

Reginald

I swear if Isayama thought of that too im losing it!

Ymir craved for someone to love her

Jake the Movie Geek

The eyes being gone is beautiful, she was a slave knew nothing but being a slave just blindly following. When she makes a choice to go against the royal blood her eyes are there.

I didnt think it was a spoiler to be honest. Cause it seemed obvious to me on my first watch but considering the events following i can see how its a MINOR(non -plot revealing) spoiler

well, in old old times, there was no free person as in who could live separately and order food online. Everybody worked for some tribe or under some king. And it was shown that she was looking at king kissing his actual wife.

PKS

Eren is free.

The fact that the founder ymir built everything titan power related by hand in the paths spending 2000 years just slaving away is just sad 😭💔

Also you guys rememebr grisha’s backstory when he said “marley lied to us, Ymir built roads, bridges, homes” Which is half true, marley didnt lie. Eldia stole countless upon countless lives with the help of founder ymir but founder ymir also built bridges and etc Basically marley’s version of events is not propaganda but it is self-centered.

Also i suspect this is why titans eat people, its because of the daughter eating Ymir.

Will you guys be doing a Friday episode???

Reginald

The tree Ymir walked into is modeled after Yggdrasil. In Norse mythology, that tree was the center of the universe, and the nine worlds revolved around it (kinda like....the nine Titans)
